He did fine with putting in the frame, but he never came back to do the second job. He kept telling me that he was away and was coming such and such a day. He never came, so that is the end of him. I would have preferred him saying he cannot do the second job and he is busy or something. I don?t like him stalling me along. He never called. I didn?t like that, and I would never call him again. I don?t like when people do that.
Description of Work: I used Michael Haakenson of CMS Handyman Service once a few months ago. I had two things I wanted done. One was the rim around the outside of the house. The frame had to be of new board, and he put in that for me. Then, I wanted a gate put around my pool equipment because my wooden gate was rotting.

I bought two three-hour packages as part of a Big Deal. Mike came for the first visit, and though he was here for more than an hour, gave me credit for five hours for his return visit. In the first trip, he put the screen door back on its track (I hadn't been able to get it on in numerous tries) and evaluated the other jobs I wanted done. He took measurements for baseboards and trim, looked at the plasterwork and baseboard repair on several walls and in the bathroom, and evaluated the garage door situation. He then told me very clearly what it would cost in materials to do all the work, including the finish carpentry, showing me a catalog of possible trim styles, and scheduled his return. When he came back, right on time, he immediately got to work and did a great job. He installed two springs on the garage door (which now operates better than it ever did), put in all the baseboard and trim throughout the hall, living room, and front kitchen, caulked everything, reinstalled the baseboard in the bathroom (I had a leak awhile ago, and it needed repair), patched a lot of cosmetic plaster cracks, and finished within the time I had paid for. He talked about what I needed to do to finish the plaster repairs; he noted that I could do it myself or call him if I preferred not to, and offered me a deal on painting. We also talked about some of the other work needed around the house. I loved that he gave great suggestions and didn't push for more work, but was more than willing to come back. I liked the fact that he knew a lot about a lot of different things, just the way a handyman should. Can't wait to have him back!
Description of Work: I found Mike through one of Angie's Big Deals. I had a number of little jobs, including some wall repairs I had been meaning to do for quite awhile. He told me that, in the time I had paid for, he could install baseboards and finish trim through most of the house, something I have been thinking about doing since I had suffered some water damage a few years ago. On his first visit, he measured for the trim, fixed my sliding screen door, looked at some cracks in the plaster walls that needed patching, looked at some cosmetic repairs from a recent leak in the bathroom, gave me a very detailed report on what he would be doing when he returned, and looked at my garage door (the spring had broken). He was also very helpful in making suggestions about future jobs that I was interested in doing. He had a lot of good ideas.

Mike Sr. came out to help me with the "honey-do" list that has been hanging over my husband's shoulder for the last 6 months. He was polite, worked hard, well-skilled, and finished my entire list plus some! He was a great help to us. My husband (who is never impressed with anyone who I hire) was even very pleased! We had a great experience.... We will definitely have CMS Handyman Service back when the list gets long again.
Description of Work: Hanging blinds, shelving, fixing drywall, correcting doors that were hanging incorrectly, installing earthquake proofing, misc odd jobs.

I felt I received real value for the extensive nature of the work and considering it took the entire day to complete. Michael did an outstanding job of wall patch, installation of the cabinet and sink and did a careful and professional job of sealing around the sink so that we would not ever have a problem with water damage in this area again. I was impressed with the fact that he wanted to be sure that no mold was growing behind the wall before putting everything back together. A great call considering that if mold had been found there, it would have been disastrous to the occupant's health and major expense to remedy. His clean up after the job was excellent. My tenant was very happy and that made me very happy! Great job! I'd be happy to have Michael do work for me again.
Description of Work: Tear out of old kitchen counter top and sink which necessitated disconnecting the attached plumbing. Because there was leakage around the sink, mold had grown under the counter and and on the wall adjacent to the counter. An independent mold contractor tested and analyzed the mold and recommended the remediation protocol. Because the mold was not of the highly toxic type, remediation required only cutting out of the affected areas on the wall and the cabinet and treatment and sealing of the cabinet. The kitchen counter top and sink were a total loss and had to be disposed of, which Michael did. Michael also was the one who called for further recommendation on the mold found on the wall as he had concerns mold might be growing behind the wall. Fortunately this was not the case. The wall was then repaired with drywall, patched and painted, the new counter and sink installed and the plumbing reconnected.

