.Daniel - the landscape architect - showed up on time and spent a lot of time listening to our dreams for renovating our front yard. Daniel was never pushy about his ideas and, in fact, came up with several good alternatives. He made two subsequent visits back to our home to go over the plans he had drawn up. They were beautifully done and very clear.

I would not recommend them, please do your homework if you plan on using this firm. Make them draw details and sections on the plan's so they don't come back with additional cost after signing the contract. Unprofessional to ask for changes after the contract is signed for errors made by them. I had them revised there own estimate multiple time because the numbers would not total up. No intern quality control systems in place. Very disappointed with the firm and how they handle there business.
Description of Work: I've been working with them for several months on the design and cost. We got the design and price worked out after several month and signed the contract. Few days after signing the contract they came back with additional cost and things they missed in the contract. I am a general contractor and can read contracts and blueprints, been doing this for 20 years. I asked them review the items again and added additional language "stand of care". They informed me they were not going to move forward with the changes. Total waste of four months dealing with this company.

My contact was Myriah Hoover. She was friendly, professional, and knowledgable. She worked with me on multiple iterations of my requirements documents and even made a nice modification of my landscape architecture drawing to lower the cost of the hardscape. I had started this project by soliciting bids from 6 different contractors that I had chosen from Angie's List. It didn't take long to eliminate all but two: Lavish Gardens and WinSol Groundworks. Both had great reputations and loads of A reviews here on Angie's List. I ended up choosing WinSol but I want to note that Myriah and Lavish Gardens were very professional and they submitted very competitive bids.

It was a process but it went really well. It started with our designer Myriah meeting with us a couple times to discuss what we were looking for and to understand our style. She completed a full set of plans and went over them with us in detail to make sure the plan was acceptable and to our liking. She also helped getting through the city planning committee for approval. When it came time for the work our foreman Steve and his team took over for the actual work on the yard. They had a lot to do and got the yard cleaned down to dirt very quickly. Steve worked with us to keep the concept of the plans and work with the available plants to make it happen. He worked well with our ideas, changes, and is genuinely concerned that we love the work and it is also functional. With things like this project you have to be prepared for changes and decisions for the entire process. Things happen, always. Steve and his entire team were fantastic to work with and made the decisions easy and were always available for us if needed. When they were working they were very focused, and when they left the site for the day always cleaned up the space. The yard came out amazing and we love our "new" house now that you can see it again. I would recommend them to anyone, and I will use them again for the back yard renovation.
Description of Work: They planned an entire new front yard landscape for our home including drainage diagnosis and correction, elevation changes, plants and lighting.

I used a landscape architect for the initial consultation from Lavish Gardens and we worked up the initial plans. That was extremely helpful. There was some wait time before my job was in the que but once we started all went smoothly. And again, the workers were great. Changes were accommodated without issue and my questions were answered in a timely manner.
Description of Work: I redid my back yard with the help of Mike and Lavish Gardens. I LOVE IT! The job was done in 2 sessions and the continuity was excellent. The workers were great and deserve a lot of credit . When I do my front yard I will be calling Mike! The back yard was all slopping hillside with old retaining walls and very little personality. I now have different elevations of usable space, an extra patio up the hill, and a small but perfect size lawn area. Everything is on drip now and the sprinkler system is set for the lawn area.
I started the planning phase of my backyard with Jerry, the designer for Lavish Gardens Landscape. I met with Jerry about once a week trying to give him my vision. After a few weeks, Jerry came to me with blueprints and they were great. He knew what I wanted. I had to then present all the plans to my HOA for approval. Jerry's plans were perfect and approval was immediate. The second phase was when Derek and his crew came to bring the plans to fruition. Derek is amazing!!! He can do anything and he performed magic. Derek was great to work with, he would come to me before doing something on the project to make sure that it was what I wanted. If I saw something that was not quite right, Derek took care of it. I am so glad that he headed up the crew. He had a young man, Rusty, working with him and Rusty was a hard worker, eager to learn and do what ever was asked of him. Derek had crews in removing concrete around my pool, digging up tree roots, removing grass and decks. Everything was taken away and cleaned up perfectly. Once everything was taken away, a new crew came in to put down the new colored, stamped concrete. It looks great. I have stamped concrete around the pool, where the decks were and where the grass was. It is now a very large open cohesive space. New plants were brought in and new drip irrigation was added. Then the new low voltage lights were added around the yard. I do not look out into darkness any longer. I look out into a beautiful lighted yard highlighting trees, plantings and other things that I have placed out for interest. Derek and Rusty built a new very large raised bed that I have some vegetables and herbs in now. I also had to have a new walkway along the side of my home done at the same time. The old walk was broken, uneven and dangerous. The new walkway is wonderful. I can now go out my kitchen door to my backyard or towards my front gate and feel safe. I also wanted it safe for a family member to be able to come into my back yard in her wheel chair. Derek and his crew did a wonderful job! Derek also had to put in conduit for electric lines and a natural gas line in the right spot for a large gas grill/refrigerator set up that I had purchased. I can now have pool parties and cookouts and be so proud of my back yard. A big thank you to Derek, Jerry, and Lavish Gardens for a wonderful job. I am so proud to show off my backyard.
Description of Work: My backyard was totally renovated from an unattractive yard to a beautiful area to enjoy by myself or with company. I had decks that were old and unsafe. I had a grass area that needed water and had to be mowed but it was never used. The yard had no lighting other than the light in the pool. Lavish Gardens Landscape transformed my yard beautifully!

