Lavish Gardens Landscape worked well with me. I like that the guy worked with me in doing a really nice layout. He really explained all of what he was doing and if I didn't liked it, he worked really well with me to make sure I like it. It's gorgeous. We have gotten so many compliments on it. I think there are probably some things that I might have been able to get a better price for but I'm not sure. It took a long time before they actually show up to get the work done.

Lavish Gardens gave us the backyard we have always dreamed of. The yard was challenging and Ken, the designer, was able to incorporate grown trees and a spa into a beautiful backyard. Ken is enthusiastic, creative and takes pride in his job. Steve the foreman/supervisor was a delight to work with along with his workers. Lavish Gardens was able to give us the yard we envisioned. Quality guys!
Description of Work: Landscaped our side and backyard. Graded, added 3 retaining walls, sidewalks, driveway, gate, grass, decompose granite, drains, sprinkler system, designed koi pond, concrete slabs with Mexican pebbles, pavestone patio, plants, lighting and bark.

I was not able to go with them but they were very professional. We decided to postpone it because of some medical things that came up. They did a nice job; the lady they sent out was very professional and thorough. The quoted price was fine, especially for the quality of the work I have noticed that they have done. Their price was about where I expected it to be and if we had done the work I probably would have gone with them. Her questions made her professional as well as her attention to detail on the bid process when she walked around to get my ideas; tapping into my thoughts to incorporate that into her plan. They did a good job.

The plans were drawn up and were good. When asked how much it would cost to do the job it was way to high. The price he quoted is really the base price. Getting into the project there is alway changes that are made. By the time we would have completed the job it would have cost 2 to 3 thousand more than the original price.
Description of Work: Way to expensive.

Overall, it went very well. The design process was very professional and they did all the coordination with the HOA, water company, etc. That saved me a lot of headache. Everything was done as planned and looks great. My only minor complaint is that 2 of the smaller plants died in the fall.

Our yard is so small and other companies either laughed at us or just didn't return our calls. I am so glad that Michael and his team did. Anthony worked with us on the design and really understood our low maintenance vision. We ran into some issues with our proposed dog run materials. Pea-rock and decomposed granite were out due to the dogs, so we decided on stamped-concrete and everyone made it such an easy switch. We also wanted to re-purpose some already existing stones, fences, and other materials and they worked it in. They pulled out old plants, crabgrass and leveled the ground, added mounds, and poured a beautiful walkway and patio. They were able to match an exiting pergola and a wrought iron fence and it all came together nicely. Robert was the site manager and everyone had great communication. Always knew when they would be there and they kept it clean after every visit (big points for me). From the top down, everyone was professional and friendly. The once dreaded mud bog in the back yard is now so nice, I hate to let the dogs out even in their own area. No more muddy paws in the house and the dogs love their digging area. We are looking to transform the front yard and we will definitely be calling Michael and his team.
Description of Work: We have a very small backyard with half dedicated to two dogs and the other half dedicated to humans. It needed a transformation.

Our experience with Max was one of the best we have ever had with any vendor. He is a highly talented landscape architect with highly creative idea. His energy is wonderful and we clearly understand that he loves what he does. He introduced ideas we would have never considered and he left us with our jaws dropped. In terms of working with him, he always communicated next steps in detail, he always showed up exactly on time and he delivered exactly what he committed to deliver. We communciated to both Max and Mike that we were now as excited about our landscaping project as we were about our house remodel. That was as high a compliment as we could have given.
Description of Work: We were looking for a landscape company to complete a design for our entire property. We received three bids and Lavish Gardens Landscape came in with the best bid and agreed to do a waterfall design for our pool. Mike, the owner, came out and walked every inch of our property to ensure he understood exactly what we wanted. They then sent out Max, their landscape architect, to meet with us and complete the entire design.

They were a pleasure to work with, and very customer focused. Steve was a consummate pro, and his crew were friendly and efficient. Great job all around.

We bought a short sale home which had an out-of-control backyard. We could not envision how to landscape the sloping yard and contacted Lavish Gardens. Michael Cole met with us in March and we paid for a landscape design. We were very happy with the design and signed the landscaping agreement early May. The project began in June and was completed late August due to the many stages and our vacationing time. Michael was as excited about the project as we were and had his photographer take pictures of the finished job. Steve was the project lead and was very thorough in communication and making sure our expectations were met. We are very happy with our backyard.
Description of Work: Removed existing concrete, excavated/moved boulders and dirt, re-ran drainage system, installed stamp finish concrete, cantilever pool coping and steps, paths and borders, small pad for future shed, french drains, custom stucco retaining walls, custom granite retaining walls, sprinkler drip system, lighting, plants, trees, deco bark and upgraded to Tuff Grass artificial lawn.

