Description of Work: I called them to give a bid on 800 sq ft of new oak flooring, I had to wait about 2 weeks so they could get to me. They came and spent a few minutes measuring and left. I never heard from them again. I called to ask for a written proposal and they said they "lost" the measurements. Apparently they have plenty of business if they can afford to treat people this way.

Description of Work: We used these folks to refinish two rooms, and lay down hardwoods in both of our properties (both properties are <1000 square feet). The initial work was fine -- if more expensive than expected when the workers couldn't re-use our baseboards & we had to install new ones. | |It was also a little disappointing in that one floor was missing tile for over a month and I had to say we would not be completing payment until the floor was actually fixed and the job done. This was apparently a radical idea, as we should have been happy to send over several thousand dollars and live with a broken bathroom floor. | |More disappointing: Less than two years after the hardwood floors were laid, we have bowed floorboards, cracks and creaks in several areas. I am not terribly impressed with the quality of the materials being used, if they can't stand up to 20 months of light use, nor with the workmanship that did not take the vagaries of old houses into account when re-laying floor. | |This company was pleasant to deal with, but I got the distinct sense that as a small-potatoes customer with my measly sub-$20,000 job, the company thought I am not worth cultivating a relationship. This is disappointing in that we chose Tulip over two lower quotes because our early impression had been that we'd get decent customer service and/or an ongoing relationship. | |I need to repair my hardwoods, but I seriously doubt I'll be using Tulip again.

Description of Work: I made an appointment for an estimate and they called the morning of and left a message that their estimator was ill. When I returned their call to re-schedule, they didn't pick up nor did they return my call, ever. Really bad start to a business relationship; never a good sign.

 + 0 moreOUTSTANDING. I cannot recommend Tulip Floors highly enough! From the estimation process - including bringing out some floor samples - to working with our homeowners' association approval committee and getting the documentation and underlayment needed for our building to installation and after work, it was great. They were very professional - more so with their documentation and estimates (including being able to email them, which all companies could not do!), as well as being accessible and timely, all was very smooth. Their prices were indeed reasonable, and the installers were very professional and personable as well. They also did great transition work around floor outlets, island, etc. In addition, there was some confusion with our carpet layers (separate company) and the transition between the carpets and floors, and they came back to remedy it. All around, we are very pleased, and have received fabulous compliments on our floors!
Description of Work: Install underlayment and hardwood floors, also include quarter-rounds and transitions between floors and carpets. They also coordinated with our HOA providing the appropriate documentation needed for our building.

 + 0 moreOverall they did a good but I wasn't quiet happy with the stain coloring - it ended up being lighter then I expected. They were very responsive and did a good job communicating the various stages of the process to me. I would use them again.

 + 0 moreThis was a great experience. The estimator came out right away. We had originally planned to have the floors sanded and sealed, but he said the floors appeared to be in very good condition, and that it would be safe to just recoat them. He offered the option of using the commercial-grade "Traffic" seal, but let us know that, in most homes, a residential-grade seal works well. We opted for Traffic anyway, but appreciated knowing he wasn't trying to get us to pay for unnecessary extras. The two men who came to do the work were punctual, and incredibly nice. They left the house very clean. When I called later to say I thought there was a strange texture on part of our bedroom floor, they came back out and were just as polite. They looked at the area and explained that the texture was from a rubber rug mat that used to be in that spot, and that we would have to sand the floor down to smooth it out. I decided I was fine with it as is. The staff who answer the office phone are less polite but competent, and everyone who came to the house was great.
Description of Work: They buffed and recoated all of our hardwood flooring (6 rooms, a hallway, and a flight of stairs) using a heavy-duty, commercial-grade, low-voc, water-based sealant.

 + 0 moreThe project took 8 days. The new flooring was installed during the first 3 days while we stayed in the house. The refinishing and coating of the existing floors took 5 days, and we stayed elsewhere. Tulip did exactly what we wanted, did it in the time promised, and stuck to their estimate even though they had to replace a few boards. All in all, it was one of the least stressful home improvement projects we have experienced. Everyone was extremely professional, from the owner to the showroom people to the office help to the foreman and workers. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Approximately 750 sq ft of original red oak flooring was refinished and coated. Approximately 250 sq ft of linoleum flooring was removed, and replaced with premium pre-finished red oak hardwood.
