Description of Work: I began with a $44 Angie's List advertised special for one hour of on-site computer maintenance to try to repair a computer that had died. I placed the order on November 6 and provided the times that were convenient for me the following week. They did not call me, so I called them on November 11. We scheduled an appointment on November 16, but they did not show up for that either. We scheduled another appointment, on November 20, two weeks after my initial request. | |Chris showed up this time and determined that my motherboard had failed. He offered to build a new computer using my graphics card, processor, memory, SSD and hard drive. He helped me select a case, power supply, and mother board, and as he was leaving, he remembered that I would also need to order Windows 7, since the OEM license for my old computer was not transferable. I delivered all of those items plus my old computer to his store on December 1. The computer was supposed to be ready for pick up the next day. | |On December 5, I received a call that the old CPU did not fit into the new motherboard because it had the wrong socket. No explanation for why it took four days to notify me of this problem. I agreed to order a new CPU and CPU fan and had them delivered directly to the store. Delivery was scheduled for December 8, but was delayed twice because nobody was there to receive it until December 10. During the call to let me know that the computer was ready to be picked up, it was noticed that the fans were not working, so delivery was delayed again. When the next call came, my wife asked if the computer could be delivered to our home, since I had surgery recently. | |Finally, Tom delivered and installed the new computer on December 17, six weeks after my original request for help. Because of the delays and missteps, the fee for rebuilding the computer was reduced from $150 to $125 and I was not charged for delivery. Tom claimed that my new CPU had eight cores because it had eight processes, but I pointed out that my old CPU had four cores and eight processes, just like the new one. Not a technology guru. | |After Tom left, I noticed that I did not have a hard drive, just the SSD. Tom said he was supposed to plug in the hard drive when the computer was installed. Tom returned to plug in the hard drive. That turned out to be major task, because the cables had not been routed properly. | |After Tom left again, I noticed that the computer had not been upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as I expected, Windows 7 had not been authorized, and Tom had not returned the jacket for the Windows 7 CD with the Certificate of Authority. I called the store and learned that Tom had entered the authorization code, so I was able to complete the authorization and upgrade to Windows 10. The new computer seems to be working OK now, but I have not yet received the Certificate of Authority. | |The new computer case is 50% wider than the one it replaced, which restricts the leg room under my desk. Gamers may love a huge computer case with a huge lighted empty space visible inside the case, but this case was not a good choice for a business computer.