We won a free landscape design from Lavish Gardens. The service was excellent. They really listened to the needs of what we wAnted in our yard. I couldn't be happier with the design plans. They were prompt in getting the plans to us and they were on time for all appointments. However, when it came time for the bid to install all the designs they wanted an outrageous amount of money. Unfortunately we had to use other people for the install. We just didn'thave the kind of money they were looking for. So while I would recommend for the design service I would shop around for installation.

Overall, the process was fine, but it was a bit slower that we were hoping. There were days when we felt a little frustrated that the crew was scheduled elsewhere, and in the end, we're really happy with the finished project. Home construction/improvement projects are never fun, so a little extra patience is definitely helpful. Mike and Steve and crew were great!
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens did a great job redesigning our backyard. They also did the construction, starting first with the removal of my previous landscaping, then working to install the new, which included additional soil, concrete pads for our new gazebo and shed, an awesome Three Rivers flagstone path around the entire yard, new irrigation (drips and micro sprayers), various plantings, path lighting, and bark.

Ten years ago we bought a new house and could only afford to install a pool and a small patio. Most of the backyard remained rocks and weeds for eight years. Two years ago we hired a licensed landscaper to finish the yard. He eventually stopped showing up after he had collected most of his money. Little did we know the contract he wrote was vague and benefited him during arbitration. Despite this we were still awarded a few thousand dollars from arbitration; but he never paid us and eventually lost his license. Although we were rid of the weeds and we had some grass and new patio area, most of our yard was still unusable. After this terrible experience we heard about Angie's List and eventually found Mike and Lavish Gardens. We met Mike over a year ago and he provided a free design for us. We couldn't afford to start work last year so we waited till spring and had Mike sit down with us to stream line the project and trim the budget. I found everyone at Lavish Gardens to be polite and professional. Ben designed the plan and listened carefully to our likes and dislikes. When work finally started in July Steve was the project supervisor and our main contact. He kept us well informed on how the job went. He and his crew were very knowledgeable and worked well together. They went more than the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied. It's one thing to have the owner or job supervisor proud of the work they do; but this sums it up best: When the stone sitting walls and patio were being set Miguel, one of the workers, started showing us photos on his smart phone of previous jobs he'd done. He showed us photo after photo of projects they had done. The pride he shown in his work sums up the overall workmanship that everyone at Lavish Gardens has. Our backyard has become not only a place we can use but it's opened up our whole house by giving us wonderful views to look at. With Lavish Gardens I found everything I was looking for: a company that is honest, reliable, and really cares about what they are doing. I only wish I had known about Angie's List 2 years ago.
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens provided a free design for our large (1/3 acre) backyard. They removed 500 square feet of sod. They reshaped mounds of earth that were left over from digging our pool 10 years ago. Then they installed a new drainage system where there was none, and corrected the previously non-functioning one that was there. They added a 250 square foot concrete stamped patio with cantilever steps. Two curved 3 foot high stone sitting walls, each 11 feet long. Added a 60 foot long, 3 foot high retaining wall with french drains. They put in a 4' x 6' vegetable box; new 1300 sq ft of lawn surrounded by a concrete mow strip; and 23 trees with over 200 plants and bushes. We had a dry cobble stream bed installed. Lavish Gardens also installed 628 square feet of decomposed granite walkway and patio. A lighting system throughout the yard highlights patios, pathes, and trees. This plan includes automated irrigation and lighting systems. Shredded redwood bark covers the open areas. Six tons of Blue River Washed boulders are scattered throughout the yard. Finally we had Lavish Gardens color, stain, and seal 2500 square feet of new and existing concrete.