We were disappointed we could not afford to go with Lavish Gardens for the actual work but the design was great. We were pleased with the designer, Daniel.
Description of Work: We used Lavish Gardens design services. We had them bid the job itself but they were way over our budget. Unfortunately we would have to make major changes to the design to go with Lavish Gardens. We had Daniel come out to give us the designs and he was very easy to work with on this project. We met several times and changed and adapted the designs for the front yard. We were pleased with the end result. If the bid for the actually work had been more in our price range we would have used them to do the work too but it was too difficult to shave $30K off the price without changing the entire look. This company is definitely the "high end" category and for those who can afford it, it would be great, I'm sure.

I had a great experience working with the designer. He was professional and knowledgeable. We had multiple conversations/emails until the design was complete. Each contact was a pleasure. Having no clue how much my landscape dream would cost, I was shocked at the price first quoted. But Michael Cole and the designer went back to the drawing board and came up with a more affordable design that remained true to my vision. From there, it took a little while for the landscape and concrete work to be completed, but Steve and his crew were great. Steve kept me informed on the progress, when the work would be done, etc. I LOVE my new front yard and all my neighbors do too! :-) I do think, however, that clients should get the cost of the design credited to the landscape project. But I really can't complain because Mike and Steve did work with me on the cost and late changes to the design. I highly recommend Lavish Gardens.

This experience was good from start to finish. Lavish Gardens owner, Michael Cole, is very professional yet personable and easy to work with. His designer came up with a beautiful plan and researched all the plants to make sure none were toxic to my pets. Once the work started I changed my mind about some of the plants (before they had been purchased) and Steve - the job foreman - was genius at interpreting what I thought I wanted and again making sure they weren't toxic to kids or animals! Steve made sure to let me know when the workers would be arriving and what they would be doing each day. I felt very comfortable with every member of the Lavish Gardens team and love my new back yard!
Description of Work: Designed landscape for back yard around swimming pool, saw cut and removal of some existing concrete, power washed existing concrete, installed drainage, installed custom irrigation system including hook up to timer in garage, installed topsoil, selected and planted 74 plants, finish grading and installation of bark, moved existing boulders throughout back yard, installed smooth cobble for drainage area, installed lighting system which included: ten fixtures placed throughout new landscape, wiring to each fixture and transformer, and programmable timer mounted at existing 110volt power source, cleaned up and removed all debris. Also, sod installation in front yard.
We started with a professional landscape design with combined input from us and the designer. Once the design was agreed upon the demo of the grass front yard and the demo of the back yard between the house and the pool was started and finished in two days The entire project from start of landscaping to finish took about fifteen days. This included forming and pouring of all new concrete walkways, new planters in the backyard, and new planter soil as needed. We could not be more pleased with the finished product and would recommend this company to anyone. It not only looks great but is using MUCH less water with the new drip watering system.

Mariah, the landscape designer, was very personable and had many great ideas. She drew a detailed layout for a flower garden, paths a trellis area with a hammock and possibility for a fountain. The first presentation was with non-drought resistant plants then another with drought resistant or mediterranean style plants. Both were lovely and well thought out. In the end, the cost for implementing all the plans and prepping the land was $35,000. She also priced it approximately for doing it in steps. In the end, it was a little too pricey and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but I got some great ideas to get started.

An appointment was made and kept by Lavish Designs. We explained what we wanted. The nice gentleman gave us a nice brochure package and left with us with the understanding that NO bid would be provided unless we wanted to pay $500 for a Lavish Design. Why would we pay for a design when we had no idea how expensive or reasonable this company's prices were? They seemed reputable, but that's where things were left. Pay a design fee or else. We chose "or else."

