Excellent install and no problems over the past two years. System is working well and producing power in excess of initial expectations.
Description of Work: Installed 28 solar panels on my roof in May 2015. The panels have individual inverters. I chose Solar World panels but about 5 options were available.

The system, that was installed, did not provide enough solar energy to reduce my bill significantly enough to cover the cost to have it installed or to create a $0 balance. Now the company is claiming that we should have bought more panels, which is outrageous because before the job was started they told us that we had purchased enough. We are really unhappy with the outcome of the solar panel performance and it was a very costly job that has failed us.

I think their pricing was fair. They seemed like a good company and made sure everything was done right. When it first started going on, I noticed it wasn't quite right so I called them up and they corrected it right away. They were always very responsive.

Pros: This company cares about customers, that was obvious from the start of the bidding to completion of construction. Because I had a friend who had significant leaking after solar installation by another company, I hired a roofing contractor to inspect the roof mid-installation (after the brackets, but before the panels). The roofer said YES did a quality job, everything was done "right". The Oakland building inspector said the same thing. And, my house stayed dry throughout the heavy storms in early March. Pleasant and professional installers, lead by Fabio. (sp?) He was very patient with me as I asked questions and requested modification to the subpanel conduit. Competitive pricing: I got prices from five contractors, but I wanted LG panels and YES was one of only two contractors who had extensive experience with LG. One other contractor would install LGs, but had little experience, two other contractors only installed other panels. YES's cash price was the best of overall. I worked first with Skip Woodward and finished with Dan Sisca in defining and pricing my requirements; both gentlemen were easy to work with and wanted to please. Minor Cons which don't lower score (there are no major cons): Online contract-signing process was pretty slow. The original contract was, as one might expect, rather one-sided in favor of contractor. Dan worked with me to make changes and has told me that is under review for their newer contracts. NEM application took business 4 days to submit rather than the promised “within 2 business days of your solar installation passing final inspection by the Building Department” and seemed to happen only after my prodding on day 3. On the positive note, PG&E turned on Net Metering within 4 days of the application, rather than the expected 10-15 days. So, no harm, no foul. While I appreciated having a chance to review the location of the panels and I had them moved for access reasons, I wish I had a chance to see the schematic of where the conduit would go as I’d have made a modification that would have made the roof easier to walk. And similarly with the new subpanel, the electrical contractor asked me where the outside box would go and Favio asked where the inside box should go, but the inside conduit ended up not as "neat" as I would have liked. Overall, this contractor really cared about customer service and worked to make everything right. My solar system is working perfectly going into it's third month now. I am a very meticulous client, and I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: I had a 3.5kW solar system installed in the Oakland Hills in February, 2016 which consisted of eleven LG 315N1C panels with Enphase S280 micro inverters. A new subpanel was required ($1500 extra included in total cost above).

I was very impressed by the whole pre-sale experience as our sales consultant Daniel Sisca exchanged countless emails and phone calls with me to discuss all the various options for system sizes, solar panels, and inverters. He offered his recommendations, But didn't push back too hard when I chose a different option than he initially recommended (e.g., choosing SolarEdge over Enphase). Once we signed a contract the whole installation process went smoothly overall. There were a couple communication hiccups, but nothing major and in fact one of them involved the workers showing up to start installation a week earlier than we were expecting because our project coordinator was on vacation and no one else called in his place to let us know about a schedule change. This turned out to be a good thing since otherwise our installation probably would've been delayed by rain. The installation took two days and the crew was very professional and cleaned up well when it was done. The foreman was back two days later to meet the city inspector and we received our permit without issue. PGE granted their permission to operate just over a week later. We're now about 19 days since the installation and the new system has generated just over 200 kWh of electricity. So far, so good! I'd absolutely recommend your energy solutions to anyone considering the installation of a residential solar system.

I made first contact with the company in February and Jim Gitas was VERY informative and knowledgeable. He answered all my questions and helped design and size a system that would work to get me to a net zero electric bill. The big challenge was a very large tree in the back yard that significantly reduced the viability of my south-facing (normally most productive) roof. Using shading data gathered on site, we ended up with a design that spread the 24 panels over 5 roof sections that would produce the most power possible. I believe that Jim Gitas is one of the most knowledgeable guys in the solar business in the bay area. I started on this journey after someone else came to my door and wanted to put all the panels on my south-facing roof that was shaded by the big tree. A friend who had gotten a ridiculous number of bids for his project recommended Jim. The system uses 24 SolarWorld 280-W Mono Black panels paired with 24 Enphase M250 micro-inverters and an Enphase Envoy Monitoring Module. With the monitoring module, I can see current and historical production data from a web browser. For the most part, everything went smoothly, but with two exceptions: 1) I lost contact with Jim for a few months before we got a contract worked out. He seemed to be a VERY busy guy and at one point he stopped answering my emails. After a visit to his office one day when I was in the area, things got back on track. I signed the contract on May 28 and the install was performed on July 23 and 24. 2) After final inspection, I went on the roof to check the install for myself and found my cedar shake roof had either cracked or missing shingles in about 6 or 8 places surrounding the installation sites. Customer support was very responsive, but after several attempts to get it right, it finally took me meeting the tech on the roof and pointing out all the places I thought needed repairs.

