I have known Dave Norris for 25 years. His son and business partner Brian was a young boy back then! I have had several projects done by Sherwood Construction. In 2010 they did a kitchen and family room remodel. The quality was top notch. Everyone who sees the work is impressed by the form and function of our space. Thinking back to this project, I remember being particularly impressed by the way that the entire crew cleaned the worksite at the end of each day. There was never a pile of dirt anywhere, and all their tools were safely put away. It made living in the house during construction quite bearable. Recently, we had an issue with our electrical system. I have a home warranty, so I called them first. I was very disappointed. There was no way I would let that contractor touch my house. I called Dave Norris, and he carved out the time to take care of us. It was very detailed in that we needed to upgrade our electrical panel from 125 Amps to 200 Amps. Once the city gave us the permit, Dave got started and finished within 24 hours, including the city inspection. Once again, a great job, and a clean jobsite. We have no problems with circuit breakers now! I would never hesitate to call Sherwood for any project at my home, and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs electrical or general remodeling work.

We had a squirrel chew through the ground wire outside our house which caused a whole-house power outage. The City of Riverside electrician was able to come out within the hour and got most things up and running, but we still didn't have hot water, and a ceiling fan, computer, television and lamp didn't work in my office. Dave was initially responsive, and came out the next day. He was very nice and professional. He determined that the outlet for the hot water heater blew out because of the surge, and replaced it. Unfortunately, the surge also destroyed the water heater, so we had to have that replaced as well. But he didn't have time to do anything in my office that day, and requested I call to set up an additional appointment, which I didn't have a problem with. My husband was able to determine that the outlets were defective, but the surge suppressors had done their job, and the computer and television still worked when he plugged them into heavy duty extension cords which he plugged in downstairs. So I didn't mind waiting a reasonable amount of time to have these items fixed. But unfortunately, trying to reach Dave in order to set up another appointment was extremely difficult. We always got voice mail, no matter what time of the day we called. And Dave just didn't return our calls. I believe we called five times over the course of the next week. He had told us his son worked with him, but was out of town on another job. But that doesn't account for poor office skills. Even if he's not available, he should at least return phone calls. After a week, we gave up and contacted another electrician.

Response from SHERWOOD CONSTRUCTION & ELECTRIC
Receiving a mixed review of my work is always a bit disconcerting, but after reading Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s recent review of my services I feel compelled to present my side of the story. As Mrs. [Member Name Removed] wrote when she first contacted me, I responded quickly, helped them figure out that the micro-electronics in their water heater had short circuited, and extended a reduced price for my work. I also greatly appreciate that she felt my staff and I were very nice and professional. While I was able to remedy Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s main issue, they desired additional work that we mutually agreed they would contact at a later date to complete. Fast forward to this last week when I was informed of Mrs. [Member Name Removed]'s review in which she stated that she tried to call me at least five times and received my voice mail. I find this curious as I have not receive any messages from the [Member Name Removed]'s as of this posting, and a review of cell statements shows the last incoming calls from the [Member Name Removed] occurring April 28, 2016 at 8:10 a.m. My returns calls to them were at 1:40 p.m. and 4:45 p.m., on the same day (the day the work was performed). I also checked my phone log in my home office and there were no entries from them. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] goes on to state that "over the course of the next week" she called me at least five times. Again I find that interesting because during the same time frame I mailed them their invoice on May 8th and received and deposited their payment on May 26th. I'm yet again curious as to why she didn't include a note saying she was trying to reach me for the additional work items? My first question is if the [Member Name Removed]'s were trying to contact me, why didn't they leave a message for me on Angie's List, text, email me directly, or call my business partner who is listed as a contact? Second, if they were so frustrated as a result of their efforts to contact me why did nearly five months pass prior to the posting of their review? I know clients do not like to be transferred to voice mail, none of us do. I also believe it is of the utmost importance to be available to your clients. That is why all my information is posted on sites like Angie's List, and I keep my cell phone with me at all times. I am not always able to take calls immediately. I might be with a client, in an attic, or have my hands in a "live" electrical panel. My clients are the reason that I have had 34 years of successful business, and they are definitely not taken for granted. I am dedicated to my clients and spend a lot of time with them. Many become part of my circle of friends and pseudo extended family. Finally, I apologize in advance if you call me and receive my voice mail, but please leave a message and I will most definitely return your call. Sincerely Dave
Eddy H.

