A month after picking up my chair and material, I called him to find out the status. He did not return my call. I continued to call him for several months without receiving one return call from him. Finally, after months of calls to him, I left him a phone message stating I would be contacting the Sheriff to report he had stolen my chair and fabric if he didn't return them ASAP. Low and behold, a day or so later he returned the chair and tried to convince me it had been "professionally" upholstered. ABSOLUTELY NOT. That's why I'm rating this company "F" for quality. It wasn't quality workmanship. He had told me upon his first visit that he "trained" students how to upholster furniture. I told him it was OK with me if a seasoned apprentice did some or all of the work as long as he personally oversaw their work and corrected any errors before returning to me. Almost 5 months later upon Mr Coleman's return of the chair I pointed out a number of areas that were done very sloppily! I told him it looked like the chair had been "upholstered" by an inexperienced "do it yourselfer". I also asked him what had taken him longer than 4 months to do the work to which he told me a family member had passed away in the Bay Area and he had been there settling the estate. Mr Coleman took the chair again along with my fabric for another month before returning it to me. Upon inspection, Coleman's Upholstery did do a good job, finally. Now that I'm a member of Angie's List, I am looking for an upholsterer with a good number of "A" ratings. In doing so, I came across other reviews for COLEMAN'S UPHOLSTERY wherein they suffered similar poor experiences to mine. I had to write this review. Although Coleman's Upholstery performed the work for me a few years ago, it is apparent this business continues to perform at an unacceptable level. Specifically, this business takes your furniture (and fabric, trim if you provide) keeping it for an indefinite and unreasonable period of time, does not respond to customer calls, does not keep the customer informed of status of completion and delivery, appears to have non-professional, unlicensed individuals perform upholstery work, does not ensure the work they do is performed in a professional manner and then tries to get paid for the poor workmanship! BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT BOTHER TO USE THIS BUSINESS. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER PROFESSIONAL UPHOLSTERERS IN THE LARGER SACRAMENTO REGION WHO MEET THEIR PROMISED DUE DATES AND DO EXCELLENT WORK. SAVE YOURSELF SOME GRIEF, USE ONE OF THEM.
Description of Work: COLEMAN'S UPHOLSTERY picked up an antique Victorian chair along with fabric and trim material I provided to re-upholder it. He told me it would be returned in about 3 weeks.

This man has a history of taking payment for fabric removing furniture from home and you never hear from him again. The only positive comments seem to be from cushions and stools, basically furniture with little resale value. I encourage anyone who has had this type of negative experience with this man to follow up on this with whatever means you have. He has been doing this for several years and needs to be stopped. Right now he has my chair and 500.00 dollars. I have not heard from him for 3 weeks and his voice mail is full. Also under his Angies List profile his name is no longer there as contact person. I unfortunately took the recommendations of 2 fabric shops who gave glowing recommendations. First and last time I don't check Angies list first.
Description of Work: Took partial payment and my chair. I have not heard from him for three weeks.

He came out and did an estimate, and gave me a price. He said he needed a down payment of $488.00 before he could start. I paid him and he has not responded back since.

They picked up the chairs on July 24 and he returned them on November 9th or 10. The workmanship was terrible. The stuffing was falling out of the cushions, there were exposed raw seems, stitches had ripped apart. I asked if he could fix this problems and he stated he would have to take all the work apart.
Description of Work: I had them upholster two chairs. I paid $525 per chair.
