Project went smoothly. Even with a cracked shower pan, they were able to make up time. Everyone who worked on bathroom from project manager to the guys who did the work Were very professional.
Description of Work: Gutted and updated two bathrooms including tile, tub, toilets and new Shower stall, fixtures, vanities, closets.
The whole project went very smoothly. I had a list of jobs to be done each day and they were done on time, professionally and with wonderful attention to detail. Everyone I dealt with from sub-contractors, project manager, designer to workmen were professional, competent and friendly. When they left at the end of the day all the mess was cleaned up! I have nothing but praise for the job they did, I now have a brand-new, wonderful bathroom which I will enjoy for a long time. I felt they listened to me, my concerns and answered all my questions. I had little experience picking out tubs, toilets, etc and they were very helpful and patient while I went through and made decisions. Their showroom is a big help because you can see bathrooms in different styles. I'm very visual so this was a huge plus for me. I am shocked at how smoothly the whole thing went and will use them again. Oh, and did I mention they finished on time?

This company was very professional. I felt they were legitimate and by the book. They laid everything out in a contract from the beginning, and they never hassled me if I wanted to change anything. I appreciated the degree of customer care I received. They were really really good.

The job went fine outside of damage to my wall mounted microwave for which I had to replace a $50 part. Although these guys are very pricey. I had hoped that I was getting a high quality experience for the money I was spending. I'm most disappointed in the fact that they failed to tell me I would be losing counter space in my already small kitchen with the remodel by putting in a double versus single sink which I don't need as much as counter space. I'd prefer to have my old kitchen, additional counter space and 15K that I spent on the kitchen honestly.

Mary was able to answer all my questions efficiently and professionally! She went so far as to contact one of her workers off site and call me back with the information I needed. I unfortunately did not get in contact with this company prior to the start of my remodel but i highly recommend looking into using this company.
Description of Work: I was having trouble with my current contractor and needed some advice from another source. This company took the time to answer all the questions I had regarding a bathroom remodel.

Great! We had been through a kitchen remodel in the early 2000s, during the height of the remodel boom. At that time we went weeks without anything happening in our kitchen and no clue as to when the workers would return. Remodel Works gave us a day-by-day schedule, ahead of time, to let us know what would be done; on what day; and by whom...so we always knew who would be in our house. And they ab-so-lute-ly stuck to the schedule. We were amazed since our previous remodel experience had been so difficult. The workers in our home were terrific. Personable and obviously very proud of their work. We only had one issue with the placement of our glass shower door (seemed a little 'askew'). The project manager came out; took a look; agreed; and made arrangements within days to have it fixed. We would recommend this company without reservations. Be sure to talk to Mary Jennings, our project designer. She did a 'fantabulous' job of taking everything we knew we wanted and making it work in both bathrooms. OK - gave a 'B' on price but only because I didn't want anyone to think there was some fantasy price-point here. You will pay an absolutely fair and reasonable price for the excellent work and product you will receive.
Description of Work: Complete gut and remodel of our 2 (rather small) bathrooms. No walls were moved but bathrooms hadn't been updated since the house was built in early '40s. Required lots of plumbing, tile and electrical work.

Remodel presents very well. Initial contact with Remodel was always professional and they listened very well to our needs. They were open on best strategies to reduce cost and I feel they genuinely worked to reduce our costs knowing we had a tight budget for the size of our project. They were prompt and thorough in their estimate and when we decided to move forward they were even more thorough in determining all aspects of the project. Remodel also put us in contact with GGR who took care of all exterior wall renovations, roofing and demo work, who (in a separate review) are a fantastic company to work with. After this, Remodel had both highs and lows. There was an initial miscommunication that we, as clients, initiated to resolve and had it not been for the professionalism of GGR's representative, it may have spiraled into something more negative. Nevertheless, work started and went very well to start. The bathroom reno was completed promptly and on schedule (despite a minor error in the tiling that didn't match plans). All recommendations from Remodel were good ones and made the best use of our small space. The kitchen was a different story. While our project manager continued to be a good manager of our project and fine to work with, the cabinet installer on the project was not as professional or diligent as some of their (or GGR's) other staff. Combine this with errors three times from their sub-contracted cabinet maker that pushed back completion 3 months after the expected completion date and we were frustrated (as was our project manager). We had to very thoroughly inspect a lot of the detail work that was completed by the less-than-professional cabinet installer who appeared to cut corners and be rough with some of the cabinets. That all said, I don't doubt we had an unfortunate experience. Wherever we held Remodel accountable to an error, they stood by it and made an effort to rectify it. They worked to appease us by offering a meal giftcard and installing a piece of equipment for me that was out of their scope free of charge. Due to the ineptitude of their cabinet maker, they also discounted their work. My advice is to check who they are using on your project as a cabinet maker (make sure it isn't the one from our job!) and if you are unhappy with one of your workers, don't be afraid to tell you project manager. That was our mistake for waiting until the end to share our thoughts on his work. While I don't doubt Remodel has done excellent work for many people, I think we may have been one of the unlucky few who had a mediocre experience.

