Excellent from start to finish. Received 3 quotes and while all quotes were reasonable, the warranties of he other two companies were dependent on too many factors, including yearly checkups etc. Chimney safety experts showed us additional options for our fireplace, but there was no hardsell. You can tell they really like what they do. Was also nice that they have a store front.

This company originally did an inspection for a prior purchase offer of the house that we ultimately bought. I checked previous reviews on Angie's List and liked what I read so I decided to call and see if they would honor the estimate they had given the prior buyers, which they did, even though it was almost six months ago. Monica is extremely pleasant to work with, as is Larry who did the original inspection and walked me through the work to be done over the phone. The crew they sent out were professional, pleasant and efficient and got the work done more quickly than anticipated. I would definitely use them again.

They did what they said, they were professional. They were reasonably priced. They were very good about answering our questions and worked quickly.

I had this great company redo my chimney last December 2012..To maintain the 20 year warranty, you call every year to have them come out and to maintain the 20 year warranty, they will inspect and clean if needed....I didn't need any cleaning, as I don't burn real wood...I use the Duraflame logs.....However, the technician found that on the top of my chimney where they repaired it, were quite a few cracks.... Hugo and Tommy came out and repaired the damage and resealed everything that was cracked......It was done professionally and with care..... I wouldn't use any other company....Monica organized everything and Larry did a follow up call to make sure all was taken care of.....Great people, professional technicians!

He finally called around 5:30 p.m. to tell me that he would be here around 6 p.m. This is not acceptable and I told them not to come.

From start to finish -- from the initial inspection and bid by Larry Morrison -- to the final installation by his crew -- the experience was problem free. His workers were professional and respectful of my home. The job was completed in the prescribed time. Monica returned my calls immediately and was most pleasant. I am very pleased with the professional and thorough job completed by Chimney Safety Experts and highly recommend his company. This is another example of why I'm happy I have continued my subscription to Angie's List. And no one pays me to say this!

Misleading behavior. We responded to a flyer with a discounted price, but when the serviceman arrived (at the last moment of the time window) he looked at our chimney and stated the cost would be nearly double the coupon price. This wouldn't have been so bad but for the fact that the scheduler did not inform us that the coupon was for only one type of chimney and the flyer has no indication of possible price variations, e.g. No asterisk or usual footnote in this regard. While their final bid was less expensive than other companies, I choose not to deal with people who practice "bait and switch" tactics. I had to leave work early to be disappointed thusly. Epic Fail.

Rep showed up. Seemed like a nice guy. Went up to the top of chimney, looked down, jumped off the top onto my roof, causing some minpr cracking in my living room ceiling. As I didn't notice it immediately, we didn't say anything. He said we have a cracking in the top of the chimney; but, offered no video proof. Vacuumed the opening at the bottom and presented his bill. I was in no mood to start an arguement so I paid him and he left. I know through advertisements to realtors, they usually present a video so the homeowner can see the damage. In our case, I don't feel comfortable with his $3500. estimate and will have to get another price.

Chimney Safety Experts updated and repaired my three fireplaces a few years ago. I've since used them for general upkeep. Today was the second time for chimney sweeping. Excellent service. Called in advance. Arrived as indicated. Neat and professional.

This is the second time I've used them. They were very punctual, professional, courteous and clean. They offered the warranty that I was looking for. I would use them again.

Larry and his team had shored up my chimney this past summer by using an alternative method to a complete teardown. They did a really terrific job: prompt, clean, courteous, respectful workers. I truly appreciated that Larry came up with a way to fix the chimney that maintained its structural integrity, but didn't require the cost of a full teardown. As part of this repair, they vented my furnace out a separate pipe (it was previously channeled up the chimney -- not good) to the top of the roof. Fast forward to a few weeks ago. My furnace was intermittently not working. The HVAC repair guy said that he thought it was likely because the height of the furnace pipe was not high enough in relation to the horizontal length of the pipe's run under my house. Something to do with the air draft affecting the furnace operation. Knowing that I had just got the chimney fixed six months ago, he suggested I call my chimney guy to come out and put some added pipe on the end to extend it a few feet. I contacted Larry. He said no problem. He sent out his very courteous workers. They fixed it in a few minutes. All done. I really appreciate that Larry followed through on his job this way. Although it was a minor addition, Larry did it quickly and professionally. He did not argue or suggest that my HVAC guy was wrong, as some lesser companies might. He just did the job to make sure everything was right. That gives me a lot of comfort regarding the quality of his work and the fact that he will stand behind it. I highly recommend him.

