Description of Work: Set up appt to have them come out and give us ideas and estimate. Confirmed time a 2nd time. I took off work to be home for a 1:30pm appt. No one showed up or called .... One week later I still have not heard back from company. Terrible customer service. I would be very leery of utilizing them for a job when they don't follow up initially.

[Member name] contacted us and inquired about whether or not we could help him with the framing of a new garage. We informed him that we are a company which specializes in stair and railing work and that we would not be able to assist him with his garage project. We recommended that he contact a general contractor.

They were very professional and masked off every possible surface before starting. Arturo, the stain expert, tried very hard to match our existing oak stairs to the sample of our very light new maple flooring. Impossible. The new color is fabulous and our stairs look like new. They sent 4 men and it took 3/4 of a day. At the end of the day everything was cleaned up appropriately.
Description of Work: SoCal Stairs refinished our existing stairs, including the posts, handrail, end treads, skirts, etc. They cleaned and fine sanded, then applied a stain and clear lacquer over everything.

I called them and asked if they did stair repair. The gentleman I spoke to said yes, but the minimum cost was $500. I asked if they served South OC and he said yes, but he would have to call me when they were going to be in the area since they wouldn't send a person out there just to do an estimate. He promised to call back and two months later, I'm still waiting. If a supplier can't service an area, then please tell us upfront (and don't mislead on Angie's List!). I thought it was very unprofessional not to follow up especially after taking all my information. After this episode, I will not even give them a chance to bid on my new stairs.
Description of Work: I asked for a bid on stair repair. No work was performed.

Our sales representative, Bill, who received this call, offered to stop by the customers house the next day. The customer requested a few days notice and Bill was looking at his own schedule not seeing an opening for well over a week. It was agreed upon that Bill would get back in touch with the customer within a day or two to schedule the appointment, and Bill forgot to do so. We will be calling the customer to apologize for failing to get back in touch with him. We service all of Orange County, San Diego County, Los Angeles County, Riverside County, and Ventura County. We do have a $500 minimum for repairs, and it is always helpful if we can view a few photos and a written description of the repair needed prior to scheduling an in-person estimate (in most cases the scope of the repair can be determined and pricing finalized via email for small repairs).

As I stated above, SoCal Stairs only provided a bid, but we went with another vendor. I would have them bid on other jobs in the future.
Description of Work: So Cal Stairs was one of the companies that bid on a job to install handrails in my town home. They were very responsive to our requests and provided a very fair bid. In the end we decided to go with another company that had a slightly lower bid, but I would have been happy to use So Cal Stairs and will most likely ask them to bid on any future jobs we have.

Pretty good work, but a bit sloppy on clean up... They left my old rails on my front yard for me to dispose of. Not a great way to finish. Was easier to throw the rails away in my office dumpster than to wait around for them to come back.

I purchased a loft which was in bad shape. I found this company on Angie's List and went to their website. I saw an example of their work on their website which I liked alot. Jacob is the owner and maintains control of the project. He came out and walked the loft with me. I told him what I wanted and he took measurements. He prepared a computer mock-up of what the end product would look like and gave me an estimate. We agreed on the job and price and he prepared a written contract with no price increase unless it was in a written change order. We signed the contract mid-December, 2011. It took about 2.5 - 3 months to complete but I had indiciated I was not in a rush and it was over the holidays. Ultimate end product was excellent. Jacob was attentive during the project and was always available to personally discuss any issues. He is attentive, easy to talk to, and listens well. The price was as per the contract. I recommend this company.