We visited their showroom and selected new 12 in x 17 in "fired" tile for shower walls and ceiling and counter-top-basin-bowl material - both beautiful material and beautifully installed. "Obligatory" floor tile was 2 in x 2 in fired tile. Not pleased with installation of floor tile. Was concerned that rough floor was very uneven and would affect "lay" of tile and assumed uneven lay would be smoothed when tile was placed. Not so. Tile was placed on uneven subfloor and attention to even spacing of tile was sloppy. Not pleased with groutting. Spacing between tiles too deep - means more trouble with bacteria and stains. Alignment of heavy glass walls and glass door could have been better. Given expertise of company, would have expected their team would have means to align and attach heavy doors - not an easy task, I realise. In today's world shower "pans" are made of elastomeric material - far superior to old method. My system is a Schluter(sp) product - excllent except for one element. Their system includes no method to capture hair - all goes down the drain, which beggs for the plumber sometime down the line. I contacted Schluter and discussed with them. They said that they tried some solutions and gave up because none of them worked. I came up with a solution but they could do better - very disappointed.
Description of Work: Completely dismantled and removed a downstairs 4 ft x 8 ft shower and two-basin countertop. Roughed-in and reinstalled new shower area and two-basin countertop.

After the initial visit from the "designer" salesman, I was encouraged by his credentials as the former owner of a defunct but recognized kitchen remodeler. He provided a rough verbal estimate of $50,000, and stated the he could design a kitchen for $1,000, at which time we signed a contract. I was shown cabinetry in their advertised "12,000 sq ft showroom". It was more like 2,000 sq ft plus 10,000 sq ft of office and warehouse area. The plans were separate for the bathroom and the kitchen. After the contract was signed, I had to personally draw up the house plans and plot the house on the property for the City of La Mesa as part of the permit process, as it was not included in the original bid. Additionally, at the cost of several hundred dollars, I had to hire an outside plumber, to evaluate whether or not a sewer "back flow prevention device" was needed for my home, even though it was the last home on the top of a hillside cul de sac. Once this was accomplished, I was given a "preview" of the 2 separate sets of plans (one for the bath and one for the kitchen), even though they had a common wall. During this "preview" we discussed the cabinetry selection as well as the types of materials used. When I learned that a low quality garbage disposal was being used, I looked into the cabinetry and other items and discovered they were mediocre in quality. The project superintendent then came out to the house and went over the project with me. He indicated there may be an additional cost for another electrical circuit that was "needed" in the kitchen, as "building codes" would require a separate circuit if their were more than 4 outlets on 1-15amp circuit in the kitchen, they actually installed 5. (Strangely enough, upon final inspection, I spoke with the building inspector, who expressed that 3 "probably" could have sufficed). Having been stunned by a cost over-run, low quality disposal and mediocre cabinetry, I asked to speak with the owner. I wanted to back out of the contract. The owner made concessions about the garbage disposal and stated that he would include the upgraded backsplash for the kitchen. The project did not include flooring, counter tops, or appliances. The owner stated that if I pulled out of the contract, under California Law, I was responsible to him for his loss of about $11,000 of profit on the project. At this point, I felt compelled to continue with the project. During the various phases, a question came up, regarding connecting the new lighting and electrical to the main panel, which had to be newly installed for a solar system that was also being installed. The electrical sub-contractor apparently did not bid the job for complete wiring to the electrical panel, and another cost over-run was incurred. (I can not understand, bidding a job for kitchen and bath remodel and NOT include the costs for connecting the electrical to the main