Lavish Gardens is an extremely professional and knowledgeable company! They were very good to let us drive the general idea, but at the same time knew exactly where to insert their knowledge and help guide us properly. It was evident that our happiness was first and foremost. Welive in a gated community with a strict HOA. Their project manager was absolutely fantastic as he individually took the time to meet with our HOA face to face on multiple occasions regarding plant selection, concrete color, stone inlay color and rock wall height. His effort was above and beyond and made for a very smooth and wonderful rejuvenation of our front yard! We couldn?t be moregrateful.
Description of Work: Basically, we wanted to remove all the grass from our front yard and replace it with a walkway and plants/mulch (no more mowing!) Demo of existing front yard (took out plants, grass, and concrete walkway) Landscape Design (with plans for submission to HOA for approval) Stamped concrete walkway with flagstone insert Rock Walls Installation of plants/tree/mulch Installation of lighting

Lavish Gardens provided and continues to provide top notch customer service. I contacted Lavish Gardens when I decided to update the landscaping in by backyard. The owner, Michael, came out for the initial consultation and was very informative, helpful, and addressed all of our questions and concerns. This guy really loves his work and it shows in his personality! We decided to go ahead with a design from Lavish Gardens. The designer was very professional, knowledgable, and took the time to make sure the we were satisfied with the plan through three separate one-on-one meetings. This was my first experience with a landscape designer, but I felt the price for the design was more than fair based on the preliminary research I had done on design costs. In the end, I opted to not to have the project completed due to the decision to sell my home. However, I would not have hesitated to have Lavish Gardens complete the work just based on the outstanding customer service I received during the planning process as well as all of the positive reviews on Angie's List. Michael continues to be a great resource for landscape advice as I am searching for my next home. I will definitely contact Lavish Gardens for my next landscaping project.

After an extensive search for landscape designers, including much research on Angie's List, we settled on Lavish Gardens. We asked for a designer who, as it turned out, was starting his own company outside Lavish Gardens and whom we had unknowingly interviewed for the job as well. Lavish Gardens agreed to have him do our design for a couple of hundred dollars less than he had bid it on his own, so we agreed. His task was to take a dirt backyard with a hole dug by the previous owner for a swimming pool and make it, along with our home-builder-basic front yard, into something unique. Our first speedbump occurred when, just a couple of days after deciding on Lavish Gardens, they called to say that the designer we wanted was leaving the company (and the area). So we accepted a different designer, the one we had initially interviewed from Lavish Gardens before finding out the other fellow we liked also worked for them, for a slightly discounted price. As it turned out, the departing designer's company kept offering Big Deals through Angie's List for landscape design for months after we signed our Lavish Gardens contract; we don't know if he really left the area or not, but his company sure continued on. Also, Lavish Gardens offered some Big Deals of their own afterward but we never heard a peep from them about the possibility of lowering our design price. Not a big deal, we figured, because if they implement the design then they deduct the cost of the design from the cost of actually implementing it. Based on the Angie's List reviews of Lavish Gardens it seemed a virtual certainty that we would hire them to do the job in the end. Our designer worked hard and long on our design, working through a few iterations. He seemed to have some pretty good software at his disposal as his drawings always looked very professional. We consulted with him a handful of times during the process, and he was always willing to meet us at our convenience. We mostly met him at the house, but he even came to our place of business once to meet with us and our pool designer to ensure that everyone was on the same page in terms of the overall vision. He dropped things off for us to look at in between consultations, and made sure that the materials we needed in order to have our HOA review the design were all prepared. His drawings gathered much acclaim from everyone that saw them, ranging from the HOA personnel to rival landscape companies that we had bid on the design once it was approved by the HOA. And, it should be noted, the designer made a pretty large last-minute change at the behest of the HOA and did it quickly to help us complete the approval process. In short, we had no complaints about the design process or product other than that perhaps Lavish Gardens could have given us a little more of a break on the price. Which brings us to the implementation phase of the landscaping process. Lavish Gardens had the inside track for the job, but the bid they submitted - even after the 20% discount for Angie's List customers - was $10k higher than the next bid. Just imagine, without that "discount" they'd have been almost $35k higher than the *next* highest bid, not even the lowest bid! I don't know how to explain the gap between the price we were quoted ($95k, after discount) and the prices I have seen listed on other Angie's List reviews, which seem to top out at around $60k. Our lot is not small (.38 acres) and the ground is not great, at least in the back yard where we didn't already have the builder amend the soil - there is lots of lava cap. But all of the bids we received were made with jackhammering in mind for the drainage and irrigation work. We feel like either Lavish Gardens just assumed they had the job and we wouldn't bother bidding it out for comparative purposes (although we told our designer from the beginning that we would), or maybe they nudged their prices up based on our ZIP code, or maybe they had enough work elsewhere and just didn't care if they got our job. Whatever the reason, the bid was almost insulting in nature and we didn't hire them to do the actual landscaping work. They talked about how their quality was superior, but the areas that they were the highest in comparison to other bids were things like irrigation, drainage, and demolition - not really areas in which one separates from the pack in terms of quality. The landscaper we did hire came in $25k below Lavish Gardens, even with their Angie's List discount applied, and he wasn't even the lowest bid. The gap between him and Lavish Gardens would have been closer to $50k without the "discount" for Angie's List customers ...
Description of Work: They provided a landscape design for our yard, working in conjunction with a pool designer. They also submitted a bid for implementation of the finished design.