Thank you Larry and Monica for being so helpful. I contacted Chimney Safety Experts when we were in the contingency period of our escrow and wanted to make sure all checked out well with the chimney. My realtor had suggested the name of another chimney inspection service. When we went to check them out on Angie's List, they were listed but had few reviews. We came across Chimney Safety Experts name and saw what outstanding reviews they had so I called them instead. Let me tell you, they went over-board in helping us, First, we were up against a very short contingency period and they fit us into their schedule immediately. At first they were unable to schedule us since they were all booked, but when I explained our circumstance and tight deadline, they agreed to help us out. The first time someone from the company came to the property, they indicated that they didn't service the type of fireplace I had (it's dated) but they took the time to speak with me and my realtor about the configuation of the fireplace, etc.. This in itself was very helpful, and I wasn't charged for the trip! That in itself was impressive (as we know, many service providers would have charged me a fee regardless). Then the owner Larry called me later that day to talk about the fireplace/chimney and he insisted on coming to the property himself to help us out and inspect the chimney. Because he was so busy during the day, he did this as his last stop(not very convenient for him). Plus, he ended up waiting until I could get there to talk to me about his observations and conclusions. And then the next day, Monica called to see if everything went well and if I needed anything else. I felt as if I was back in the 1950's living in a small town where people really helped and cared for each other. Thanks Chimney Safety Experts, and thanks Larry and Monica for being so accommodating and going the extra mile.

After reading your issue of September 2011 "Blowing Smoke", I initially called Chimney Safety Experts to have them come out and clean and inspect our fireplace. Our house, a 1956 Mid Century Modern house, had not had it's chimney and fireplace cleaned and since we bought the house in April 2008 and we knew we had some issues with it. An appointment was set for 11/2/2011 and technician Nathanial showed up promptly at the appointed time. He was very professional and explained what his service was going to entail and laid down clean cloths, inspected and vacuumed the fireplace. He was very knowledgeable and after getting up on the roof to complete the inspection and clean, wrote up the report of things that needed to be fixed so we could enjoy the use of our fireplace. He explained everything very simply and clearly. After receiving the quote for the repairs, I called Monica to schedule an appropriate time for the work to be done. On 12/12/2011, technicians Thomas and David arrived promptly at 8:30am and began preparing for the work ahead. Of course, this was the first rainy day in Los Angeles, and only half the work could be done. Even though it was raining, great care with dropcloths was taken by Thomas and David and no mud or mess came inside our house. At all times, they were courteous and professional even with the rain. At 11:30am, they had done all they could and were going to return the next day to finish the job, weather permitting. On 12/13/2011, the sun was shining and Thomas and David arrived at 8am to complete the work. Within a short time, they were able to access the roof and complete all necessary exterior work and complete the remaining interior work. Once done, the process was again fully explained and Thomas made sure we knew how to operate our new damper system. We also understood we couldn't use the fireplace for at least 10 days so the new "Chamber-Tech 2000" cement could cure. All of this work came with a 20 year guarantee! Our fireplace would be ready for use by 12/24/2011. What a fantastic Christmas present! From start to finish, Chimney Safety Experts were a pleasure to deal with and wouldn't hesitate recommending them. They will be company going forward that will be taking care of our chimney!