Hello [Member Name Removed], I believe there is some confusion. I checked our estimate logs and you were sent (2) estimates from us. You were sent an original on 09-16-2014 and then a revision 09-29-15. I would be more than happy to have my office staff resend those to you? I assume you confused us with another company? We never give clients an ultimatum like that. My staff will weigh out the options with you and you will always have the final say whether you believe a construction estimate is best to start with or a professional landscape design. Please feel free to call me with any further questions or again if you would like those estimates resent to you..

Hello [Member Name Removed], I want to apologize for any trouble that was caused. We received an email from you on 03-18-2015. We left you voicemail the same day according to my logs. You then returned our call a few days later on 03-23-15 and an appointment was set for 04-04-2015. Our trained system in place is that our salespeople are to call the day before to verify initial consultation appointments. This did not happen and I greatly apologize for this, I understand how this has inconvenienced you. However, according to our log and discussing with the salesperson, he did try to verify the appointment the morning of the appointment and you both missed each other. You had stated that you could not meet with him later that morning and you would find someone else. I truly am sorry for the inconvenience and frustration. The salesperson has been talked to in length about following our systems in place every time. As I am sure you have seen this is not a normal occurrence and it will be discussed again in our weekly staff meeting this week.

Hello [Member Name Removed], Thank you so much for the review! As the owner of Lavish Gardens Landscape, I take all reviews very seriously and review with our team in our weekly meetings. It really helps us to grow and make better choices to serve our clients wishes. I will be very happy to share your review. Thank you again for your business, It is very much appreciated and vital to our growth and success! I hope you enjoy your yard for years to come.
They were fantastic! They were very nice to work with, very helpful and knowledgeable and best of all very communicative. They were willing to communicate by text (my preferred way of contact) and were very fast to respond to any questions we had. Our yard was a mess of weeds and hedges and a broken retaining wall, and now it is absolutely beautiful and better than I could have hoped for. They started out by designing plans for the new yard, we had several meetings to talk about ideas and make sure everything was all planned out just how we wanted it. They were very good at finding plants and layouts that matched our (somewhat vague) requests, they really understood what we wanted and how to make that happen. They even managed to transplant two citrus tree we needed moved very successfully. The retaining wall they build turned out beautiful, it was built from large moss rock stones stacked and fitted together. They built a dry "riverbed" with river rocks which they dug in very deeply which gives it great dimension and looks awesome. All in all, it was a great experience and very fun to see it go from drawing to reality. They were so nice and communicated with us about everything that was happening every step of the way.We will definitely be having them come back next year to redo the backyard now too! I can't wait!
Description of Work: Landscaped the front yard with rock features and rock wall retaining wall, trees, drought tolerant plants, lights, flagstone pathways, drainage, drip system, new cement sidewalk.

Hi, Thank you for the review. I love the transformation your yard has taken. I drove by recently and it looks so great! It was nice doing a job 3 minutes from my house as well! You were amazing and fun to work with. Steve and the guys were just talking about that. Than you again for your business! We look forward to working with you again on the backyard.
We worked with Myriah to begin with on the design, plant list, placement of different items, timeline and cost. Myriah was very patient with us and redid the design three different times to get things where we wanted and what we wanted. They worked on cutting the cost as much as possible, yet still getting what we wanted, e.g., I built the retaining wall and removed the concrete mow strip. After getting the cost and design as close to an end product as we wanted, we had a walk-through with Myriah and Derek, the crew foreman. I had to be out-of-town the two days that most of the work was done. A little scary, but was pleasantly surprised with the results when I returned. Over the next week, Derek and his crew fine tuned some things to our liking. He did not stop until we were satisfied. Both Myriah and Derek told us to call at any time if we had any questions or any issues with plants, etc. The reason for the price rating of a B is it was initially more than we had planned, but we do feel the end result was worth it. The reason for the quality rating of a B is I'm an engineer and am very picky. I do think the end product will look like we expected once the plants come in. We've had many compliments on the landscape so far!!
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens removed sod, poured a new sidewalk, installed a new irrigation system, spread topsoil, installed new plants, installed a dry creek, placed moss rock, installed shredded bark and cleaned up all debris. Purchase price included a detailed design on paper with approximate placement of all items including lighting (to be done at a later time) and plant listing.