Brian, the owners son & also a licensed electrician, had to remove the old and dangerous wiring and rewire about 50% the house. There was plaster repair as well as paint touch-up which was completed promptly. During the course of the work Brian saw a few things that also should be done and he was proactive in bring them up while there and offering to do them either now or at a later time. Very easy to work with and the work is clean at the end of each day. At the end of the job, the site was clean and there were phone calls to keep us in the loop as we do not live in the house. We can now lease the house without concern that there are electrical issues for the tenants. We will use them again if the situation were to present itself.
Description of Work: Re-wired older home in the Riverside area that was constructed in the 1920's. The old wiring was shorting and caused the circuit breaker to trip off. The repair involved 2 new branch circuits installed all the way to the main panel.
These services were performed on 3 separate occasions. Dave Norris, the owner, is a true professional. The results always exceeded my expectations. Great communications and flexible with my time schedule. Dave takes care of every minute detail to make sure I never have a problem again, always using the best parts. He also explains to me what he is doing and makes suggestions for improvements. I know the work he does is always code or better. I'm in the process of other projects with Dave including replacing windows and painting among a few. Dave Norris can do it all with his contractors license and electrical license. It's nice to work with the same guy for all your needs.
Description of Work: Replaced all my bathroom vent fans, repaired two toilets, replaced my outside water main, repaired bathroom light, removed fluorescent lights in kitchen and replaced with recessed lighting with dimmer switch and other switches, installed ceiling fan and another light fixture.
SHERWOOD CONSTRUCTION & ELECTRIC was excellent. He was very professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy. He was very careful and protected all of my existing property, cleaned up after every job and placed everything in my home back into its place. I would highly recommend this company with confidence.

Our contractor was so professional, honest and timely. He did all the work with a sincere professional manner. We actually had to do this via long distance. Our brother had passed away and we live in Michigan- Dave would send us emails, texts and pictures to approve the "fix" or refuse it. We would go to Lowes and pick out the flooring, fixtures, etc. send him via text a picture and UPC codes: he would then go and purchase the exact items and show us via a picture the installation. We communicated constantly with this re-do of our brother's home. We can not rave enough about Sherwood Construction. We have already recommended them to our family and friends in California. If you are in need of a handyman or further construction, please call them. You will not be disappointed.

Occasionally, life will give you a business experience that has all the "right" values. Such is the case with Sherwood Construction & Electric. Dave Norris & his crew were top notch in their work to upgrade an electric service to a new panel. They worked well to provide minimal impact to the residents of a rental house and we would happily work with Dave in the future.

Well, this was to be my first experience using Angie's List. I am in need of an electrician to repair a light fixture in my hallway. My house was built in the mid-fifties, and from my time here, it appears to have a lot of the original "everything." As I attempted to change the fixture myself, I noticed more wires than usual in the light box. So I attempted to pull some of them free to see what's in there. This is, of course, after I had shut the power off for that room. As I pulled the wires, they began to crumble. As I reached in again, I got a slight shock. So it looked like I would need a "professional." So I called Sherwood Construction and Electric. By reading their bio, I was confident that I was making the right choice. But after calling them at 8am for a requested call back, I finally did get called back after 6pm. And with this call I was told that no one would be available for at least a month or later because they were on a big project out of state. Well, to me, customer service starts with the first call. And I am very disappointed with my results after contacting Sherwood. Just a helpful hint, to the service providers, that don't make ur ads sound "bigger" than the company. It sounds like there may only be 2 brothers working for this company, as opposed to, 2 brothers supervising their jobs.

Response from SHERWOOD CONSTRUCTION & ELECTRIC
Wow!! I am shocked by this review... I personally called (deleted member name) back in the evening on the same day, (just as he states in his review). I explained that we were working nine hours north (in Ukiah California), and I would be unable to help him with his repair, and I suggested returning to Angie's List and search for other qualified electricians. I would rather be honest with a client than promise something I cannot deliver. He seemed to understand, and did not express any frustration or disappointment. I am always concerned with my client’s (or potential client’s) needs. If I cannot service or execute their project, I am always happy to refer them to someone who is also qualified and will provide nothing but exceptional, professional service. It's not as though I had not called him back in a timely manner, or promised him a service call. Remember, his message was for a hallway lighting repair, and not a main breaker failure, or a complete power outage, which are priorities for our clients during the hot weather. Clients who have previously contracted for work also take precedence. I think it is very unfair that (deleted member name) did not take the opportunity to express his displeasure with me, since I took time to return his call personally. Also, he stated that our company profile suggests we are larger than we portray it to be. If he had fully read my profile which states that, “keeping it small is so important in this era”. My profile states that this is a family business (not two brothers). We are a father and son business, and our clients have always been the key to our many years in business. Lastly, if (deleted member name) really felt he had an emergency or an immediate need, he could have reached me on my cell phone which is listed on my profile. I am proud to say that I have two “Super Service Awards” in two years with Angie’s List, and I also have three “Page of Happiness” nominations. If you are considering calling us for your project I am always available on my cell at (951) 313-1980, and I will return your call within a 24-hour period. Sincerely Dave Norris General & Electrical Contractor

David Norris from Sherwood came out and looked at the work. He was very up-front with what would be included and not included. We agreed to the scope of work. He got with me within two days and gave me a bid. I got on his schedule and he is coming out this Saturday to complete the work. He came out just for the electrical circuit and it was repaired quickly.
Description of Work: Contacted Sherwood Construction, explained the issues I was having and asked if he could come out immediately to scope the job and prepare an estimate. I needed one bedroom door installed and another finished. Also, one of my electrical circuits was not working.