We just purchased a home from the original owners. The home was built in 1975 and had the original wrought iron stair railings. These were not up to current safety codes and wanted them replaced for peace of mind for our little kids to be safe. After looking at 2 other stair companies and receiving quotes we decided on SoCal Stairs. We felt they were overall the most professional from the beginning to end. Bill Summerville was our sales rep, was great at explaining to me many options was patient with me as I was deciding between SoCal Stairs and another company. Not only is he their sales rep but also an experienced installer turned rep. Not only does he sound down to earth, he is/was, and I got a good education on stair installations in general. This is our first home purchase and I probably called and emailed him about 6 times, in length, before we booked. I never sensed that he was annoyed at any of my queries. Overall our installation took 3 days. Brian was the scheduler. He was also kind to talk with and made the scheduling process easy. Celso was the carpenter who took out the old rails, and installed the new ones. Arturo and his crew did the staining, finish, and painted the posts. The balustrades were factory white. Celso has a kind personality. After the second day (staining, painting) I noticed one of the posts looked slightly off and called the office to see what can be done. I emailed them a photo of it. Brian immediately returned my call and said he'll be out the next day (which would be day 3 of installation - as scheduled) to check it out himself. Celso returned on day 3 (as originally scheduled) to install the balustrades, we measured with the leveler and he said that one of the posts was less than 1/16th off. Which could've been with because of the stairs themselves being not quite level. We weren't having the stairs redone, just railings. Plus the house is over 35 years old. They said with the balustrades in, then it won't be noticed. Now that everything is completed, both Brian and Celso were correct. Everything looks lined up. What I have to say is that in all my questions with these stairs, especially with the railings being ever so slightly "off", all the staff at SoCal Stairs made me feel like all my inquiries had merit, value and treated me with respect. I appreciate my railings so much more because of how they handled that particular inquiry. I am so glad I booked SoCal Stairs. Even though they were priced a little higher, it was worth every penny because of the quality of workmanship, professionalism, and customer service I received. Thank you! Update (9/10/2012): Just wanted to reiterate our appreciation for SoCal Stairs and going the extra mile. Over this past year, we've had balustrades pop out of the shoe rail. Owner Jacob Shears was extremely gracious, patient, professional in listening and explaining as we spent 45 minutes on the phone at the end of a business day trying to figure out what the cause of why this was happening and solutions. "Why" was because my kindergarten age and younger daughters decide they want to "walk" on the shoe rails, thus loosening the balustrades. SoCal Stairs came to fix the loose balustrades. We're probably the exception and not the norm. We are still very satisfied with our purchase and installation. It still meets our needs and goals of safety. We continue to be satisfied that we hired SoCal Stairs. Our project was essentially finished a while ago they still backed up their work and very professional. Never did the owner make us feel bad, or blame us. He was very gracious, respectful, and truly worked with us to figure out the best solution. We really appreciated it. Thank you, again, SoCal Stairs!
Description of Work: Removing of original wrought iron stair railings. Replaced with new oak wood hand and shoe rails, stained and finished; painted white balustrades; painted white box newel posts.

We were very pleased with SoCal Stairs work. Bill, the sales representative and estimator that they sent, was knowledgeable, courteous, friendly, and professional. Bill has obviously worked on more than a few stairs in his life. He demonstrated foresight, such as letting us know that the new straight/stainless banisters would show out-of-parallel problems with the mounting holes that our old turned-wood banisters would hide. He measured the existing banisters for parallel, let us know exactly where it wouldn't be perfect, and provided a very reasonable plus-service option to correct it if we wanted. The job went well. There was a single unplanned delay of a few days, but they let us know about it quickly and kept us posted on status. The end result is a very good looking set of stairs that perfectly matches our new wood floors. The entertainment center refinishing/refacing also went very well, and matches the adjacent kitchen cabinets perfectly. We live in a gated community that has a significant set of rules from the HOA. Despite that, we had no problems at all and the guys did a reasonably good job of picking up. The only, *minor*, things that could have been improved: - Minor delay compared to the original schedule caused us to have to slip some other planned work. - They did not haul away their own garbage. I would recommend SoCal Stairs, happily to any member of my family. Thank You, SoCal Stairs !
Description of Work: We asked SoCal Stairs to do two projects for us on this contract: 1 - replace wooden banisters with stainless steel banisters, and to refinish all the woodwork, including handrail, on the single-story spiral staircase in our house. The refinish was to match the new wooden floors we just had installed. 2 - refinish and reface a built-in entertainment center to match our newly refinished kitchen cabinets.

