Our 5-year-old Bosch dishwasher showed an E15 error code. A two-second Google search shows that, for Bosch and many other brands, the E15 code means leakage detection. A two-minute YouTube video shows that you can remove the front panels and tip the water out for a temporary fix if the water pump is not defective and the hose connections are firm. If the pump is defective it obviously will have to be replaced. (I am oversimplifying the fixes but that's the general idea). All of this was known to me and readily available to anyone with an internet connection. I specifically mentioned the E15 code to DNE before they came out. DNE's service guy showed up WITH NO TOOLS. He advised that he had "made some research" and came up with the information described above. Then he charged me $55 for the "service call," gave me an estimate of $200 for the temporary fix and another $200 if the pump needs to be replaced. Again, this is a 5-year old machine that cost $600 new. I understand that there's a charge for any service call. However, I advised DNE of the error code in advance. There was no need for the service call in the first place if the only point was to recite information I already had, and which I had discussed in advance.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! First off, the demeanor of the person who came out to work on my stove was incredibly condescending. Seemed that any question was wasting their time. So, I needed to replace a part in order for my broiler to work. All seemed fine the day it was fixed, although it was slow to ignite. I mentioned this but was told that was the way it is. I have a tenant who moved in and hadn't used the broiler right away, and just told me it's not working. It has been 37 days since the service, and they apparently only guarantee their work for 30 days. The person on the phone told me it is most likely another part, so in order to figure this out, they would charge me another service call fee of $45. I'm curious how he knew it would be another part when the same issue was happening? How did the person who fixed it not see that there would be something else wrong with it? To me, that is so wrong and the worst customer service not to at least see if it's the same problem. And to charge another service call to just see? And, on top of it, he was incredibly rude on the phone. Great or even good customer service goes a long way. I love spreading the word when someone is kind and works with you.
Description of Work: Replaced a part so that my broiler would work on an O'keefe & Merrit stove.

About 4:30PM on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend we smelled a burnt plastic smell. Our neighbor helped us figure out that it was from the back of our Kenmore Elite Refrigerator. Upon opening up the back where the smell was coming from we saw a "Pilot light" like blue flame that then burst into fire. We shut off the power and blew out the Flame. After researching Angie's list and the internet for about an hour we finally found a Service that said that 24/7 service that could actually provide it. We were given a Window of 7-9PM and considering it was Saturday Night of the Labor day weekend, we were quite happy. At 9PM we received a call saying tell us the technician could be here about 9:20PM. He got here at 9:30. I showed him the problem that I in the meantime had diagnosed as the Relay. He looked at and showed my how the unit had short-circuited and said he had the part in his truck and would also replace some of the wiring. The technician, George, was done in about 30 minutes from the time he got here. The cost of the relay was $65 and the additional wiring and labor ended up with a total of $209.35. The tech was very professional and personable we would use their service again in a heart beat. Considering that we called about 10 services, that all claimed to do 24/7 appliance repair, and this was the only one that actually responded on a Saturday night of a long weekend, we were very pleased that they were able to respond and actually fix our refrigerator.

Called for a diagnostic service call because refrigerator was freezing food, but freezer compartment was working properly. Service call was scheduled promptly and technician arrived on time. Technician opened and closed doors. Looked inside. Slide crisper doors out and looked behind them, but preformed no actually diagnostics. He then told me I needed a new main PCB, and that he also highly recommended I replace the thermistor. He said the total cost for repair would be $469 plus tax. I said no thanks, and not wanting to get into a conflict with the technician, wrote him a check for $45. I then called the repair company and explained that the technician had come, had performed no actual diagnostics, and then told me I needed to replace the most expensive part possible, but that I should also replace the least expensive part possible. I explained that it is not possible to determine the cause of the problem without performing diagnostics using test equipment and/or the built in self-diagnostic codes and, therefore, because no diagnostic service was actually performed, I wanted them to destroy my check. The company said the the technician is very experienced, knows what he is doing, and that if that is what he said was wrong then that is what is wrong. They then said, "allow us to preform the recommended repairs and that if they did not fix the problem they would not charge me anything." I explained that the thermistor ($28 part that they wanted to charge me $48 for) was by far the most likely problem, and that since the technician wanted to replace the main board ($285) AND the thermistor, it would be likely the repair would fix the problem even though there is nothing wrong with the expensive main board; thus they are deceptively covering their guarantee. Finally, the company agreed not to cash my check, but not because the technician did nothing, only because I complained. I called Whirlpool service and inquired as to the likelihood of the main board being bad. They said it is possible but very unlikely and that if the main board were bad the freezer compartment would also not be working properly. I searched a few websites for repair advice and found a compilation of about 5 possible problems: thermistor, damper control clogged duct, clogged water filter, and main board. Thermistor was reported to be the most common cause by far. All sources indicated that the a bad main board, while possible, was uncommon. I found and bought a service manual for my model for $16 at www.servicemanuals.net. I entered the keypad control for self-diagnostic mode and found everything to be in working order. I discovered that the ice maker switch had been accidentally toggled on; however, I do not have the unit hooked up to a water source. I flipped the switch to off and, voilà, problem solved. The refrigerator compartment is no longer freezing food and the temperature is holding steady and the set level (it has been 1 week now). As for that check that the service company said they would destroy, well they cashed it. I called and they said that was a mistake and that a refund check was already in the mail to me. They then said, however, that they might send a "friend" of theirs from the better business bureau (BBB) out to confirm that I was not lying to them and that if I was I was committing fraud and would need to pay them back the $45 and have a negative mark put against my name at the BBB. He then said, I'd better tell him to cancel the check if I was lying to avoid those consequences. What a joke! And what pathetic customer service, especially over $45. I hung up on the guy and decided to let everyone on Angie's list know what kind of company they are (which I would not have taken the time and effort to do had he not threatened me and called me a liar).
Description of Work: Came for a diagnostics call on my refrigerator. Looked inside refrigerator, so essentially did nothing. Charged $45 for the call. Told me repairs would be $469 (less the $45 diagnostic call) plus tax.

Our field engineer bas been doing repair on refrigerators over 10 years and never had an issue with misdiagnostics. You claiming that he misdiagnosed the issue which is not true seems like just an excuse to get away from paying for a service call. Even though you claiming that you fixed it yourself but we confirmed with our firld engineer that the board and thermistor is not functioning correctly therefore the problem is still there and little by little your compressor will go out of order. The board is intermittent which is still causing the problem and soon you will see what we mean. Our field engineer knows how to diagnose and sometime you dont need to always open things up he knows his job and like we mentioned before if he would not fix the problem then we would not charge you. Also we told you that the refund check has been already mailed to you.
