The job could not have gone any better. The crew was on time, friendly, neat, courteous, and hard working. The job foreman reviewed the contract before the crew got started and explained how the job would proceed. They finished on time with no problems and the patio extension looked great and was well matched to the existing patio. Like I said it could not have gone any better!

It was good. They were very professional. They did it in two parts and found a few issues; which we had to fix or not use. They use a camera to take a look at inside the chimney, which was cool. Don't give email because they do a lot of specials.

From the very thorough initial estimate from Jim Stanton to the 3 days of work on the chimney at my new home by workers who were very courteous, I'm truly happy with the work this company did. They didn't make a mess and left my place clean. My family will hopefully be enjoying some wonderful roaring fires this winter--safely and worry free.

I rate them very highly. I would use them again in the future.

We had hired Boston Brick & Stone to replace our chimney (see separate listing), but our brick walkway really needed replacing. The previous owners had pasted a green rug at the entry & the glue could not be removed. They replaced it with used dark red brick in a basket weave pattern. The completed project looked real nice. Their price seemed a little high, but they did good work.

I ended up using somebody else. Their price was comparable but they couldn't provide the warranty that I was looking for.

I had multiple people come out for bids and they gave me the most confidence about what they suggested. They put a camera down the chimney and looked around. We had a big crack in our chimney and if we had built a fire in it, we had a chance of setting the house on fire. They did a really good job diagnosing and bringing the chimney up to code.

We just bought our house, so it was still empty when they came out. They showed up on time, did a great job of containing the dust, explained things in detail to us, took pictures which were included in a very detailed report that we received and installed the spark arrestor on our chimney that was recommended by our house inspector. We had a great experience with this company from start to finish. They recommended some repairs that will be needed before we can actually use the fireplace. We are not planning to do these repairs now, but would definitely hire this company when we are ready to do so.

I really wanted Boston Brick and Stone to do the job because in looking through their web-site; I noticed that they do quality work. However I did not expect to be discriminated against when attempting to get an estimate. I feel that I was denied services because of the geographical area that I live in. Mark did offer to come out and give me a fair estimate after I called the company to try and figure out what was going on. I feel that Mark was told to call me back to make up for canceling the estimate appointment but the damage was done, and I did not feel that it was genuine. I would not want to get any work done from Boston Brick and Stone because they chose to be geographically racist.

They're punctual and the work they have done has been good.

They came, they estimated the cost, the fulfilled the job on a timely basis and to budget and the crew was great.

Brilliant craftsmen! Responded promptly, Gave an estimate and stuck to it. Continued to work in a rainstorm by placing a plastic tent over the work area. They looked like occupy Pasadena. I would use them again and recommend them to anyone who will listen.

I.used the fireplace in the living room around the clock during the windstorm and power outage in December. As my house was built in 1936 and had no cap on the chimney, I felt that a thorough inspection and evaluation was needed afterward. BBS did this and sent me a thorough report with recommendations for repairs and bringing the chimney up to code. We confirmed the work to be done and scheduled it, The workers and the supervisor arrived on that date. They protected the fireplace opening and surround from damage and preventing dust from spreading into the house. The work was inspected for completion and conformity to the contract. The fireplace still has a great draw and the work looks very good. There was no damage to the inside of the house because of the work.

They were really, really good. I even used the Angie’s List discount coupon with them. They came and gave me a good estimate. It was a better estimate than anybody's was. They were very clean. They were very thorough. They sent a supervisor twice. Even when the job was finished, they came to check if the job was done well. They were the best. They did an excellent job. The price was very good.

My experience with Boston Brick and Stone was great from start to finish. They were professional throughout the job, gave me daily status reports and informed me of crew work dates, they finished the job in the three weeks they estimated, they accommodated their inside work to my work schedule, they cleaned up after each work day, and they performed quality work. The new chimney looks wonderful and we've been using the fireplace practically every evening since the day they finished.

Boston Brick and Stone from Pasadena came out and gave me four separate estimates for three separate jobs. The estimates were reasonable, the reviews on Angie’s List were favorable in the extreme and they proved to surpass my expectations. What I was asking for was not an everyday job and there was no way to know if it would look the way I envisioned it in my head. I showed them pictures, they said they knew what I was talking about and, lo and behold – split river rock in mortar that is covering the flat cement foundation looks like the foundation is made entirely of stone and has been there for 90 years. I could not believe what they had accomplished. They also moved the sprinkler valves out from the house for no extra cost because the estimator had not noticed it would be necessary when he was first here. They threw in the cutest little cement ramp for my dog to reach the dog door and covered the open side of it with more split river rock. They fixed my ancient stone barbecue and surely it’ll be another 60 years till that has to be done again. I so highly recommend Boston Brick and Stone.

