We knew the price was too good to be true and it was. The owner told us during the quote that he could make our 25 year old cabinets look almost new. He himself set the target completion date in writing for 8/15/11. He also stated the work would be completed in 5 days from the start date. He insisted on 50% payment up front. Issues: 1. We called Mr. Cabinet 3 times the week of 8/1/11 to find out when they were going to start. 2. Work started 8/9/11 but has not yet been completed. The issues are numerous but the scam seems to be the "I will make your cabinets look almost new". But then when they come back with the doors we receive a call and he states " He had been wrong and just did not notice how bad a shape our cabinets were really in". Yeath Right! The owner stopped by on what was to be the day of completion. His crew (nephew & a former food service worker) came late and stayed very late trying to complete the job in one day but obviously could not. They did not complete the work. There is orange peel on two surfaces and the corners of the cabinets are full of sawdust that was sprayed over and looks terrible. Mr cabinet states that when he was here everything was great. Well the workers had not completed the job when he was here. He did not seem to even care to look over their work. He keeps stating that he is too busy to finish now and we have to wait until he has time. We do not expect to ever hear from him again and will stand outside of his booth with one of our incomplete doors if he is set up for any more home shows. His 'woodworking team' started sanding our bathroom door and ran to home depot for stain to cover up some of their inadequate work. They put the molding on around the inside door and it has since fallen off. The broke the molding that goes on the outside of the door. The finish must have only been one thin coat on the cabinets because one drop of water makes the finish come off and we have soft water in our house! They also scrateched the heck out of my kitchen floor when moving the refrigerator. Do not let these people into your home. They do not do what they say they are going to do. Mr. Cabinet (Dave) will not answer a simple question: Did you look at your employees finished product and think it was fine? My husband called last week and of course received the same answer: we consider your work finished and the little fixes you want have to wait until we finish our next job. The point is they never completed our work but moved on to the next project. We called him the same night the workers left and in detail told him the work was unsatisfactory. Update 10/12/11: Another two weeks and we still do not have our cabinet doors. I am forced to go to Penn Valley to demand the work be completed. I have started proceedings with the state board.

Not good.
Description of Work: These guys actually did a pretty good job of building the cabinets but they had to go back a fix a few things that they messed up from the drawings. The big thing was that the finishing they did on the cabinets was absolutely GARBAGE! I've had the cabinets less then a year and they look 20 years old. I called to ask them to honor their warranty and refinish them and they blamed the problems on me. And then told me they were going bankrupt anyway so there was nothing they could do. But the website is still up and the phone still has their message on it. DO NOT Use these guys. They are pretty cheap for custom cabinets but their professionalism and finishing quality is a joke.

The first time they installed there were many mistakes, completely different from the plan. The sink cabinet did not fit at all, there were cupboards where there were supposed to be drawers, there was wood where there was supposed to be glass, there was a false front where there was supposed to be a drawer, and more. They fixed most of that, but amazingly, pressured us for our final (third) payment at that time, before any countertops had even been installed. We didn't pay. The countertops got installed, and there were still some mistakes, but they said they would fix the few final things, and would we please pay at that time. So we did. But the sland still had quite a few mistakes, places that had not been finished. More important, the cabinet over the stove top was 3 inches too short, and the cabinet over the refrigerator was 4 inches too short. I spent a few weeks trying to find a fan that would fit over the stove, but they don?t exist at that height. Mike Bell, our contact at Mr. Cabinet, and a very nice person, said they couldn?t fix the cabinet over stove because it?s part of a bigger unit. Instead, he had them put a false front on, leaving us with a smaller cabinet, but at least we could attach the fan. My husband hung the fan, because they left without doing it. My husband also fixed their many mistakes on the kitchen island. Mike Bell promised IN WRITING that Mr. Cabinet would replace the cabinet over the refrigerator with one the correct size. (It looks funny?the small cabinet over the fridge----and it leaves a 4 inch space below it that looks like plain drywall.) He said he had measured wrong. Then, suddenly, he emailed that he no longer worked for Mr. Cabinet. This was in June, 2008. He said to contact them directly. I did, but they didn't respond. I tried to reach them several more times, including recently, when I got Dave Ferguson to call me back only by pretending I was NOT someone with history with Mr. Cabinet. He refused and refuses to replace the cabinet, or even just put an extension (like a shelf) under it, as we suggested. He says that since the plan shows the same dimension that was built, it therefore isn't their fault! He says that since we signed the contract, confirming the measurements, then it?s OUR fault that we didn?t check all the measurements before anything was built. Well, HOW does a customer check measurements on cabinets that don?t exist yet? Measure the blank wall? Mr. Cabinet?s website says, ?Relax and let Mr. Cabinet do the work.? ?We have the knowledge and expertise to do the job right the first time. All of the cabinets we offer come with a full warranty.? Oh yeah? He doesn't want to resolve this. He owes us either a new cabinet, or a shelf under it made of the same wood, to cover their mistake. If he HAD just taken care of this problem, then, despite the earlier problems, we probably would have recommended them.
Description of Work: I hired them to do all new cabinets and countertops.

Response from MR CABINET
These people just want to make changes without paying for them. We completed the work as agreed and as ordered. They placed an order with measurements specified, we build to those specs. Then even said that they were what they ordered. I am enclosing copies of the plans that they ordered, signed and paid for. We offered to make any changed they want at cost, but they only want the changes for free. They do not want to take any responsibility for the order even if they did approve the work.

Mike Bell did the cabinet design and somehow, in the same size kitchen, I have way more cabinet space than I had before. The cabinets were delivered on schedule and everything was just as I had requested (cabinet style, finger pull, design, they are perfect). Everyone I dealt with at Mr. Cabinet was so courteous and nice. The whole project went smoothly and I am delighted with the final result. I would recommend Mr. Cabinet to anyone.
Description of Work: Tear out, design and install custom kitchen cabinets.