Dave Norris called me a short time after I put in my inquiry on Angie's List. He made an appointment with me and came to the house to inspect the windows he would replace. He discussed various kinds of windows with me, and we finally settled on a brand and style that would most likely blend with my 50's house. He spent time explaining the value of dual-pane glass. We then made a basic plan for the French doors and mini-walls. Dave measured each and every window and frame carefully. He took all the information home and returned within a couple of days with a contract outlining the details we discussed. A start date was set for the 20th of August and he ordered the materials. A week later, one of his helpers returned to assist in the delivery of the windows for storage in my garage. Norris and his crew of 3 helpers did an excellent job and fulfilled all items agreed to on the contract. He was prompt, sending me information and calling me back when requested. He arrived on time every day and was finished in approximately a week. His crew was clean, protecting my wood floors and adjacent walls. They moved all large pieces of furniture for me. All trash, nails, glass, and screens were picked up daily. The helpers were extremely respectful and careful, as was Dave, and they welcomed questions. I did not feel that he would put his workers on the job unsupervised and then leave me to deal with them. On the start date, and every work day thereafter, Dave and his helpers were quietly waiting outside when I opened the door at 8:00 in the morning. After covering the wood floors from the front door to the first work area, they started to work. The crew moved from room to room, about a room a day, replacing all the windows in one room before the going into the next room. They worked steadily and quickly, having obviously developed a routine. Dave brought me in to review their work from time to time, to make sure all was acceptible. If later I found something that needed attending to, Dave would personally see to it. He worked especially hard to remove molding in the library which matched the color of the panelling. We had agreed that if this old molding cracked, we would put in new white molding. I was so happy to find that he was able to remove the old molding and put it back up around the new windows. He did a lovely job. I was very pleased with the job as a whole. I enjoyed working with Mr. Norris. He is very knowledgeable on the subject of windows and doors, which was very helpful to me. I plan to replace the front door next, and have already arranged for a contract to be written.
Description of Work: The job consisted of the replacement of 11 sets of single-paned sashed windows with new dual-glass windows, in 4 bedrooms and the library of a late 1950's house. Each window was framed with new wooden molding appropriate to the age of the house. Sherwood Construction measured and ordered the custom-made windows from the manufacturer, and brought all other materials. In the library, an all-glass wall with a slider was removed. In its place, a set of large dual-glass French doors with openable side-windows was installed. On either side of the glass, a 3-foot wall was built and drywalled to enclose the room. The outside of each wall was wrapped and stuccoed. Molding was added to create a natural junction between glass and mini-walls. On the opposite side of the library, the contractor Dave successfully removed and returned the matching brown molding to its original place, lending continuity between panelling and windows. No painting was included in the price of the job; however, Dave offered to do that for an additional fee. In addition, an old ceiling fan was removed and a new fan installed. Wiring included a new control switch in the wall.
Brian and Dave Norris and their teams worked for several weeks on the house and completed it on time and within budget. Brian raised several questions along the way that resulted in the ability for us to make changes to improve the overall plan. He kept in touch throughout the project to make sure we were appraised of the progress. They were very proactive in making sure we were thoroughly satisfied with their work, and we were. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Brian Norris worked with us to put together a comprehensive rehab plan for an investment property we purchased that needed lots of repairs and upgrades inside. The scope of the work included updating all three bathrooms, electrical work, plumbing, removing acoustic ceilings, painting, tiling, carpeting, repairs to door frames, and some drywall work.

Dave did what he said he would do when he said he would do it. He kept us informed at all steps and was very cooperative when we asked for extra things to be done after he started the job. All of the workers were very professional as well. They always cleaned up after their work and took care to be respectful of their cleanliness when working in the house. We have had various workers on previous jobs at our house and Sherwood Construction is by far an outstanding company in comparison!
Description of Work: Removed old service panel and installed a new one, trenched through the yard to take electricity to a workshop at the back of the property and filled in trench, installed a new 50a main breaker in workshop and wired workshop, removed old overhead lights in garage and installed new ones plus a fan, closed off some electrical outlets we didn't want, and labeled all work.