We contracted for installation of a solar-powered attic fan. The installation proved to be problematic (we have a very steep roof and a special ladder is needed). The company obtained the ladder and re-scheduled the installation. Everything went smoothly. The customer service is exemplary---I am hearing-impaired and prefer email to phone. They complied with this and were very responsive to all my queries. I will not hesitate to use this company again.

UPDATE as of 9/24/2015 So now that all is said and done at the job is complete. After the initial list problems and initial posting, Lou bent over backward to make sure I got everything I contracted to get. He followed up with me regularly to make sure everything was moving along, and would call after the contractors completed for the day to see if I had any issues. I gave him a number of recommendations on how I thought my project could have been run better and started to see those changes before my project was completed. I had always been happy with the contractors working on my job, and anyone else I'd talk to on the phone was always very quick to get back to me and do their best to respond to my needs. I am amending my rating to align with the improvements they made in communicating with me and keeping the job moving along. ORIGINAL POST Sales process was great, but the communication afterwards was absolutely pitiful. There were a few follow-up emails and then everything went to pot. I had Y.E.S. do Solar panels, service panel upgrade, whole house fan, solar attic fans and radiant barrier. No one ever explained to me that some of these tasks were going to sub-contractors. So when people started calling to schedule appointments, it was awhile before I realized I was talking to different companies. The first appointment for the installation of the fans was scheduled for a Monday, and then they called and said they couldn?t do Monday but they could do that Sunday, so I left a voicemail saying that would be fine. I came back from vacation early to be there for the Sunday install and no one showed up. I had another appointment for a solar panels for that Tuesday, come Tuesday no-one ever showed up for that. Turns out these were all miscommunications. So, now I?m furious. Everyone I?ve talked to has been accommodating and apologetic, I was told the CEO would call me and try to make things right. I also asked questions and learned how the whole process was going to work, which parts of the job subcontractors were working on and how the whole service panel upgrade would work between the electrician, the city and PG&E. There should have been one project manager who explained all this to me from the beginning. Later I get an email from another employee saying she has notes in the file to make sure I am notified of all scheduling activities. A week later I replied to that email, asking if there were any updates to my scheduling. No response. The following morning my power goes off. I go outside and see the PG&E guy and an electrician. I asked them if this was a scheduled outage, they said yes. I asked them if it was an outage for my service panel upgrade, they said yes. SO, my service panel upgrade, which ended up being nearly a 7 hour power outage thanks to the city inspector. Was scheduled and I was never informed. NOT a happy camper. I called and complained again. A day or so later I did get a call from someone higher up in the company, who offered to upgrade my solar panels at no additional cost. This was a decent attempt to placate me, but I declined because what they were offering was from a different manufacturer, and I had been sold on the panels I chose because they were designed better, and was told they had better output. My solar install was scheduled for 2 days. The first day went without a hitch. The second day, the guys ran some wire and then waited for word on the solar panels. Turns out my panels and some other equipment got sent to the wrong location. So the rest of that install will need to be rescheduled. The next day my whole house fan, radiant barrier, and attic fan installation was scheduled. When the contractor shows up I find out he doesn?t install radiant barrier and isn?t sure why that was on his list. Then he comes back from a trip to my attic and tells me the fan I was sold will not fit because of the way my attic is designed. As I am writing this review, my installations have not been completed. Anyone I talk to at this company is nice enough, but all of these screw ups and poor communication is absolutely unbelievable. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. This just is my experience and maybe I?m that one super unlucky customer, but considering all that has gone wrong so far, I cannot recommend this company. It?s just not worth the headaches. If it is possible I will update this review after everything is completed. There?s still time for them to make me a happier customer.

I got quotes from Salacity, Sungevity & YES for my solar panel installation. YES came out with the best value for money. There was a slight glitch on the day of the installation when nobody showed up. A few phone calls later, everything was sorted out and YES complete the installation within the estimated time. There were some issues getting power generation data online which were rectified by their customer service technician. All in all, everything went through smoothly.

