+ -1 moreWork was fine. After care was far from impressive. We paid $2480 to have trees trimmed on a slope yesterday. In the process Travers accidentally broke off a sprinkler riser at its base, cracking the riser leaving a portion in the pipe such that it cannot be capped and leaving the system down until we can get a repair person. We bought the replacement parts today but I explained to Travers that my partner cannot climb the slope to repair it as he has MS. Curt E mail reply from Travers “We are not responsible...check page 3 of our terms and conditions”. Unimpressed to say the least.

+ -1 moreThe price was very competitive and the work performed was well done. The only problem was scheduling. The estimate they sent said that after we agreed to their price and returned the signed agreement, the work would be scheduled within 15-25 working days. After about 2 weeks, we emailed them asking when we were scheduled and got no response. We then waited almost the whole 25 days and called them. We were not on their schedule. After a couple days they got back to us and said they didn't know why we were not on the schedule but they came out the next day and performed part 1 of the job.

Description of Work: Our neighbors Yucca plant was overhanging our property and occasionally dropping huge branches into our yard. The trimmers trimmed the yucca, but Travers did not feel it was enough so sent them back to trim more. There is no overhanging and it looks infinitely better.

+ -1 moreI have my trees trimmed every two years. In the last five years, I have used Travers twice. When I contacted them this year, they promptly sent out a representative with whom I discussed what needed to be done. As is their procedure, I was to receive a written proposal to sign and send back to them before work would begin. I did not receive the proposal, nor a call to explain the delay. I called their office and was told that someone was on vacation and they were backed up. I was assured that a proposal would be forthcoming. To this day, I have never heard from them. Is this any way to run a business? What happened to courtesy to your customer?
Description of Work: The last time I engaged them, they trimmed 3 trees and ground out a stump.

+ 0 moreI received several bids to remove overgrowth and bushes on a small slope (9'x45') in the backyard and most importantly remove a carpet of English Ivy that was invading everything. The crew arrived as scheduled although only the forman spoke english. The forman was bouncing between several jobs and was often not at our job. The owner, Richard Travers, who provided the bid, was never seen again except to pick up the check. After two days the job was finished. I watched them roll the ivy like a rug, leaving the roots below the soil. I was unable to question the crew and when I talked to the forman he assured me the roots were gone. (They were not) Ivy grew back and I have been pulling roots ever since. No recourse with Travers except to comment on the web. Don't trust them, don't use them. They are terrible.
Description of Work: Contracted to remove overgrowth on a 9'x45' slope in the back yard. Included larg bushes and English Ivy. Bid was to take it down to bare dirt including roots. UPDATED 8/17/2012: "Ivy removal was quoted and completed. He was not happy that some of the Ivy started to re-grow." - A significant amount of ivy returned from roots that were not removed per the contract. "He was quoted a price for chemical application to the soil, to prevent Ivy re-growth, but he declined this service." - This was a quote after the fact when ivy regrew and at a considerable additional cost in excess of $200. "He neglected to say in his report that Travers Tree Service filed a small claims court case to get paid for our original work that was completed. The judge listened to both sides of the case, saw pictures of before and after the job was completed. On October 1, 2008 the small claims court awarded Travers Tree Service $535.00 for the work completed. The Southwest District (19486) Redondo Beach Courthouse case number is SBA 08S01973. Anyone who wants to verify the FACTS of the case can contact the South Bay Municipal Court." - This is absolutely true. Richard Travers and his foreman arrived and created a unified fictitious story that convinced the judge the work was complete. Wish he had stated then that "the ivy started to re-grow" and "quoted a price for chemical application to the soil, to prevent ivy re-growth." "He was attempting to force Travers to do more than what was quoted." - See comments above. "Re-growth" of the ivy. All we wanted was a complete project. Beware if you hire Travers Tree Service.

Also attached five photos of the tree. Requested that someone confirm receipt of my e-mail so I could be sure it had gone through. Unsigned e-mail received from tts@traverstree.com same day, Monday, 6/11, at 11:42 a.m. stating: and quot;I will print this memo and put it on the Arborist desk for his review. Thank you.and quot; I replied to that e-mail on Wednesday, 6/13, at 1:17 p.m. asking when I could expect a response or call back from the arborist. I informed them at that time that our condo complex was going to be painted fairly soon and I needed to have this project completed prior to that. I ended that e-mail with the following: and quot;If this job is too small, or if you're too busy, can you plse. let me know so that I can be contacting other tree services.and quot; It is now Thursday, 6/14, at 4:40, and there has been no contact from Travers. I've gone ahead and hired a different (extremely responsive) company.

