They were prompt and the siding looked good when they were done. They just do siding. We had like an electrical thing for which we had somebody come back later and fix it. They just kind of put the siding back the way it was because they didn’t do siding. If you are looking for somebody to do more than siding like any electrical work, then you have to look around for somebody who did electrical as well. They did a good job with the siding. But we had an unusual circumstance. The price was okay.
Description of Work: Good News Home Improvement put some siding where we had some construction done and also did the trim around the beginning of the year. They took down some old siding and replaced them as well.

Dos: Give Good News Home Improvements a call for a bid Don'ts: Don't go with just one bid. Talk with several contractors and you'll make a more informed decision. I talked with about 5 and felt very confortable with my final decision to go with Good News Home Improvements.
Description of Work: My house was built in 1977 and still had the original single pane windows. I have known they should be replaced knowing they were not energy efficient but have been putting it off until my Mastiff went through one of them. So I began getting bids from window contractors and discovered great discrepancies in price, quality and lack of professionalism, until I contacted Good News Home Improvements. My phone call to them was returned the same day, from Ed Holliday, the owner and we made an appointment for the following day. Ed, was here right on time, brought samples to show me and explained everything about the windows. I was very impressed with his demonstration, knowledge of product and easy manner. I ordered 10 windows, which were installed on the date we agreed on. The two installers arrived on time and completed the job by the end of the day. It was obvious they were very knowledgeable and left with everything cleaned up and made sure I understood all the details about the windows. I LOVE my new windows and so happy I decided to hire Good News Home Improvements. I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them again. P.S. "Max" the mastiff is fine but is unable to break through my new windows.

This was a great experience. I made contact by e-mail and telephone. Everyone was friendly, helpful and understood my needs. Appointments and work were all set around my crazy, busy schedule. The salesman was very nice and loved his windows. He was not pushy in any way and he made the whole thing quite painless. He completely understood what I was asking for immediately and made it all happen. The price was exactly what was quoted to me. The workers were quiet (except for all that sawing) polite and did a great job! They vacuumed much more space then they were responsible for. These people work hard and earn their living.

We were very impressed with the salesperson's professionalism. He was extremely informative and did a great job of following up. We decided to go with a different window manufacturer which was the reason we did not choose this particular company, but, had we decided to go with the manufacturer they represented we would have definitely chosen GNHI.

I found them on Angie's list and saw the good reviews. Their cost was about $3,000 less than the Home Depot estimate with what, I am convinced, are better windows. The work was done in one day. They left the place clean. Workers were friendly and professional. I'd definitely use them again.

Good News Home Improvements - Windows Speed and efficiency. They came out the day we called and gave us an estimate. Then scheduled it for when we were available. They said it would take one day and it ended up taking two, which was a little inconvenient. Then they got the job done, and did a good job.

The job went well with one exception which I note below. When I first contacted their office I was greeted by a very courteous receptionist and I'll state for the record that every time I called the office the staff response was terrific. The salesperson came out to look at the job. He was young but very professional, didn’t waste my time or instantly try to sell me the most expensive product they had. At first I wasn’t interested in windows (the return on investment for double-paned windows is very long) but when I actually got the estimate I decided to do it since the price was FAR less than what I had been quoted by the local “big-box” store. After I signed up someone else came out to formally measure my windows before ordering the new windows. The siding I chose also had to be ordered and this whole process took a little over two weeks. The work was done by two crews, one for the windows and a different crew (later) for the siding. The window crew needs someone to be home since they need inside access. The siding crew doesn’t need inside access but I would recommend that the buyer be home during this time (if possible) since questions may arise and the crew will need answers. The siding crew took one and one-half days to complete the front-side job. Throughout the process the installers were polite and professional. They did a very good job of cleaning up after themselves. In the case of the windows and siding I was not required to make payment until the job was complete. This gave me a very good “comfort level” about the company. The window/siding jobs were paid for separately. The only problem that caused me some minor heartburn was a small but noticeable flaw I found in the siding that obviously occurred during the installation process. I ended playing “phone tag” with what turned out to be more than one person to get the problem resolved. I wish I had been assigned a single contact person for all phases of the job. In any event, the flaw was repaired and the final result was excellent. One other issue: The soffit vents also turned out to be bright white while the siding was a darker brown. This was not a color combination I wanted or expected but the siding manufacturer apparently does not offer color-matched vents. I’m sure that for many people this will be a non-issue. All in all my experience with Good News was very positive and I don’t hesitate to give them a good recommendation. I would absolutely do business with them again.
Description of Work: Good News installed two double-paned windows, one oversized for the livng room and one more or less standard size for the kitchen. I also had vinyl siding installed on the front of the house, replacing very old wood composite siding.