I spoke with Mike on a Thursday to set up a Monday appointment. Mike spoke at length about the materials I'd need to buy, the job in general and what I could expect. On Monday, Mike called 2 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment to reschedule. He said another client opted to go longer than the 3 scheduled hours, and that I "had a right to do the same." I expressed my frustration that I had prepared quite a bit for him to be there today and asked if he could come out the following morning. He said no, and became agitated that I was upset. I shared that it was a terrible inconvenience and he countered that "you get what you pay for, bro!" and that he had to drive an extended amount to do my job (despite the fact that Angie's List direct marketed his service to me). He then told me he had the right to refuse servicing the job and that he didn't have to do business with me, and proposed that I call Angie's List to request a refund. I counseled that this wasn't a good way to do business and he said "go ahead and write a negative review on Angie's List! See if I care, bro!" Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend doing business with this contractor. He appears to have difficulty meeting commitments and has a hair trigger on his attitude. UPDATE: I ended up having the work done by a drywall contractor who brought his own materials and completed the work in less than three hours. I scheduled him the day before, he arrived promptly on schedule as agreed and did an incredible job. I was able to return the materials to Lowe's. All in, I spent a few dollars less than "The Big Deal" and made an excellent contact with the alternate contractor. This is how it's done.
Description of Work: We purchased "The Big Deal" 3 hours of drywall service for $99 from Mike. I emailed him to schedule an appointment and called 2 days later to book. It was all set for 3/14/2011 at 1pm.

I spoke to this client on Saturday and informed him I had an appt. Monday morning and that I could possibly swing by Monday afternoon(there was not a scheduled time) if I completed my first appt. I called the client around noon and informed him I could not schedule him for Monday as I am still on my 1st job and if we could schedule for another day. He insisted that this was bad business and I was blowing him off in an aggressive tone and I informed him we can schedule another day or he can get a refund. There was not a set appt scheduled for this client.

Mike replaced the old faucet with a new one, making adjustments for parts as needed. He was careful in terms of protecting work areas and helped clean up. He also did a great job caulking around a shower tub and below a sink. The work was done carefully and efficiently.
Description of Work: Mike has completed painting and plumbing jobs for me in the past, all done with quality work and professionalism. This most recent service involved replacing an old faucet as well as caulking in the bathrooms.

Handyman agreed to meet me at the apt on 6/10/10 at 1pm. He never showed up. I called him from my parents home since my cell phone was dead and agreed to reschedule our rendezvous at 3pm. I told him he wouldn't be able to call me directly and asked him to simply meet around 3pm. We spoke around 1:30pm so he had plenty of time even with traffic to show up. I waited 30 minutes but he never showed up. He called my parents home around 4:30pm and asked if I still wanted him to show up. Are you kidding? NEVER!!

The Client and I agreed to speak @ 1pm(not meet) to give me the address to the job site. He did not answer his phone and called me back @ 1:30 to schedule a time for me to come by and look @ some work & agreed to meet @ 3pm. I was in traffic & could not call him due to his phone being dead but I was on my way. I ended up arriving at 3:30...tenants of the apt building were outside & explained to me that he was waiting for me but he had just left. He knew I was on my way and he could of used a tenants phone to contact me to get my estimated time of arrival. Standard protocall. To make a long story short I was there the tenants were real eager for me to repair some things in their apt. so they gave me the fathers number. I spoke with his father @ 3:30 (not 4:30) to see if they were going to meet with me. I left multiple messages and felt this client was very inconsiderate. After being at their apt building and looking at the apts. I realized these people were slumlords and did not take care of their tenants or their building. I explained to the tenants they have renters rights and they did not have to live this way and told them to call building and safety and public health.

I was not entirely happy with the way he did the work I hired him to do. I gave him a project and asked him to get back with me. He took a part he was supposed to be working with and essentially disappeared. I ended up having to hire another handyman to come complete the work. The work he actually did was okay. However, I was disappointed that he did not return my calls, and I found his lack of responsiveness to be very unprofessional. He should have responded to my calls if he was not interested in completing the project. I would not consider using him in the future.
Description of Work: I contacted him for a number of small projects around my home, including fixing a cabinet that wouldn’t close, installing a small wall shelf in the bathroom, and hanging a swing on a tree in the back yard.