The inspector showed up on time. I didn't watch him the entire time because I also had someone there to inspect the HVAC system and they needed to show me something. Their report seemed ok, it pointed out some code violations and work that needed to be done in the $7K range with the caveat the the job cost/scale might double based on what they found once they started work. Boston suggested we hire them to do a chimney sweep for further inspection but were unavailable to do it quickly, so I had another highly rated chimney firm come out to do it and also to get a second opinion from them. This other firm, Chimney Safety Expert Network, showed us that our chimney cap (basically a big topper on our chimney) hadn't been moved for the prior inspection, so the Boston guy didn't even look down the chimney after we rushed around to get the area cleared for the inspection. He said we didn't need our chimney swept at all and didn't understand why Boston would suggest it. Their inspection as also half as much.Boston Brick called me for a follow up after their inspection and I told them I felt mislead for the reasons stated above. Why tell me to remove vegetation and then not even look down the top? Their excuse was that I had paid for a basic inspection and that I would have gotten a more thorough inspection if I had paid more for the next level up, so apparently looking down the top of the chimney is not included in basic inspection. They said if I looked on the website I would see the difference between the different inspections but that info is not shown on their website. They also said I shouldn't feel too alarmed because they used a fancy camera when inspecting and the photos should put me at ease. When I looked in my report from Boston there were no photos. I felt like they called to ask for my feedback and then acted very defensive when I gave it. Overall, I have a bad taste in my mouth from my experience with them and would not use them. If you look on Yelp that have a lot of bad reviews on there that I wish I had seen first.

If you're looking for a professional contractor who flawlessly completes your project and leaves you wowed in the end, don't hire BB&S. We were certainly wowed...by how long the project took and their lack of craftmanship. In fact, we shortened their name to the more appropriate 'BS.' We hired BS to do hardscape and softscape on our backyard. While we were skeptical about a chimney/hardscape company doing softscape, they assured us it was one of their specialties that they did all the time. They even advertise it in their on-hold telephone messages. According to BS's contract, the project would take no longer than seven weeks to complete. The project started on 7/1/10, plant installation took another four months and the final walk-through didn't occur until month nine. Despite the project moving extremely slowly, we were asked to pay the final invoice three months into this nightmare. Per the contract, this invoice was not due until the project was completed so we, of course, refused. Our project was never officially completed. After eight months without the backyard being finished, it was obvious we needed to get rid of BS. There were clearly problems with the irrigation and they still hadn't delivered all plants. We hired another landscaping company to finish the project. It cost us $7,300 to get the missing/dead plants installed, the irrigation fixed and the rest of incomplete/sloppy work repaired. That's in addition to accepting subpar concrete work where the finish was uneven, large aggregate was left exposed and chunks of aggregate have already dislodged from the matrix. The original woodwork was of extremely low quality to the point where the gate BS replaced was not plumb or level and was sticking after only two days. The plant installation was abysmal and it took four months for BS to come out and attempt to complete the irrigation and plant installation. At that point, a significant number of plants had already died due to insufficient water and poor installation. On top of this eight-month ordeal, we also had many substitutions of plants and materials made without our consent. Over half of the plants were downsized with zero attempt on BS's part to notify us or compensate us in any way. Significant changes were made to the irrigation and lighting as well. Again, all without notification and no attempt to make it right. The money we paid to have the backyard repaired and completed and the cost of all plant and materials omitted amounted to $18,400. It was an awful experience, and the only reason they're getting a D rather than an F is there are actually contractors who take your money and do no work. BS merely took our money and did crap work.

We haven’t run the fireplace since the work was done. They came here. They have a foreman who speaks English. He had a bunch of different jobs, so he wasn’t here most of the time. The 2 small guys who worked here got down into the space where the chimney pipe goes. They sort of go down there and fix the chimney pipe. They took it all out and put all the new pipes in. It is not a job that I would want to do, but it seemed like they were sort of lazy. I found a 12-ounce soda bottle full of urine up in the crawlspace after they were here. They could not communicate when I was trying to ask them if they had done it right, and I found the urine. The job got done right only after I made the foreman come back at the end and go over everything with me. He opened up everything and verified it, so the job was done correctly. In the long run, it took twice as long as they said it would. The first time the foreman came out it wasn’t done correctly and then he made them do it all again because it was still the same problem where the chimney wasn’t put on correctly. They are really the only people in the area, and they have a good reputation. However, if there was anybody else in the neighborhood, I wouldn’t ever use them again. It was uncomfortable, and I was frustrated the whole time. They are 60 miles from us, which didn’t help. It is far, but they do advertise out here.

We were going to retile our fireplace and as a precaution we decided to have our fireplace inspected. Both Boston Brick and Stone and Foothill Fireplace reported that our fireplace was severely damaged in 3 different places. We received an estimate to rebuild the chimney from both companies, both who came highly recommended to us. We were impressed the professionalism of both companies. We decided to use Boston Brick based on their price for the project. Boston Brick did an excellent job. They passed inspection by the city every time and our neighbor, who is an engineer, was impressed by the quality of their work. They were punctual and neat. I highly recommend them. From start to finish, they were great.

I would say that this is probably the BEST experience I've had with craftsmen in our house. Not only were they always on time and efficient and clean, but their work was exemplary. Both another contractor I had at the house and the city's building inspecter commented to me on what a great job they'd done. When it was determined that their bid under-represented the work needed, they offered to do that additional work at no charge to us. The end product is far better than I expected. Would use them again in a heartbeat.

Mark came out to give us an estimate and was able to provide pictures of a similiarly constructed wall that they had just put up. This was very helpful in being able to decide exactly what we wanted. The scheduling and billing were handled by the office in a very organized and professional manner. Stanley was in charge of the project and was very enjoyable to work with and did a great job on the wall. Everything involved in the job, such as demolishing the existing wall, delivery of the rocks and materials, and securing everything and cleaning up at the end of the day went smoothly. I was very pleased with the end result.
