Technician found corroded evaporator tray that would not drain. Recommended I replace the unit. Cost options to repair approached $10000. I gave him a down payment for a new system, but later changed my mind. Gilmore returned my deposit without delay. Out of curiosity, I crawled under the house and inspected the tray myself. I could not see how this could cause failure in the transformer, and other components,all at least one foot higher up in the duct and away from the tray. I called in a technician from another company and he fixed the problems without mentioning the evaporator tray. Two years hence, my A/C works just fine.

On retrospect, I found I could pay far less at other more reputable vendors. Further, the air filter they installed is actually crooked in the cabinet and shows a complete lack of professionalism. In addition, the gentlemen who did the installation left a mess for me to clean up. Tom

Excellent from start to finish - very polite, helpful, on time and very responsive. All employees were very professional & provided outstanding customer service. I got a tremendous deal with the rebates from the energy program.

We called this company to do an HVAC inspection because, in the course of a home inspection (for a real estate sale), the home inspectors suggested that this would be prudent, as there appeared to be a malfunction of some sort. Gilmore sent somebody out for a "tune up" which is what we paid the $99 for, and in the course of the technician's inspection, he deemed the heater unit to be unsafe. His report was that the heater unit had a cracked condenser and he was "Red Tagging" the unit. This same term (we are red-tagging) was also used by a second tech who came out. When asked about a repair, they told us that it would be $8,000 to $18,000 to replace the unit. We were, not surprisingly, shocked! The unit had been previously looked at by another service person last year who seemed to think there was nothing wrong with the unit. Although we certainly are not HVAC experts, the estimated amount to replace the unit seemed really high, so we got some ball park numbers from other companies, and now have been told that the unit could actually be replaced for as little as about $4,000. Moreover, I spoke with the County's building department, and the person I spoke with confirmed that Gilmore Heating and Air had ABSOLUTELY NO AUTHORITY to "red tag" anything. We felt that the use of this language was intentionally a scare-tactic.

AC stopped working. We had Gilmore come out and technician filled system with coolant and said that they would return in a few weeks to see if we had any loss of coolant due to slow leak. System was back to not cooling within 24-36 hours. They came out again and said we needed a new AC and that we should replace the furnace at the same time and sold us a service contract. Due to price of around ten thousand for both furnace and AC, we decided to go with another company after getting a couple of more bids. The technicians arrived on time and were very polite and patient. There was a lot of back and forth about pricing and we are still not sure if we can back out of the service contracts and what the final bill for all the visits will be since we were to get some discounts if we chose them to do the work.

I had not used this company before. I received an ad in the mail and called for HVAC check & tune-up. My experience was quite good and will use this company again next summer.
Description of Work: HVAC system was checked, tuned up and refrigerant refilled. Performance was checked both before and after service. Young man was courteous, competent, and professional.

I received a discount card in the mail. I had previously used this company and was satisfied. I made an appointment and was able to set up the time that was convenient for me. On the day of service I received a call asking if it would be convenient to have the technician arrive earlier as they had had a cancellation. This worked perfect for me and the technician arrived as agreed upon. Drew, the technician, explained each procedure he was doing and why; what to be aware of. Drew was appropriately friendly.

Gilmore will be installing the new unit at a discounted labor cost, but in the meantime, has made certain that i will be comfortable until the unit arrives. I was already consulting with Gilmore on an inergy audit & on improvements i wished to make to increase my home's efficiency. Mark from Gilmore is working with me on that & i am so please with every person at Gilmore .. totally friendly professionalism... that i have had any contact with by phone or in person. I will give another review after the planned energy efficiency improvements are complete.
Description of Work: Cody showed up to do a diagnostic on my air conditioner unit. He was so thorough and answered all my questions in a way that helped me understand exactly what was going on. He consulted with his boss after finding a refrigerant leak and even though Gilmore does not usually install the brand of unit that mine is, Cody & the "bosses" contacted the company for me & worked out an agreement for the company to supply me with a new unit at no cost since mine is still under warranty.

after they arrived and went up on the roof to check out the problem they found the problem on the first try, the only thing is that they needed a certified tech to fix the problem, hich was done on the next service call 2 days later.
Description of Work: heater would not stay on, the pilot light would keep going out, after 2 service calls, 1 to find the problem, 2 to bring the parts to fix.

. Being 15 years old, it was time to replace my central heat with a more efficient unit, while at the same time adding air conditioning.Although the estimate was high, I was pleased with the initial installation. However, since then, the service has not been anywhere near as good. The first "free checkup" was done on time and well. The second "checkup" ended up being a sales call by a technician trying to sell me something to make my air conditioner last longer. No brochures, nothing meaningful about it. Then he wrote it up as a recommendation that I should have done and ignored. My call to the manager to complain was never returned. The third "checkup", I had a MAV16 filter installed, but the installer put the cabinet (for the filter) in crooked and left the pipes too long, thereby not allowing the door to close properly. Although he left things dirty, he had the nerve to ask me if I was happy with the cleanup. Oh, well. So no more. I can't recommend Gilmore.

