+ 0 moreHectors Gardening and Landscaping came by to give us an estimate. He was super nice,said they took all major credit cards. I added more work because they took credit cards. He showed up with his crew this morning, he asked for payment. He said since we were using a credit card, we had to pay for the whole job up front and we could only use one card. (Never mentioned that before). We told him no way (we just got burned by California Pools for paying too far in advance, lesson learned). We told him we would pay for half now, half when they are done. He said and quot;no, I don't know you people.and quot; Well we don't know him either, so we have to put all of our trust in him and he has none in us? No thanks. He got really nasty and disrespectful. Finally he said, I don't think I'm going to take a credit card with you guys. Cash or we leave. Needless to say, they left. Good riddance.
Description of Work: Was hired to do concrete work in several areas in the back yard.

+ -1 moreI have used Hector's in past and his worker did a good job in past years. But this year the workers were different and the work was completed when I was at my job and my spouse paid them without checking the results. I'm not sure how you can mow down a yard and leave so many standing foxtails! It felt like the crew just got tired in the back half of the yard. In years past Hector would stop back for his check after I viewed the job, so I think he knew this work wasn't as good. I realized after a week or two that the weed preventing spray I requested wasn't used and I ended up hiring another company to get the yard correctly mowed down before weed abatement ticketed the place. ( I will review the company that did a better job as well.)
Description of Work: Fairly basic yard clean-up. Mow down yard and trim off some trees. Spray for weeds.

+ -1 moreSaturday arrived and I went off to work. I got a text from my spouse saying the yard people were a no show. I called and left a message; I did wonder if I had misunderstood which week they were doing the job. Almost as I called the work crew arrived. As I understand it another job ran longer then planned so they were a bit behind on this day. They set right into work and quickly tamed the front yard. They took a lunch break on the porch, our pet dog liked this quiet moment. Then they did got to work and did an excellent job on the large back yard. My spouse, who never likes the work quality of yard people I have hired in the past, sent me a text at work saying their work was great. They hauled away most all of the weeds etc. as agreed. I will hire them in the future if their prices don't keep going up. Their work quality on my yard was outstanding.
Description of Work: We have a large, hard to mow yard and after the winds and winter rains it sprouts a lot of weeds each year. I wanted to get it chopped down before we heard from the code enforcement folks. I have used this company before so I called them. Hector came over and we walked the yard together. I felt the price was a bit high but he pointed out some other trash he would haul away and we came to an agreement. He began to ask I call into the office for a time but then decided he would do the job on Saturday. He said his crew would arrive between 7:00 am and 8:00am.

+ -1 moreIf you can't trust people who be straightforward from the get go, then they are not trustworthy to even have access to your property. This experience was terrible and a waste of my time
Description of Work: I called the number listed, a woman responded right away for Hector. He immediately went out to my property that same morning to give me an estimate on how much everything would run. He then called me back and quoted me $700 to do a basic clean up, and front and back yard full service. When I responded that there is no way I would pay such a high price, he went down to $450. He stated that my property was larger and that it was gonna need a lot of work. Mind you, I live in an 80s style tract house lot, on a cul de sac, hardly a farm sized lot or anything of that nature. He then proceeds to tell me he could do a few things for just under $250. I agreed that $250 would work for me for just a few things to be done. I then contacted him and his wife the next day to set up the day and time. I NEVER received a call or a text back, no response, nothing. I am not even sure why they would bother to take it this far, and then flake out. What it sounds like to me, is that they saw where I lived and they thought they could charge me top dollar for the job, when I made it clear that it was not in my range, he dangled me along for some unknown reason, and then flaked out altogether.Do not trust these people, they will quote you a high price and if you are not willing to pay it, they will never contact you again.

+ -1 moreBuyer Beware! Hector comes across as professional and honest, but he can't be trusted. The work he did was substandard to say the least.The non flowering shrubs he put in flowered months later when they matured. He buried many of the sprinkler heads when helaid the sod. I had brick caps to go on top of my cinder block retaining wall on the side of my house that I was planning to install my self. I agreed to have Hector install them, big mistake. I had the caps custom cut to fit the wall perfectly. He just glued the caps to the top of the wall with no gap between so they didn't line up with the cinder block wall bricks , nor did they cover the whole wall. It looks awful. Ridiculous!! He prepped the soil for the front and back yard way to high for sod. It appears that he prepped the soil for seed, not sod. The beginning of the roots of the sod are the same level as the top of the cement. In short, the quality was awful. He cut corners every way possible, although his price was high. He came across as professional and trust worthy, that is why I chose his company despite the high price. I regret hiring Hectors Gardening and Landscape. I will have to hire someone to fix all of these problems.Do your homework and find a quality landscaper. Hectors Gardening and Landscape is not one of them.
Description of Work: Prepped front and back yard for sod. Laid sod in back and front yard. Put shubs in front yard. Put caps on front cinder block wall.

+ -1 moreHector arrived right on time with his worker Elijah. Hector walker the worker and gave him the do list as we had agreed. Hector had to go and see about some other jobs and Elijah pitched right in. He not only mowed the open areas of the yard he even moved items to really get the grass and weeds cut down to size. He cleaned up the trimming, and took out the dead tree. His work quality was good. If anything was less then perfect it was our fault as well. Our dog can escape from the back yard; we tend to keep him out front. Every time we have workers at the house he ends up running in the alley. This time my spouse was giving him a and quot;businessand quot; break when Elijah went back to his truck for something. Sure enough dog finds an open gate and runs for the back fence. As my spouse gets in the car to drive around and Elijah jumps the back fence and helps to get our dog. I can't think of another time a worker has pitched in to that level. I have in past hired other folks for yard help and have often been less than thrilled with the work quality. As we have several other yard projects, I plan to call on Hector again.
Description of Work: I have a large yard and not much time to keep it up the way I would like. As it needed mowed and cleaned up and also we had a tree that died; I decided to call around to have someone do the job for us. I looked on Angie's list and chose Hector's as it was near our home and they had ok reviews. Hector came over right away and walked the yard with me. I liked his demeanor and personality and the price was good for the work we needed done. He even arranged to do the job the following day for us.

+ -1 moreThey promised to do the mowing, plant trimming, weeding and, generally, make my front and back yard look nice. This was the case for a few weeks, after which, the service turned into the typical “blow and go” service. Plants died, including a tree, at the side yard (I found later that the sprinkler was not working), crab grass grew on my lawn and a sprinkler line sprung an underground leak, forming a muddy area around the sprinkler valves. But none of these problems and issues were brought to my attention nor any solutions proposed to fix the situation. I had the chance, one day, to see how they worked. They literally spent 10 minutes on my yards. Dead leaves were just blown around the yard and were barely raked and disposed of. I’ve yet to find a gardener who will actually do the work as promised without it turning into a “blow and go” service.
Description of Work: I hired Hector’s Gardening & Landscape to do weekly gardening.

+ -1 moreThey are very good. They mow our lawn and weed it. They are absolutely fantastic. They always go above and beyond. On their last visit they did the basic mowing and edging. They cleaned the patio. They trimmed an overgrown rose bush, one of the hibiscus bushes and the bougainvillea bushes in the backyard. We have a hill that goes down back of the fruit trees. They keep it weed free. The garden looks good when they are done. They do whatever needs to be done. Their price is fantastic. They are very professional.
Description of Work: Hector's Gardening & Landscape are our garden people. They come every Friday. They came last Friday.
