Baez Heating & Cooling

Description of Work: When Baez Heating and Cooling installed our new heater and new ducting, the heater did its job, and everything seemed to be fine. Jose is an affable, personable fellow, and it seemed like everything was installed properly. | |It wasn't until later (June 2015) that I realized there was a leak coming from the drain line from the heater, which had gone unnoticed for several months because it was in a room being used for storage. The carpet was wet, and a desk and chair were ruined because of mold. | |When I asked Jose to fix the problem, he blamed the people who installed the drywall in the house, and yelled at my wife over the phone after she insisted he fix it. I had him reroute the drain line to the pipe normally used for the overflow pan that sits beneath the heater, for which he charged me $100. | |Afterward I checked for mold (which I should have done before having him reroute the line), and I discovered extensive black and green mold underneath the carpet and in the wall. I also saw the drain pipe was out of its joint. It was clear, however, that the pipe was installed extremely poorly because when I tried putting the pipe back in the joint, it could only go in about a quarter of an inch. This means even a modest bump from outside could have dislodged it. | |Jose didn't want to pay for any of the damage, and I ended up cleaning up the mold myself (which would have been $2,000, according to one estimate from a remediation company). When I showed him the pipe, and how it was installed incorrectly, he did fix it, and offered to pay for the carpet, but not for the drywall that needed to be replaced. | |So my feelings are mixed--the heater works, and the leak is fixed. And he did cover the carpet being replaced, but not any of the other damage that the leak caused. I suspect most of his work is good, but just not in this case.