Our staircase was too steep and not up to code. It was ugly and unsafe. The two walls on each side of the stairs made the hallway space feel closed-in. There were limitations in ceiling height and floor space at the foot of the stairs which made the job design challenging. I wanted to have the two walls on each side of the stairs knocked down to open up the space and also to have the stairs turn outward (L-shaped) into the living room. I wanted the overall look to be traditional to match the appearance of our home (classic Tudor). Jake was the only one who gave a prompt reply and clear plan on how to get the job done (genius, with a good eye for aesthetic appeal). He explained everything clearly and answered all questions well. Jake worked with my ideas and gave appropriate suggestions which produced an exceptional final product. The SoCal team (including Jake, Brian, Alfonso...) is professional, pleasant, prompt, and knowledgeable. We are happy with the work and the cost of our staircase remodeling project. EVERYONE LOVES OUR STAIRCASE!!! The staircase looks sooo good that people think that it is part of the original house and that it adds a lot of charm to our house. I would highly recommend SoCal Stairs.

We were happy with the work. The Contractor had to change the schedule twice, but that was not a problem. The initial schedule showed three days of work, with the last two being half days. However, the Contractor changed it to two consecutive full days. The Contractor subbed out the finishing work. The finisher did not show up as scheduled the second day, which changed to schedule again. The work was completed the third day. The Contractor disposed of the old bannister, and cleaned up satisfactorily. When there was spot patching and painting required due to the old bannister removal, the Contractor completed the repair work even though it was not included in his bid. I should have looked a bit more closely at his bid, otherwise I would have asked for it to be included in his bid. I expected wall repair work due to the old bannister removal to be included in the job.
Description of Work: Replaced bannister for interior stairs. Included new balusters, four posts, and railing. One landing halfway up the stairs.

Kevin and his guys at SoCal Staris were a pleasure to work with. They were patient and understanding despite many detail desgn changes. kevin or one of his guys always calls back, usually within minutes, in the event that he doesn't answer. They were always on time and their esitmates of how long the job would take were always accurate. One of the best contractors on my big project to work with. i think their business is focused exclusively on staircases. Our staircase wooden handrail with decorative wrought iron balusters turned out great. I highly recommend SoCal Stairs.

I had a horribly ugly set of stairs and saw a photo on the SOCAL Stairs website that inspired me to do try the design. I was impressed with how fast the company responded to my request. They were prompt at our first appointment - Kevin discussed the entire process and helped me determine certain ways that we could save money on the entire staircase. The quality of the work is amazing the entire team was super professional and I love how the stairs turned out. Thanks Kevin, Brian, Miguel & Arturo!

We are very pleased with the results. Kevin came over twice with samples and pictures to help us decide on the style details. He was very personable, friendly, and offered suggestions which we appreciated. Prior to ordering the materials, I changed my mind about the style of the posts which was no problem. The stair rail and handrails were installed in one day. To insure stability, the wall was opened up and the handrail connected to a 2 x 4. The following day, another worker was sent to stain the handrail to match our floor. They really did a custom job as they adjusted the stain in certain areas to achieve the look I wanted. I would highly recommend SoCal Stairs.

From the moment Andy Pike at So Cal Stairs came to our home to give an estimate he was completely professional. He was able to educate us on the process of a stair remodel. He give us information that helped us to make decisions about the remodel that we would not have thought of. The communication from start to finish was excellent. The quality and workmanship is impeccable. The crew was always on time and left our home in good condition. I have recommended So Cal Stairs to many people and will continue to do so.

In late January, I sent a general email to several stair contractors, asking for a rough estimate for a stair remodeling job. Jake was the first carpenter to reply (impressive). He quickly emailed me a rough estimate for the work, and followed through by responding immediately to every single question I had by email or by telephone. By mid-February, I was ready to meet with 4 stair contractors for detailed estimates. Jake arrived on time to his appointment and brought a large book containing photos of previous jobs and catalogs of stair parts, as well as a list of over a dozen recent references for me to contact. He listened to my comments and concerns, and gave me many good, creative ideas for addressing my concerns and making the stairs safer and more attractive. It was clear that he really cares about providing excellent service for his customers. Jake let me know exactly when I would receive his final bid. His price was competitive with the other bids. It was hard for us to make the final decision. Although we eventually chose another contractor, it?s clear that Jake?s stair work would be far more than satisfactory.
Description of Work: Received an estimate for remodeling interior stairs plus balcony and entryway balustrades