+ -1 moreThey are professional and their work is excellent. They do not 'cut' trees, nor butcher them. They trim them and thin them so that they look really beautiful. If you give them specific directions, they follow them exactly. They show up on time, are courteous and they clean up completely.

+ -1 moreWe got a quote from arborist, Don Lorenzen on 02/24/12. I called and left a voicemail to call me back so that I could add some more work to the estimate. First time, no response. I called again the following week and spoke to someone in the office. She said she would give the message to him to call me back. Second time, no response. Emailed on 03/06/12, breaking out the additions wanted to the estimate. Third time, no response. My husband called them, spoke to someone in the office and set up an appointment with him. Fourth time, he didn't show up and he didn't even call to cancel. Worst customer service ever. We will never use again and will tell friends and family to discontinue using.
Description of Work: No service was performed because we could never get them to add more work to be done on the estimate.

+ 0 moreQuite well - they came for the estimate, we added on a couple of items, and they got it. Before sending their estimator to the house, I took photos and sent it to their Contact link, they said this helped alot. They came on time for the estimate, and did the work on time and right on the budget, even though they were quite overloaded with work from recent windstorms in the area. During the cleanup it was very very noisy, so it's good that they did this during a weekday morning. Communication was OK. Many workers spoke no English, however the supervisor had no trouble communicating with thtem and with us, so all of our requests were communicated to them, and their comments/concerns/feedback were communicated to us. Note that my parents have been using Travers since the 1980s, and they've always been good, on-time, no problems. Work was performed in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

However, once I was given a date they would be on site to do the work, they arrived exactly on time, and were very professional, courteous, and efficient. They guys knew what they were doing. I think the price was in line with the excellent work performed. I wouldn't hesitate to call them again.

They were not able to let me know when the job would be performed until two days prior and it took multiple follow up calls on my part to get the job on their schedule.
Description of Work: Trimmed one big tree, trimmed and skinned 5 palm trees and trimmed one smaller tree. All debris was hauyled away.

+ -1 moreIf you're in a big rush, this might not be the company for you, because they're extremely popular and it took me a couple of weeks to "get on the board." However, they arrived when they promised, did all the work (while I was at work) and cleaned every leaf off the lawn. It was like some very strong elves had appeared and then vanished. I have to admit I was a little shocked when I came home to find that the tree hadn't just been topped but thoroughly pruned;, this will result in a temporary loss of privacy between my back neighbors and myself until everything grows back. However, in retrospect, I realized that the tree is going to be much healthier now that it's been shaped instead of just topped off. These folks really know their trees, and that's why they're the tree service of choice around here.
Description of Work: I requested them to top about ten feet off a gigantic rubber tree and to cut two overgrown bottlebrush bushes down to wall level

+ -1 moreTravers removed three palm trees, each about 65 feet tall, from my front yard. They had the right equipment (a cherry-picker, a crane and a large truck for hauling). They took each tree down in sections, after securing the upper section with heavy ropes; the crane picked up each piece and put it in the third truck, where a worker sawed it in pieces. In just under two hours they took three very large palm trees down to about a two-foot stump. They told me that another crew would be coming to grind the stump a few days later. The stump-grinding crew ground the stump and root ball to 18"-24" below grade to allow re-planting in the same site. They left a neat pile of chippings, which a third crew arrived to shovel into a truck and remove. Each crew was very competent and efficient and cleaned up after themselves very well. I recommend Travers highly and I would certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Removal of three 65-foot tall palm trees from my front yard, grinding the stump to allow re-planting, and hauling away the remains of the trees. I was somewhat worried about the job because the trees were so large, and I could imagine a chunk of one of them landing on my roof (or worse, my neighbor's). I obtained bids from several other tree services. Travers had their own employees, was licensed and provided proof of workers' comp insurance and liability policy, before I asked. The landscape designer I had hired also recommended them.

+ -1 moreTravers does a great job. Efficient, polite workers. They clean up everything afterwards. My only complaint is that the company has so much work that it takes almost a month from when you first call them until they come do the work. But they're worth the wait.
Description of Work: They trimmed a large eucalyptus tree in my yard. They have trimmed this tree for me every year for the last 8 years or so. They have also trimmed some of my other trees in the past.