The project went smoothly, and we were very impressed with the professional manner of all the Lavish Gardens employees involved in it. The initial meetings to discuss what we wanted and to plan details were very thorough with attention paid to what we wanted. The actual work was done efficiently and with attention to detail... and everything was cleaned up beautiully at the project's end. We are very pleased with our new patio area, and would definitely use Lavish Gardens again for a future project. The only little glitch was that we took a 3 week out of state vacation after the initial meeting, and had to wait to actually get the project started until we returned.

We completely re-landscaped our front and back yards. This required total demolition of the former hard-scape and removal of all existing plant material, followed by installation of new flagstone patios, walkways, front yard stairs, plantings (trees, shrubs, lawn, annuals and perenials), lighting, and irrigation. We also had a patio pergola with fan installed. From the initial design consultation and meetings to the final plantings, everything was done exactly as we hoped, on time and on budget. Where permits were required, Lavish Landscapes handled it for us.The designer really listened to what we were envisioning for our yard, and provided a wonderful plan to meet our expectations. The implementation of the design was smooth; as questions arose - and they always do! - we were responded to quickly. Communication with staff and subs was excellent. We made a few changes to the plan along the way, and they were incorporated without any hassle. We appreciated the professionalism of Lavish Landscapes, and were pleased to be working with a company that clearly likes to do things the right way, while still bringing the vision of the homeowner to fruition. This is a company that really cares about their work and making sure the homeowner is happy with the results. On all fronts, a quality job!

Overall the work produced went OK, but the transaction ended very poorly. The guys that did the work were great, the wall and plantings and DG sitting area is great quality.....it's just that it seems if you're not oozing cash..the sales and such aren't that thrilled to work with you. Just look at the reviews- the one's where people spent $29k or $60k have 100% glowing reviews.Thing is that over time- perhaps we would spend that much but they shot themselves in the foot by poor customer service and lack of respect. Plus - shoot maybe expand a bit and have folks that handle smaller jobs? The interaction started by us making a call to get a quote. We made an appt. 1st appt was cancelled /rescheduled..a very personal issue that I didn't need to know the details on to feel bad for being disappointed that the appt was rescheduled at the last minute. So, a few days later a person came by to give a quote. The quotes seemed to take a long long time..like a week or a week and a half. We asked for many things..then pared it down to just those that we wanted to do in the first phase. Between the two quotes- many of the numbers didn't make sense, didn't add up right. I don't like to catch people in errors but when it comes to spending hard earned $ I do check the math and try to understand the job..not just look at the total and say...whatever. Plus, there was a dump fee of $320 for them to clean up after themselves- which seems odd- since most other contractors I've worked with have clean up as just a part of their responsibitily-cost of doing biz. We overlooked and let the sales person fix the numbers and agreed on a total. It's not that the total amount was that crazy--but the reasoning behind the $$ amounts were flawed..thus our confidence in them providing an accurate quote waned and made me doubt if they would be responsible when it came to delivering the job. Like most businesses, I would assume there are set prices for various work. For example- a basic install of a decomposed granite area- you would think it would be priced per square foot-but doesn't seem to be so. One completed area was one price...but a quote for a 2nd area of a smaller size-was quoted higher! ? So, we got the 1st phase done and then after the odd quoting decided maybe this place is kinda flakey and maybe just get the irrigation expanded for now and think over who will do the other work. But apparently it's not ok to change your mind and just request a less than $1000 task(irrigation expansion) to be done...because we never heard back from the sales person after that request..even though there was a standing appointment to meet to discuss next steps...they were a no show, no call, no email. Not like we were changing our minds every two seconds..it's just that we had questions since those numbers weren't adding up right and we felt like we wanted to understand what the work was. You have to be 100% clear on these jobs or you don't get what you want. But no response. Also- never go the promised paper yard design mailed to us..just emailed version. Also- just a few weeks ago we got a survey from the owner -on which I described my concerns and bad feeling-yet he never called to ask what happened or anything. So- to all the descriptions that Mr. Cole is so fabulous- I have not seen it. .
Description of Work: Decorative wall,(77 feet of dry stack moss rocks, drainage) Shrubs(10 hopseeds and soil) Landscape Edging(140 feet installed in front and back areas for edging/neatness) Decomposed Granite Area (12x9..which actually ended up smaller -even when measuered at largest curves was 184 sq feet rather than quoted 209 sq feet. Irrigation -moved hose bib 20feet across part of yard, install of drip 5/8'' tube irrigation to the shrubs.