panel!!!) Remodel Works rebuttal was that it was a cost of meeting the building codes required by the City. (My questionable thought on this type of response, is: Would Remodel Works have built the project some other way???). I had one change order, which I felt was justified. This change order was for additional cabinetry behind the kitchen "island sink" to replace the lost storage space that occurred when the ceiling hanging cabinets between the kitchen and family room were removed. This change cost an additional $6,000 and included changing the size of an adjacent glass wall cabinet as suggested by the designer. Unfortunately, access to the glass wall cabinet is next to impossible without getting a step stool or ladder and actually climbing onto the kitchen sink and eating counter. The cabinet doors do not open enough for access. I was able to supplement this cost by not replacing the bath tub and surround or installing the tile floor. I was able to find another contractor to install an acrylic tub and surround at a much lower cost. I have to commend Remodel Works on their timing and ability to get their work done expediently, on time and relatively neatly. TOTAL COST OF THE PROJECT not including the bath tub and surround, flooring, appliances, counter tops, and electrical connection to the main panel was about $312.50 per square foot.
Description of Work: Remodel kitchen and bathroom, approximately 192 sq ft and a city building permit. The work involved knocking out a 3'x4' closet to make more counter space in the kitchen and adjoining bathroom. Widen a 26" door to a standard 30" pocket door in the bathroom. Install new lighting in a very dark kitchen. Remove existing cabinets in kitchen and bath and install new cabinets with back splash. Provide new garbage disposal and faucet in the kitchen. Provide 2 new bath sinks, faucets and toilet. I was required to purchase my own granite counter tops in the kitchen and bathroom, as well as a kitchen sink. Flooring was to be provided in the bathroom as well as a new tub and tub surround. New lighting in the kitchen and bathroom as well as a new bath vent. Re-plumb the existing sink drains in the walls of the bathroom and kitchen.

The kitchen designer was outstanding and solved all the problems we wanted fixed, with a completely new layout. He was completely right about how the layout would work out in practice. I love love love my new kitchen! The designer did fail to discuss lighting alternatives. Once the work was complete, we were very unhappy with the overhead lights. My suspicion is that he was trying to keep the cost down, and in fairness, I did not express any interest in the details of the lights during the design phase. But when we saw bare fluorescent bulbs, we felt they were completely unacceptable and had them replaced with LEDs. We really doubted that anyone would want those lights, unless they were just trying to do as cheap a job as possible within the constraints of current energy-use regulations, like for a flip or a rental, so we were unhappy that we had to pay for light installation twice instead of just buying better lights in the first place. The company is absolutely committed to staying on schedule. One of the reasons I chose them was that I thought they would offer minimal hassle and I absolutely believe they provided that. A kitchen remodel is an enormous pain but I cannot imagine that this much work could get done with any less headache. There were some mistakes and some problems, but we never doubted the project manager's commitment to "make it right." I felt they could improve their oversight of subcontractors and their internal warehouse operations. Also, it seemed that some requests would "fall through the cracks" if I did not continue to follow up myself. I think most of that is because they stay really busy because their reputation keeps them in demand. And they definitely work on improving their processes so whatever mistakes I saw aren't likely to happen again. Their employees are professional, careful, and extremely polite. They all show the same commitment to doing a good job. I will use them again for a bathroom remodel when I get around to it.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel, extensive work. Gutted the kitchen, moved appliance locations, expanded/replaced a window. As follow-on, replaced door and window in adjacent dining room.