Gilmore service Technician (Brian) arrived to perform routine inspection and maintenance of home heating system. Brian discovered an issue that should have been addressed upon installation of system. The NOX panels were still in place and should have been removed for propane gas operation. Brian explained reason removal of NOX panels was necessary. Brian showed me the NOX panels as he was removing them. Brian continued to explain what he was doing as he was doing it. Brian is professional and knowledeable, at the same time being very courteous and considerate. I will continue to use Gilmore services, if all Gilmoe's employees are the same calibre(and I do believe they are) as Brian. They were called out for a specific problem but they came up with quite a grand plan to go in under the house and dig things up in order to work out a connection problem. They also tried to sell us an entire maintenance program and that was certainly not addressing our immediate issue in an effective way. I did not engage their services after all of that and only paid their service fee. They could improve on coming up with a solution that would be more understandable and directly related to the issue that they were called on.

They told me it would be $8,000 to fix it and suggested that we buy a new A/C from them for $22,000. I called another person for a 2nd opinion on the A/C. He told me that someone had opened the faucet and there was coolant all over the ground. He added more coolant and everything has worked well. I am concerned that Gilmore didn't tell me about the faucet being opened and tried to see me a new A/C.
Description of Work: I hired them in the 80's to service our A/C. The A/C started to not cool as well in the 90's so we called them back out.

My appointment for a tune-up was first set for Friday 6-24. I was called on Thursday, 6-23 & asked if they could move this appointment to the 28th. In the meantime, it had become clear that my unit was not cooling and would need more than just a tune-up. I allowed them to move the appointment, knowing the weekend was expected to be cool. Their service man, Fidel, arrived on the 28th after they called to let me know he was on the way. Fidel was an obviously competent and very professional, but also, likable guy. He was patient with all of my questions and very thorough with his explanations. He showed me in detail how the unit was performing (it actually overheated & shut-off while he was testing it) He explained the possible reasons for my problem. When he found no damage to the unit, he added refrigerant and explained the possibility of theft. He explained the benefits of the hard-start capacitor kit, and I agreed to allow it. There was no hard sell. He was efficient and very careful to be neat & clean. I was impressed and will use this service again.

I have some experience in the ac field and knew that the compressor could be checked with the proper tools without installing parts. I could purchase the parts the tech said I needed for less than $30 and the installation would take less than 30 min. I asked the tech what the basic service call charge was and paid him. I had the compressor checked with a test cord and found that it was locked up. I continued to receive many ad in the mail from Gilmore and made several calls telling them that their service was substandard and the ads reminded my of my poor service. After many attempts to stop the ads I went to the shop and talked with Jim Gilmore and he assured me the ads would stop. They did but now they have started again reminding me of a bad experience which cost me approx $70
Description of Work: I called for annual service on my ac. The tech arrived and found that the compressor in my condensing unit wasn't running. After checking it out he said that he would have to replace the relay and capicator to determine if the compressor was OK. He gave me a $425 est and said that if the compressor was bad that the charges would apply to the repair.

Our experience with this company was fantastic from the initial visit with salesman, Rich to the meticulous, highly experienced HVAC technicians, especially Tad. This company completed the work on time and gave us courtesy calls to let us know they were on their way. On installation day it was discovered that the 2 furnaces that were originally ordered would not fit within the area of the old furnace, so instead of rescheduling to another day and waiting for the correct sized furnaces, this company apologized for the inconvenience and upgraded all of our equipment at no charge!! Tad, the senior technician, was so concerned with my mention of my husband and son's severe allergies, he painstakingly sealed all the main ducts into our house (which was never done originally) to ensure the least possible exposure to outside allergens. The technicians were extremely neat, polite, and explained every step of the installation. We would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone!!
Description of Work: Replace existing 2 furnaces in home with 2 energy efficient 2 stage induced draft gas furnaces. Replace existing 2 AC units with 2 energy efficient split gas/electric AC units. Install 2 upgraded healthy climate, allergen reduction, air filters. Enlarge two duct supply systems, replace 1 air return grille, and install 2 new supply diffusers. Install 2 energy efficient touch-screen programmable thermostats.

Estimate midrange of 3 estimates. Buyer requested a reliable, more efficient heater that was quieter than existing unit and the addition of air conditioner. Took over 7 days to install the first units. The installers placed air conditioning lines over dryer vent and refused to move the lines--dryer went out 5 days later. The unit was causing the closet door to heat up, and the manufacturer said the unit was installed too close to door. Building inspector flunked the installation on ten counts. Five months later a different system was installed which took another 7 days far exceeding the usual 1 to 2 days other companies do. I had concerns as the installers spent time on their cell phones talking while trying to do work at the same time. There was also evidence that a worker had been in the medicine cabinet of the bathroom they were given permission to use. Finally after the second system was installed with a couple of adjustments the unit passed inspection.
Description of Work: Heater replaced and air conditioner installed in a 20 year old home.
