I got estimates from a few different people. They were competitive in price and I felt comfortable working with them. They worked me on the design aspect. Richard, Bob and Marcellino were great to work with and they did a fantastic job. I am very pleased with the results. Excellent work.

It went very smoothly. The crew were excellent to work with- and we ended on time!

When we set out to find a landscaping company we interviewed and requested bids from five companies, what set California Smartscape apart was their attitude their willingness to work with our budget and their overall vision, we gave them our thoughts and ideas and they took it to the next level. From the beginning Andrew and team Francisco were professional, friendly and clean. Andrew and Francisco always took the time to listen and followed through when I wanted to move or change things around. The end result is more beautiful than we imagined we are proud to have the best yard in the neighborhood, people are always stopping to look and even take pictures, now that the plants are growing there are bursts of color everywhere it is spectacular and has promoted our neighbors to spruce up their yards. I would recommend California Smartscape to all my family and friends.

We called about 6 landscapers to give us a bid on the job, and in the end selected Jay and California Smartscape. The decision was not just based on the competitive price they gave us but the overall effort and responsiveness of the initial consultations. We asked him to come back three sperate times to discuss the proposed job and without fail he was there, on time, and willing to answer every single question we had. When we gave him the green light and scetched out the final plans, they started right away. Each day the crew was here first thing in the morning, and every step of the project we were suprised by the speed and quality of their work. Bob took time almost every morning we saw him to discuss the project plan and modify the design if we had last minute changes. They finished the job on schedule and within the original budget. I will admit, in the beginning we had a hard time envisioning their final plan for some aspects of the job, but in the end and it all came out perfectly. We are very happy with our new backyard and now spend time by the fireplace weekly. We have even asked Jay to come back and work with us on the front yard.

This project went very well. All appointments made were kept on time. We explained our desires for the job, and working with the designer we exceeded our expectations. The construction process went smoothly with only a slight delay due to bad weather. Jay did a great job overseeing all facets of the construction. He handled the detail work that you don't see at the finished product level, but is extremely important for a project. the lighting, irrigation, drainage was all thought out ahead of time so problems didn't arise later. Bob handled the hardscape, concrete, stonework and finishing. We were very pleased with the quality of work. As the project progressed we did make a few revisions. These were handled smoothly with no major impacts. Overall we would (and have) highly recommend California Smartscape.

California Smartscape is truly fantastic! From start to finish they were extremely professional in every sense of the word. We were in serious need of a creative mind to help us achieve our front and backyard. We have 2 young children and a dog, and we also like to entertain our friends and family. So the idea was to come up with an environment that could achieve all of these and maximize the usable space that both adults and our children could enjoy. We first met Richard at the Home Show. About a week later he and Andrew came out to view the property. They both asked the right questions and listened to our needs and concerns. I'm a strong believer in first impressions and ?my gut feeling.? By the end of the meeting I was pretty much sold on them as individuals. All they had to do now was provide us with an amazing plan and stay within our budget. About 2 weeks later Andrew returned for a design review where he exceeded our expectations, and honestly, blew us away. We made some suggestions and minor modifications. About a week later we had a done deal. They assisted us through the HOA process and got started about 5 weeks later once it was approved. The only hang up in the whole project was that the plans had to be adjusted with HOA because they wanted a specific type of Synthetic turf. And the Cal Smartscape boys handled it right away. As for the construction process we mostly dealt with Jay and Bob. Jay who oversaw the entire project from start to finish was completely professional, fair and easy to work with. The mason Bob who managed the build of the outdoor kitchen, bbq and fire pit along with the flagstone, walls and concrete was interesting and very knowledgeable. Francisco who managed the landscaping, synthetic turf and lighting was friendly and great to work with. These guys all earned every bit of their money. Overall, the project looks great. We are proud to show it off and eager to entertain our guests.

In a word, excellent! We couldn't have been more satisfied with the way this company and it's employees handled themselves. California Smartscape has it dialed in! Richard made me and my wife feel very comfortable with the process from it's inception while guiding us through the process. Andrew, the landscape designer, then came out and had an uncanny means of translating our vision into reality. In fact, the end result far exceeded our wildest imagination! In terms of day to day operations, Jay and Bob took care of overseeing the project and couldn't have been more professional or easier to work with. As with any constuction project, there were minor unforseen obstacles but Jay and Bob were always one step ahead ensuring that we finished ahead of schedule by adapting and overcoming each step of the way. We can't thank California Smartscape enough for all their hardwork, vision and professionalism. We have the most beautiful back yard and driveway in the neighborhood and it has really been great for our family, friends and neighbors to enjoy here in sunny san diego!

Overall, Jay from California Smartscape was great to work with, and assembled an outstanding crew. The crew was on time, hard-working, and left us with great results - esp. Marcello, who did a majority of the flagstone patio/porch - amazing stonework! Bob, who built the pergola and oversaw the driveway construction was also outstanding - good project management, humorous, and knew what had to be done while delivering great customer service. Javier and his crew did a great job with the demolition, trenching, irrigation system, and planting. A disappointment was Andrew, who was in charge of the soft-scape. He did a fine job with the initial "sale" to us, and provided a good roughed out initial landscape design with dry river-bed concept that we liked. He also knows his plants well and has a positive, upbeat attitude. However, he did not adequately provide a detailed plant installation guide until prompted by Jay. More concerning though, he way over-planted our yard based on the specific plants he selected for our project and how big those plants get in time. We ended up giving away over (20) 5-gallon plants to Habitat for Humanity after consulting with a 20 year seasoned pro gardener/ landscaper (that cost us extra for their time, plus at ~$20/plant, we paid for plants we didn't need & couldn't use). Andrew's intentions are great, and he has good creative ideas, but is not as good at project management or the execution of the "vision" from a practical standpoint. Overall, we'd love to give this company an "A" grade for overall experience - they strived to deliver most of the project and meet expectations - however, we felt we had to get far more involved in project management and coordination of work efforts than we were led to believe for the high fee we were paying, and had to do a significant amount of work on our time to fine-tune the finished landscaping (soft-scape) - hence our "B" grade. This is still a very good landscape company to work with though! The quality of the hardscape is extremely good!