They were very good. What they did is very good. They also ran into a problem that was done by a construction company, so there were a couple of things they couldn’t finish because there might be some quoting things and inspection things. They were very honest about that. The employees that did the siding were friendly and seemed quite knowledgeable.

They did everything in one day so they met their estimate of one day. They were very, very careful about taping off the house so I wouldn't get a lot of dust all over my things. There were two young guys and they were very personable and knew exactly what they were doing; they had been down this road before. The labor and all of that was top of the line. I know I could have gotten this done cheaper but another company that I had talked to about the specific product I wanted recommended them.

I had called Good News Home Improvements because I needed a quote for my large sliding glass patio door. I needed it to use as a comparable, and I needed to get back to the other guys by the end of the business day. A GNHI installation specialist called me within an hour of my initial call and I explained the situation to him. Chris listened to my somewhat frazzled explanation and was able to tell me, based off of the measurements the other contractor had given me, about how much the door would cost. The price was less than half the other guys, and we scheduled an appointment for him to come to our house on the following Monday. On March 7, the day of the appointment, Chris called to verify directions to the house (GPS system was down) and to tell us he'd be about fifteen minutes late. When he arrived, he was amiable toward our cat (who actually was quite rude to him) and our baby (3 months old). His estimate and product description were clear and concise, his manner friendly and professional. He also was open to discussing our desire to use our tax refund to pay for the project and offered options for us to do so. The whole appointment process only took 2 hours, as opposed to other estimates we had gotten which lasted late into the night and past my bedtime. Ed, the owner, was able to work with us to get the tax return situation settled, much to the appreciation of myself and my husband, even working out a scenario where the door would be installed and we would pay as soon as our refund was deposited into our account. Fortunately, the deposit came in time for the install appointment on March 30. Zack and Brian arrived right on time the morning of the install, and were professional and friendly. They helped keep an eye on my indoor-only cat to make sure she didn't escape while there was a gaping hole in my wall where the sliding door usually would be. They also entertained my curious questions about how the old door was coming out and how the new one was going in. Brian and I actually had much in common as he had a baby just two months older than my own. The young men were very clean and worked very efficiently! They were in and out of my house within three hours, and I was enjoying my new beautiful door before they'd even completed the install. As they were putting the finishing touches on the door and windexing it, they showed me that the manufacturer had applied the Low E to the wrong side of the glass in the door panel, so they contacted Amerimax to come replace it. Amerimax was in touch with me within two days, so I know GNHI contacted them really quickly. They're a bunch of great people, and they are more than welcome to come back to my house anytime. Even if they're here just for a BBQ rather to do any home improvement projects!

Called 2 places for an estimate. They were right on time and very friendly, professional, informative and not hard sell. The estimate was ~ $100 more than the other estimate for a similar product but they could install them in 3 weeks and it would've been 2 months before the other company could install. They gave an estimated date, called to schedule once product arrived, and arrived and installed the windows and door without problems. Excellent service and value! They even dropped off a little Christmas gift afterward :o)

I didn?t like anything about them. They affected the width of the viewing space in our kitchen. We had a bay window in our kitchen. They didn?t tell us that it would affect our viewing space. We found out, after they installed the windows in the front that they were defective. They went ahead and installed them and then told us about them. When I called up to get a rebate they told me they would give me a hundred dollars. They never have done it. I told them that $100 was an insult, so he said they wouldn?t give it to me. The owner always profounds how religious he is and that God will take care of him. I would not recommend them at all. They went ahead and took out the sliding glass windows in the master bedroom. There were some holes in the Sheetrock. They were going to go ahead and put the new windows in over that without plastering up. I stopped them and he said that he guessed he would do it if I wanted him to. The attitude that they thought It was a favor instead of the quality workmanship, I didn?t like.