Initial estimate to complete job was 4-5 days. Actual time spent was 10 days with job suspended due to inability to complete within original time estimate. Contractor was hired based on estimate/bid on an hourly basis, since job took twice as long as original estimate, the cost was twice as much as orginal estimate. Quality of work was good, but project was more expensive than anticipated. Project was not completed due to inability to complete on time and based on my schedule for other commitments. I will consider using in the future to complete the initial project proposal with defined date for completion of project.

Some work was OK. They didn't finish some of the work. The brick work described in the description was never done because Michael could not find matching bricks. He set an expectation that all projects could be done, and he came back later and said he couldn't. He promised to come one Friday, and didn't show up. The next Friday he showed up and according to the estimate the work would be done in one day, however, it took 2 days to complete the work. Some of the work itself was done badly. He was supposed to patch some cracks and repaint them. They patched the doors and the doors have holes in them again. The doors are leaking and water is coming in. When they painted, they didn't keep the colors in the lines, so the colors bled. The spilled some paint on the floor and on the tile. When he installed the supports in the ceiling, he put a hole in the ceiling and then did a poor job patching it. He was also supposed to fix a fan switch and he couldn't figure out how to fix it without calling his dad. When he was patching up the doors, he had the patch material on his hands, and I have spackle on the door handles. IF the father was doing the work, I would use them again, I would not use the son.
Description of Work: They installed a fan, and a support for a fan. They fixed some doors on the outside gate, replaced some brick work on some outback walls.
They were on time, worked hard, great workmanship, pride in a job well done, reasonable price. Only slight negative is they left the place messy and didn't clean once they got paid in full. Still I would hire them in a second for a future job and so should anyone reading this. Mike Jr. is especially talented and skilled with small carpentry jobs.
Description of Work: Mike Jr and Sr., father and son team, did a great job- $20K remodel job finished quickly, less than 3 weeks. New windows installed, French doors, laminate flooring, new kitchen cabinets, paining, built storage shed, etc.

I worked with his father. He was able to do a number of things and was very nice and friendly. He seemed to know what he was doing. Working with him was easy. My only issue was that he did not clean the surrounding areas after completing the work, but since I was paying by the hour I was willing to do it myself.
Description of Work: Installed two mirrored closet doors, re-caulked sink and shower, patched some cracks near roof, installed new kitchen faucet.
Overall it went very well. Mike Sr. showed up and was very easy going. He was easy to communicate with and he got everything done in 4 hours(their minimum call).
Description of Work: Repaired wooden fence, fixed dresser drawers, placed base board and did some wood patching.
He was able to work with us. He was really awesome. He was a dedicated young man. He was flexible. We even had some electrical problems, and he fixed that too. I would absolutely recommend him to others.
Description of Work: His name is Micheal Hakenson. He rebuilt half of the kitchen where we had mold remediation done. He put in new insulation and drywall. He also painted the kitchen. Put in a disposal, fixed all the water lines, and numerous other things

Everything went great in the beginning. Mike worked with my schedule, which can be tough since it's just me and I have a very 9 to 7 job, and gave me good quotes. The problem arose as time went on. It seemed that I lost importance as time wore on. When he put the dishwasher back it didn't work anymore and he promised that he would fix it - except it never got fixed. He would say that he was gonna come over but it never happened. After two months of this we finally booked a time for him to come cause I also had other stuff I wanted help with, but he forgot to come. So we rescheduled and then he said he couldn't make it again which at that point I expressed my frustration and we still agreed on another time. He didn't show up or call and when I called him he said he wasn't coming back because I had said I couldn't rely on him and that my work schedule was just too hard to deal with. So now I'm stuck with a dishwasher that doesn't work and I have to pay to get it fixed.
Description of Work: I had my kitchen demolished with the exception of the appliances. All the demolition was removed. Also built a small wall from the ceiling in order to hang Ikea cabinets. Installed recess lighting in the kitchen and repaired some holes in the wall, including an access panel for my shower plumbing. Once the new Ikea kitchen was installed, he came back to hook up the appliances and faucet.

The painting was done in a very efficient manner, however there was a bit of sloppiness to the painting. I feel that they should be a bit more responsive, as they tend to be a bit slow on returning phone calls. The work other that they did was very good. The price was, however, a bit more than I had expected.
