I heard about an attic insulation product from Costco.com called E-Shield an submitted an inquiry. K-Designers is the AZ area contractor they use for this product. I saw the literature and wanted some more information about it. The first guy came out to my house and said he had to go up in the attic to assess things. A few minutes later he came down, said he forgot his sales information, apologized and said he would come back the following Monday to give me the information I requested. Never saw him again. A few days later K-Designers called and asked if I got the information I needed, and I told them what happened. They said they would take care of it and make it up to me. A few days later a guy name Rob called and tried to make an appointment. Rob didn't know anything about the first guy, so I was wondering what K-Designers was thinking about when they said they would make it up to me. Rob came out and gave an extremely high pressure, dishonest presentation about the value of the product. After 4 hours (seriously) he told me he could install the E-shield and blow some insulation into the attic for $13500. We told him to get lost but he wouldn't leave, dropped his price to $9500 . Again we told him to leave and he finally got the price down to about $7900, of which $2500 was for blown in insulation. I guess I must have been beat because we signed a contract. The next day, after thinking about it and doing a little research, I found out the E-shield product was not worth the money and the blown in insulation could be done for a fraction of the price, so I canceled the contract. The branch manager then tried to tell me he could get the price even lower and would call back. He left a message which I didn't return. However, Rob called later that night claiming he left a tool at my house and wanted to know if I found it, and then of course he went right back into his sales pitch. Click, I hung up. I had a more reputable contractor come out a couple days later and they quoted $700 for higher R-value of blown in insulation than what K-designers were willing to do for $2500. This company is the classic dishonest, high pressure ripoff outfit that makes us all need a website like Angies List.
Description of Work: I got a high pressure quote for attic insulation and was told that the sales rep was able give me a retail quote, or a special super-duper advertising deal that was only available if we signed a contract on the spot. Typical scam.