He was wonderful. I highly recommend him. We didn't even know there was construction going on in our home. He was on time with every aspect of the project.
The project did start late by a few days and ended 2 weeks beyond expected date. The workers were extremely professional and did an excellent job. The project manager was responsive and kept me informed. The overall job looked beautiful and was exactly what I was looking for at the end.
Description of Work: Remodel and upgrade of master bathroom. Removed large oval bathtub and created high end shower with built in shelves, 4 body sprays, large mounted shower head and handheld shower. Stained cabinets, installed new granite countertops, new tile in shower enclosure along with custom glass. Installed new sinks, custom vanity shelf, medicine cabinet, mirrors, light fixtures and painting.

It was a professional job start to finish. They completed everything on time for each job. They gutted the bathrooms; it was a total remodel. I found them in the Angie's List book. I had been wanting to go to their showroom to see what services they offered. The young lady working the showroom that Saturday was very informative. I got an idea of the company philosophy and based on my interaction with her I made the decision to meet with Mary, their bathroom designer. Mary came out to look at the bathrooms and she took measurements. She got my ideas of what I wanted and came up with an initial plan. Once I agreed to the estimates and plans, we began selecting cabinets, tiles, color of paint, fixtures etc. from their showroom. Prior to each job, I met with Lance, the project manager, prior to ordering all of the supplies needed to complete each job. He came in and we went over what we were ordering and the schedule of what they would be doing each day. He had a keen eye as to what could done and the best way to get things done efficiently. They kept to the schedule. They were so thorough that they even found a problem that I didn't know existed. It was a leak in the existing plumbing and although it an additional cost to fix, it was absolutely essential that it be repaired. The problem was handled quickly and efficiently and they were still able to complete the first job on time. There were several people who worked on the all 3 jobs, each with his/her own area of expertise and talent. They were all very good at what they do like Nick who worked all three jobs and was involved in the day to day "hands-on" remodeling. At the completion of each job, I met with the Lance, the project manager, to make sure the jobs were complete and things were left in order. All the bathrooms are like night and day. The show room attendant and planner had good suggestions such as safety features that would be helpful in my old age. I appreciated the great communication and helpful advice. They were very meticulous with their clean up each day. They were so thorough in their clean up, once they completed a job its as they were never there. I am very please with all 3 bathroom remodels. I received high quality workmanship that will last a lifetime.
Description of Work: They remodeled two complete bathrooms and a half bath. The linen cabinets that were close to the bathrooms were included in the remodel and they also did the entry tile by the half bath.

The work turned out well. I was not pleased with some of the subcontractors, but Remodel Works was professional, polite and helpful in resolving the issues. I purchased the materials through them. The job took 4 weeks off and on to complete. During the work, they did keep me informed of their progress. The job pretty much ended up the way we wanted. They are currently working to fix some small issues we have. I would give them a B+

The work turned out great! The quality of the workmanship and professionalism of the design and installation team was fantastic from start to finish. I had an idea of what I wanted and they took my idea and showed me what they could do to improve my ideas. They have a wide variety of products to choose from. They waited for all of the materials to be ready before installation and only took 4 workdays Monday-Thursday. They also cleaned up every day. They worked with my schedule too. A supervisor came out once the work was done to make sure everything was done properly and to my satisfaction. The bathroom looks great! I have no recommendations for improvement and am looking forward to working with them in the future.
Description of Work: They replaced the mirrors, vanity, sinks, replaced plumbing fixtures under the sink, removed the lights, and moved an electrical outlet in the master bathroom. I am having them out again to do the guest bathroom in 2014.

I visited the Remodel Works showroom at 3:00pm on 11/5/13. I did not have an appointment, but I am starting a master bath remodel and was excited about visiting with them based upon Angie's List reviews. I was greeted by a receptionist who got a designer from the back rooms. He introduced himself as John, and his first question after seeing my bathroom drawing was, "how much is your budget?" I have JUST started the bidding process, and since little plumbing needs moving, and only one small wall needing removal, I had estimated around 25,000-30,000. This is a facelift job. John looked back at me dismissively and shook his head in a "no" motion. Needless to say, I was embarrassed that 25,000 dollars was not worth his time. He did go in the back room to consult with the "bathroom expert" and said it would be at least 38,000 to 40,000 dollars with only standard grade features How can someone come up with this number without even looking at the room ? I definitely got the feeling that I was small potatoes and not worth any more of his time. He did not offer to come out, seemed reluctant to interact with me further, or explain why and break down the numbers. Aloof and disinterested is not someone I care to do business with....disappointed. Unless you have 40,000 dollars to spend on a basic bathroom renovation - don't even bother with Remodel Works.

