Hulton Development, Inc.

We met Thomas Hulton a few years ago while he was constructing an amazing beachfront home on our street in coastal Carlsbad. He was there daily paying attention to every intricate detail on this curvy and undulating home. I was impressed by the quality and uniqueness of the completed home. He then took over construction of another house on the block. This time a state-of-the art modern 3-story ocean view work of art. The home came out stunning, with high-end finishes. We were so impressed that we even commissioned him to bid on a future home we are planning. His work was extremely thorough, on-time, and detailed as we’ve come to expect from Thomas. It is very apparent that he has a strong command of even the most complicated and demanding designs. This enables him to offer suggestions for improvement based on his extensive experience.

I do not recommend Hulton Development or Thomas Erickson as a general contractor for custom building or remodeling of residential homes. I hired Mr. Erickson with Hulton Development to do a major custom remodel of my property in Pacific Beach. Mr. Erickson assured me that he and his company had the expertise and underlying business infrastructure to successfully manage my custom remodel. We signed a fixed budget contract for a 9 month remodel. Unfortunately, during the course of my remodel, Mr. Erickson and his company repeatedly failed to demonstrate the skills and abilities that he claimed to possess. Ultimately, after more than 24 months of unsuccessful attempts to work cooperatively with this contractor, I had to fire Hulton Development for failure to comply with the terms of the contract that he signed. I am still trying to complete my project in the aftermath of this very bad experience. I consider Mr. Erickson to be either a dishonest and/or an incompetent contractor and business owner. Mr. Erickson has posted pictures of my remodel on numerous websites. This was done without my permission or approval. Mr. Erickson knew I was unhappy with his work; but thinks he can show the quality of his work in these pictures. These pictures show the skills of my architect, but do not show the extremely poor quality of Hulton Development's work. If you are seriously considering using this contractor because you like the pictures he has posted, I would be happy to give you the name of my architect, and/or share with you all the problems, mistakes, and unethical business practices that I experienced while working with Hulton Development.