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Your Energy Solutions. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've become accustomed to getting great service and quality work done from vendors I've hired through Angie's List, but this company went beyond that. If you are looking for a quick review, here it is: I wholeheartedly recommend Your Energy Solutions if you are looking to add solar to your house and even more so, if you are looking for a vendor who will work with you to get a whole house energy-efficient home that goes beyond "just" solar. Don't read on unless you have the time or inclination to get a lot of details about my experience with them. :-) By far, this is the most complicated work I've had done through an Angie's List vendor. You wouldn't know it from how smoothly it all went even when occasional obstacles (which are to be expected when the work entails working with HOAs, city inspectors, and PG&E) were encountered. There are two things most important to me when I'm getting complicated and/or expensive work done: getting timely answers to the many questions I'm likely to ask AND a lot of communication once the work is started (e.g., regular updates, letting me know ASAP whenever an obstacle is encountered including how it will affect the project timeline, etc.). For these, Your Energy Solutions gets an A+ from me. I asked a LOT of questions throughout the process, partly because I want to know where my money is going and partly because I'm a tech geek who loves learning about anything tech-related. Not once did they make me feel like they were annoyed with any of them (or me). My first contact with Your Energy Solutions was November last year when my wife and I decided it was time to seriously consider solar and it was my job to figure out if there was a good reason to put it off another few years, determine if we wanted "just" solar or solar plus other energy-efficient add-ons, and last but not least, which vendor we would go with if we decided now was the time. For the next four months, I did my work, and it required asking a lot of questions from the different vendors I came in touch with (not all through Angie's List) so that we could be comfortable with whatever decisions we made. From the beginning, Your Energy Solutions stood out with their responsiveness, especially considering that we had not signed on with them yet and I was open about the fact that we were still considering other vendors. On top of that, their responses were detailed, and they really spent the time to clarify anything I was having trouble understanding. Other vendors took forever to respond or just gave me quickly prepared quotes as if that was to be the end of my communication with them. (Sorry to that other vendor, but if we're going to give you $15k-$20k of our hard-earned money, you'll need to be a lot better than that.) About 1-1/2 months into the process, we had to recalculate the size of our system to account for the purchase of a Chevy Volt, because we wanted to be able to offset charging the car with our solar system. Again, this vendor stood out for their responsiveness. Based on this initial pre-contract experience alone, I would have given Your Energy Solutions a very positive review. Where they really shone was once I signed the contract. We scheduled the installation of the solar system, whole house fan, and solar attic fan about 8 weeks out, because of all the work that has to be done with getting approval from the HOA and approval from the city. Once I provided them with the HOA contact, they did the rest. I got an expected schedule/timing for every step in the process, regular updates throughout the process, timely notification when the city did not approve the initial layout and a new layout needed to be created and reviewed by me. In the middle of all this pre-installation work, I actually was out of the country for 3 weeks, but I never had to worry about what was happening (or not happening as can be the case with other vendors) because of the updates I kept receiving. The installation of the solar system was started, completed inspection, and turned on within 3 days. The installation of the whole house fan and solar attic fan was started and completed in a few hours less than 1-1/2 weeks later. Finally, PG&E turned on net metering for our house 2 weeks after the solar system finished inspection. Everything went just as Your Energy Solutions indicated when I first signed the contract. Finally, the 6 people I came in contact with, whether it was meeting in person, talking on the phone, or communicating by e-mail, were courteous, professional, and just always gave me the feeling that they knew what they were doing and appreciated the fact that I was spending a lot of money on this system they were installing for me. My system has now been "live" for over a month, and I LOVE IT! I'm able to see how much energy we're generating every day through the monitoring they provided me, and it's as predicted. Plus, unless the daytime temperatures get around 90 or more, I usually don't even have to turn on my A/C when I get home from work; I just open some windows and turn on the whole house fan to pull the cooler outside air into the house. Based on my experience with them, you can't go wrong with Your Energy Solutions.

Found YES on Yelp along with incentive on Angie list, so the cost is much lower than other big solar vendor in the Bay Area. One of the vendor will not even install on my stone-coated steel roof. Every one in the company including Jim, the owner, and co-founder/engineer Lou is very polite and friendly. They put in extra effort to meet all city requirements such as the right labels on the electrical box. My first electricity bill with PG&E is half of what it used to be last February. Also not to mention, got $500 referral to a co-worker as well. 5-star for YES! and thanks! Ho https://enlighten.enphaseenergy.com/pv/public_systems/T3tm310424/graph/days

All went well initially, but Jim told me in early December that the inspection was going to occur, "Any day now" and asked if they could install the panels early. I didn't have any problem with it and the installation appeared to go off without a hitch. However, I can't tell because over a month later, the system is no producing power. Every contact with Jim was more reassurance that the city inspection would occur, "Any day now." Eventually I decided to check with the Hayward building department and found that they had yet to even pull a permit! An initial effort on 12-3-13, resulted in a punchlist and they had never followed back up! I informed Jim of my findings and he told me, conveniently enough, that he had sent a rep out that very day to follow up with the city. Thank goodness, I got tired of my project being brushed off and took action myself. I'm still waiting for the update Jim promised following the city visit 3 days ago. I'm tempted to cancel the project and go with Peterson Dean. My neighbor across the street used them and is already signed off and producing power. Very frustrating.