Response from Remodel Works Bath & Kitchen
Thank you for your review. Remodel Works Bath & Kitchen appreciates our customers’ feedback. We apologize for the experience you had in our showroom. We have spoken to the designer and made him aware of his actions. Our #1 philosophy at Remodel Works is to treat every customer just as we wish to be treated ourselves. Therefore, it is never our intent to come off as devaluing our clients. However, sometimes the scope of the project and the budget don’t make us a fit and we try to convey that as diplomatically as possible. From the tone of your review there is no doubt that the situation could have been handled better and for that we apologize. We would love nothing more than to be everyone’s contractor for every home improvement project. Because of the email that you sent to us prior to your review our General Manager contacted you and offered to help in any way possible, even if that means helping find another reputable company that could accommodate her project. We are happy to report that after the conversation with the General Manager that an appointment has been set and it is our sincere hope that when all is said and done that Remodel Works will be everything [removed members name] hoped we would be. They did a wonderful job. Everything looks beautiful compared to the way it looked. The designer, John, understood my vision and was able to bring it to life. Now, I have a very modern kitchen. The project manager was great to work with as well. He name was Gary. He was very professional, accommodating and readily available for any questions or concerns.
Description of Work: They did complete remodel of my kitchen.
They have always been great. The designer-Mary, project manager-Pat and I sit down and design together. My favorite techs are Brett and Nick. These are the people I specifically request for each job. You sit down and have a meeting with Mary. She will come out and take measurements and go over what you are looking for. She will then write up a proposal. You go out to her and look over the showroom and contract. When Pat comes out once the contract is signed and he will remeasure before the work starts. He oversees the project and workers every day. He makes sure the job is done and done correctly. The work itself is very high quality. They will do everything you need for a complete remodel, flooring, tile, electric, plumbing, cabinets, you name it. What you are looking for in a remodel, they will do their best to make it happen. They will get the needed permits and everything you need to have to work done. We have a great relationship with them. Everyone including the technicians is very good and easy to work with. They are readily available to address and questions or concerns with their work and they will fix it right away if you are not satisfied. We enjoy working with them because they are very honest, conscientious, and have a positive attitude. Their pricing is also reasonable and they are willing to work with you on the pricing as well. If it is a bigger job, like the kitchen remodel, they will hire subcontractors that have done with them before. And they do excellent.
Description of Work: I had three bathrooms remodeled by them in the past. I also had a kitchen remodeled.
They were an outstanding company to work with. They were one of the best companies I have work with. I was delighted with the whole process. They assisted me design and choose what I wanted to have done. I worked with their designer and that was a very positive experience. Once I knew what I wanted, they gave me a price and they stuck to it. Once I signed the contract, they made up a detailed, day-by-day schedule of what work was going to be done each day and who was going to work. They stuck to the schedule and got the work done within 2 weeks. Throughout the work, they kept me updated on their progress. It is quite amazing they could make a schedule and stick to it. From my point of view, there is nothing they could improve on as a company. I am just delighted with the work done. I would absolutely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I hired them to completely remodel my master bath, which is really two rooms. This included putting in the tile floor, completely redid the two vanities, sinks, countertops, cabinets, mirrors, and lights. Both rooms were also painted.

They organized everything, they were always on time, highly professional, and really nice guys. They worked with me to produce a design for my kitchen and get all the equipment. The project manager was great about everything.

Remodel Works were good. I mean, we went to their showroom and checked everything out. The vanity was well, I don't know if it would qualify as custom, you pick the kind that you want, you pick the finish and the wood, it wasn't just there already. I was able to put the drawers on the side that I wanted. They recommended the toto drake toilet and that has been great. And you know, all of the work was done well and the scheduling was good.
Description of Work: We had some work done in our hall bathroom. They installed new flooring, new toilet, new vanity, new sink top and faucet. They installed a new curved shower rod for us.