Response from Good News Home Improvements
Good News Home Improvements makes every effort to see that our customers receive the highest quality service and products. We are saddened to hear that our customer was not 100% satisfied with us. We would like to take this opportunity to address the issues that were mentioned in our report as an explanation of the events to our customer and as a testament to our professionalism for Angieslist.com members that are interested in our services. Customer: “We had a bay window in our kitchen. They didn’t tell us that it would affect our viewing space. We found out, after they installed the windows in the front that they were defective. They went ahead and installed them and then told us about them.” GNHI response: “Ed, the owner, was the salesperson and showed the customers an actual sample window in the living room and pointed out all of the features. It was not a bay window that was being installed; rather, it was three separate windows replaced size for size. The window frame width was not brought up as an issue at time of purchase. When it was pointed out after installation, Ed explained that the difference is consistent with current vinyl frame styles and is indeed, wider than what previously existed in the home. While installing the windows, the crew found a very minor blemish in the vinyl of two of the windows. We, as a company, were the ones who noticed the blemish and we took initiative not to ignore this, but to rectify it and we pointed out the blemish to the customer. In consideration of the customer, GNHI decided that it was best to install the windows with the minor blemish to avoid leaving the customer with boarded up windows on the front of his home. GNHI contacted the manufacturer and arranged an appointment for them to meet the customer at their home to repair the blemish in the frame.” Customer: “When I called up to get a rebate they told me they would give me a hundred dollars. They never have done it.” GNHI response: “The responsibility of this kind of blemish lies with the manufacturer, so we arranged for them to come and repair the frames. Upon the first appointment with the manufacturer, the customer was not home. When the manufacturer arrived for the second appointment, the manufacturer informed us that the customer did not allow them to make the repair. The manufacturer had already tried twice to repair the minor blemish and incurred the expense of remaking the windows and sending his contractor out to make the repair. At this point, a three-way call was made to include us, the customer and the manufacturer to remedy the situation. The customer expressed interest in money in lieu of new windows. He agreed to the sum of $100 to be paid by the manufacturer. The customer did not notify the manufacturer that he did not receive the check. After reading our report on Angieslist.com, we contacted the manufacturer and they have since sent the check.” Customer: “There were some holes in the Sheetrock. They were going to go ahead and put the new windows in over that without plastering up.” GNHI response: “The GNHI crew leader explained to the customer that our Patio Door will cover the small chips occurred in the sheetrock. The customer insisted that the crew fill in the chips and the crew leader agreed to cover them before they installed the new Patio Door.”

It turned out great. I loved their work. I have recommended them to other people. I have absolutely no complaints. They did it fast. It was clean. It was exactly what I asked for. It was a good price. I thought I got a good value. I had an alarm system on my windows and I had heard horror stories of window companies cutting these. When they put the alarm wires back they went the extra step and hid the wires. They not only left the wires where it supposed to be they hid the wires so it look s better than it did before.

Ed's crew worked h****** our home removing the old siding and replacing it with new Certainteed fiber cement. They also placed a green guard raindrop vapor barrier and the trim was replaced with Miratex Composite Trim. We should not have to worry about replacing any of this for years to come (if at all). It took them a total of four days to complete this job. At the end of the workdays, the crew was diligent about cleaning up their work site before leaving for the day. They were very professional and took the time to explain the work details and how much time it entailed. If we had any questions, we would call Ed and he was always available to take our calls and answer any questions we had. He followed up on the work and made sure we were happy with everything.

I received 4 estimated from various companies. Good News spent the most time explaining the various details that you would need to look at when shopping for new windows. After spending about 2 hours with me Ed showed me homes in my neighborhood that he had completed work on. He didn't just show me larger homes but homes that resemble my more modest sized house. He quoted me a good price and waited patiently while I got my other estimates. I also had him give me a quote on siding as I was also considering that possibility. After having chosen Good News everything went beautifully. The windows crew showed up punctually and worked efficiently. I have 11 windows, mostly large sizes and the job was done in one day with everything going smoothly. The crew was a great group of guys and it was very comfortable having them in my home and trusting them not to let the dogs out. Can't say enough nice things about the three of them! They were really hard workers that didn't waste any time but still managed to be helpful and congenial.

Please let me know if you decide to get some siding done on the back of the house. I think I remember you were possibly going to do that at a later date. Siding cost has actually come down a bit due to the slower economy. Stay warm and comfortable! Sincerely grateful, Ed