I spoke to this guy named Larry. Do you know those people that make you beg to give them your money? This is one of them. A few things didn't sit right with me after I spoke with this guy. First, he made the job sound extremely exaggerated. I have a chimney leaning away from the house. He told me that they would have to go in the attic and build a whole structure to support the chimney. He would also have to put straps and make sure that it didn't move any further. Second, he made it such a big deal that I was being difficult about an estimate. Keep in mind that it was the first time he ever mentioned that he should come out and give an estimate. When I asked him about the cost of an estimate, he was pretty condescending and said "Do me a favor. When you're ready to do that work, call the office and schedule it with them. It's $69 for the estimate, $89 to use the camera." While the estimate price seems fair, I'm afraid that this estimate will create additional expenses where none exist. Read below for my reasoning behind that statement. Third, when I asked him a range, he told me $10,000. I said OK. He's like "I'm being sarcastic." If i needed sarcasm, I would just rent the movie Borat or go to a comedy club. If you'd prefer not to give me an estimate over the phone, then don't. If you don't want to do the job, it's fine, but don't belittle my questions and certainly don't come back at me with sarcasm. What a silly way to do business. Fourth, when he was telling me about the estimate, he said that most likely the structure of the thing used to attach the chimney to the house already existed in the attic and they could use some of it. This is when it became a red flag. If this structure most likely already existed and he could use some of it, why did he suggest in the first part of the conversation that he would have to build a whole new one? No idea. I don't trust this company. If they are going to make up things to inflate the cost and then come at me with sarcasm, it's clear that they are not trustworthy. Beware.

Update 1/21/12 Will utilize them to repair my chimney. Very professional and customer focused. Went to a local long existing fire place store and got two well thought of mason references. Hired one and met him and went with him on entire inspection. First and most blatant was we have a damper! Second we have a very tall roof but I reluctantly went to top with him. The top of the chimney had no cracks and was braced to the house and the overhange of the roof extended past chimney. Chimney flashing and area around chimney still well sealed. Cap had never been removed from what we could tell. The fire box had 3 cracked brick and the mortar joints needed repair. The mason came back and ground out the mortar joints and replace the broken bricks for $1000. I am glad I hired someone else and would never work with this company again!

My experience with Chimney Safety Experts was really exceptional from start to finish. We just bought a very old house that needed a new roof, and the roofing companies we contacted told us they couldn't start any work until the chimney was repaired with new flashing installed. I called CSE in a bit of hurry because I wanted to make sure we got the roof work done before the rainy season started. They answered the phone and were able to schedule an appointment with Larry at our house on the same day I called. When I met Larry, he was very friendly and took the time to explain everything that was going on. He came up with a couple of options of what we could do to repair the chimney. But the best part was that he really listened to what our situation was, and understanding that none of the options he originally came up with were going to meet our timeline or budget, he came up with an even better option for repair of the chimney. AND he was able to squeeze us into his schedule within 3 days, which was super important for us. From there, Larry and his guys took care of all the planning and details to get the work done. They did all the work on Saturday and Sunday which was amazing. He also coordinated with our roofer to install the proper chimney flashing as part of the job. The end result was a truly amazing-looking chimney top, and our roofer was able to start work the following week. Mission accomplished.

They were awesome and a great price compared to another firm I had gotten an estimate from. Larry is a super cool guy and speaks to you in plain English about what needs to be done. His crew were very professional and you can tell from watching them work that they are great craftsmen. The guy building my firebox was a third generation mason and it was super cool to see how neatly and quickly he worked. The job was pretty messy but they cleaned up everything. As I move forward to renovate other parts of my house, I wish all contractors were like Larry. No nonsense, did what he said he would, communicated clearly and right away. Also, someone who really cares about his job! I recommend him without hesitation.

They're willing to call my job so I don't have to miss as much work. They were very friendly. They are even willing to give me a larger discount for being an Angie's List member.

Larry and his crew were very prompt, thorough and explained everything in detail while explaining the various options available (with the pros and cons). They were very concerned with the cleanliness of their job for which I was grateful. They came at the time promised and completed the work in one day (even though it required more time than anticipated...not due to their fault). Unlike other companies I interviewed, they spoke English so the communication was very clear. I would highly recommend them.

We bought a house and asked them to perform an inspection of the chimney. Recently, we noticed that the cap of the chimney was open so that we asked them to check whether it was left open. The company agreed to do a free check. Later, I was informed that it was not their fault. I am very grateful for their visit and felt really bad that we did not pay for their visit (as my husband was meeting them alone).

Workers were prompt, courteous and quick with the work. It's been a pleasure to deal with this company.