Lavish Gardens impressed me with their excellent communcation and attention to detail, with me and among their team members. The ownership and lead foreman were hands-on from the first moment we began the design to putting the final polish on my dream yard. They treated me with respect and gave me the yard of my dreams.
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens helped with complete landscape design for my front and backyard. Provided detailed plans for all phases of the project, and worked closely with me to ensure everything was exactly as I dreamed. I had them landscape the front and backyard. They did an awesome job!

Working with Mike Cole and employees at Lavish Gardens has been an outstanding experience. They took approximately one-half acre of tired lawn and turned it into a beautiful drought resistant, native plant haven. My husband and I could not be happier with the quality of workmanship, level of care and dedication shown by all of the crew. We first met with Mike after seeing his ad in Angie's List. The first thing he did was to call back which many of the contractors we contacted did not bother to do, he made an appointment and stuck to the time and date. Mike was responsive to our wants and our financial reality. The landscape designer we worked with, Anthony McClendon was fantastic, he listened to us, looked at pictures of yards we liked and plants we wanted and came up with a plan that works perfectly. Steve Long was the foreman on the job. He is an outstanding person to work wth. I cannot praise him enough. He was attentive to our concerns, spent hours placing the plants after hand-picking each one. He chose our flagstone path material, made good suggestions on choice of bark, decomposed granite walkways, lighting, etc. He was on-site early in the morning and stayed late at night to make sure the product Lavish Gardens was delivering met our standards. As some of the plants we had chosen were a little esoteric, Steve spent a lot of time and effort finding just the right plant. He worked closely with the crew to explain the details of the job, answer questions and make they were comfortable with the job at hand. Ivan was the crew leader. He and his team never stopped while on site. They are some of the hardest workers I have ever seen. They demolished the old lawn (really mowed weeds), placed multiple dry stream beds, moved boulders, built an extensive decompsed granite walkway, planted trees and all the plants, installed the lighting and spread yards and yards of mulch. They cleaned up at the end of each day, never leaving a mess. They were obviously experienced, they had smiles on their faces, an were extremely respectful. I cannot express how happy we are with the final product.
Description of Work: Lavish Gardens: Designed a landscape plan Demolished old yard Removed bushes and plants Laid an extensive decomposed granite walkway Moved large boulders Built three large dry stream beds Planted trees Planted in excess of 225 plants Provided appropriate topsoil and weed deterrant Installed lighting Spread 120 plus yards of mulch

We did not use lavish landscape due to the owners lack of communication.
Description of Work: Simply stated Lavish landscapes was a poor example of communication and customer focus. Numerous appts rescheduled or missed and weak in responding. I had to constantly follow up with him. He has a contract that he adheres to unless you bring issues up and then it is all flexible and not important. I am not the only person that has made the comment about communication. Mike the owner is not customer focused although he will make you believe he is. We ended the relationship and are take away was he was arrogant and did not care about our business. We decided to use another Landscaper and do the part of the work ourselves and the project turned out great. I would stay away from Lavish Gardens.

Overall we were very happy with the work that was done. We were impressed with Steve, the person responsible for executing the landscape plan. He communicated regularly with us, asking us about any changes that he saw that needed to be made, and was able to modify the plan as necessary as the work progressed. Steve also had a good eye for what would look best and we were glad we trusted his judgement when he would suggest any changes. We were particularly pleased with the new paver patio, which made use of a new 'kit' that Steve was able to find to create a circular patio without doing a lot of cutting of pavers. The landscape designer, Ben, had great ideas and we really liked his plant selection for the new landscape, which ensured color from interesting foliage or flowering plantsthroughout the year. Our only real disappointment was during the initial phases of planning the work, because of a lot of rescheduling of appointments, or delays in getting back to us when we contacted the company. It took a while to get the work actually contracted and underway. Once Steve got started with the actual work it went very well, and we are very happy with the end result. We're enjoying watching the landscape evolve as the plants are getting established. It was well worth the investment.
Description of Work: We had our backyard landscaped, which included taking out the old lawn and mow strip and some existing bushes, and replacing it with a smaller lawn, new mow strip, lots of new plants, installing a paver patio and flagstones leading to the patio, and moving a fountain to a different location.