In a word - great!! I simply cannot say enough about this company or the work they performed for me as there aren't enough words available. This was the final part of a year long effort to renovate a 13 year old manufactured home that sits on an oversized lot in a mobile home community. The yard, in general, was unkempt, unfinished and there was grass to mow - yuck! Not what I wanted. Since this is the final dwelling that I plan on purchasing and living in, I have been very particular about the makeover, both inside and out. And by far, this was the longest and most detailed part of the project but ended up being worth every dollar spent. I originally purchased an Angie's List Big Deal just to have the design work done. From the beginning, Myriah Hoover, a gifted, talented, professional and personable individual (high energy too!!) captured the essence of what I wanted in the landscaping and it wasn't just to be like every other lot in the park - you know the look. It was to reflect me and the "style" that I appreciate which leans towards Asian influence with a real simple design. And while it took a bit longer to complete (due to changes that I kept coming up with, suggestions that Myriah came up with, travel and work schedules) the finished design was, in every way, exactly what I "wanted". In all aspects of this part of the project, Myriah was easy to work with, took changes in stride and explained every step of the process. She provided photos of all the "suggested" design material including ground cover, stepping stones, plants, etc., and even suggested alternatives for each one. I even went to the suggested vendors to look at the plants, decorative rock, etc., just so that I could "visualize" what the finished project might look like. Now, as they say "There is the design and there is the execution.". Not wanting to run all over town and get bids for either the whole project or various pieces and parts, I asked for a bid from Lavish Gardens which turned out to be, let's just say, a bit out of my league. Myriah, to her credit, recognized this and with her assistance and guidance I was able to identify those things that absolutely needed to be done vs. the "nice to haves". We were able to bring the bid/contract down to a manageable financial level for me and still retain the "essence" of the design with the ability to do "add-on's" as time and finances allow. At this point, it was now time for the actual crews to do their thing and I can't say enough about Steve (Project Manager), Ivan, Ricardo, Pablo, Miguel, Ken or any of the others that provided the physical labor and skills to actually build and plant everything. And although they had to work through the mostly inclement weather of the holidays (meaning rainy days, muddy yard and standing water), they did so cheerfully, expertly and without me having to watch over them every step of the way. They asked questions when things weren't clear on the design and offered suggestions for changes because something wasn't going to work but always let me be the final judge of how to proceed. On all days that they worked they were punctual, came fully equipped with needed equipment and supplies and left the work area clean and orderly upon finishing each day. In the end there are actually four words that express how I feel about Lavish Gardens, they're staff and their efforts - AWESOME JOB!! THANK YOU!!

We did not actually use Lavish Gardens. Their pricing was higher than 3 other estimates we had obtained. They did not advise us in regards in how to best accomplish our goals in our yard, including protecting our new concrete patio from cracking due to nearby Redwood trees. They also did not advise us against removing a concrete curbing that was present around the lawn that we were replacing. The other companies that we had received estimates from recommended removing the curbing completely and starting with a clean slate. The company we went with was a little more expensive, but they were able to provide excellent advice in regards to protecting our Redwood trees, as well as steps to take (a barrier that went 18 inches deep) to help prevent the Redwood roots from cracking our concrete. I felt that Lavish Gardens did not actually offer the expertise one would expect from a landscaping company.

The first price quoted was out of my budget but they worked with me to give me what I wanted within the budget I had. It turned out wonderful. I worked with Myriah on the design and Troy on the actual construction. Troy met with me daily to make sure everything was going as planned. The entire process was fun and smooth. I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens Landscape replaced my entire yard with drought resistant plants, shrubs and trees. They also placed mounds of dirt and boulders for aesthetics and put it on a drip system.
It was great. It was excellent and the reason it was excellent is that they work with you in other words they come back and ask you questions about what you want and comment on what you are doing that might be stupid. They communicate well without taking over and they have basically a process that is likely to get the customer the best out come they could have even though the customer didn't know how to do that at the on set.

It was an amazing design and the designer was very helpful.
Description of Work: They initally gave an estimate for the backyard project. We did have the design made by them, but ended up using a different contractor for the project.
Myriah and Steve from Lavish Gardens were great to work with. This job was a bit different for them, as we were working off of a design plan prepared by another landscape architect and I was more involved in the design tweaks and decision-making than most of their other clients. They were very accommodating and let us engage in the process as much as we wanted. The new concrete walkway with brick steps and inlays is unique and beautifully ties into the house. Steve and Myriah left me with full instructions regarding purchasing the water wise plants, and purchasing and installing the drip emitters. I appreciate them sharing their knowledge and experience and learned a lot. I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed the exposed aggregate walkway and replaced it with a new concrete walkway with brick accents; removed a small dry creek bed and created a larger one, removed existing vegetation, created mounds with imported soil, created a flagstone pathway, installed new valves, and ran drip irrigation distribution lines.
