On the final visit to my condominium unit, Julio Gonzales was working on another project within the building. Instead of coming up to manage the repair to my kitchen sink faucet himself, he sent up his assistant to perform the repair, a man who I had never met. During the repair, I was momentarily away from his assistant to talk to Mr. Gonzalez on the telephone--about a minute. During that time, his assistant stole a very valuable ring from a nearby counter. An hour or so after he departed, I discovered the theft and called Mr. Gonzales and notified him that I intended to file a police report, which I did with him and his assistant later that day. At the police station, Mr. Gonzalez disclosed that he did not know the immiration status or work eligibility but did offer to subject his assistant to a polygraph (lie-detector) test to relieve him and his assistant of liability. I scheduled and paid $350 for the test, an amount I was assured would be paid by Mr. Gonzalez if his assistant failed the test. According to the polygraph report, his assistant "failed dramatically." I have yet to receive compensation for that cost. After initially agreeing to me, my building manager and my attorney that he would indeed compensate me for the loss, he hired an attorney who served me with a letter claiming that I had manufactured the whole incident for the purposes of extracting money from him. It also threatened me with a malicious prosecution counter-suit if I pursued any claim against Mr. Gonzalez. Needless to say I am indeed pusuing my legal options vigorously. To anyone considering hiring this man to perform any work, beware!
Description of Work: I hired Julio Gonzalez of Unique Plumbing to replace a kitchen faucet for me in February. After it was installed, the handle to the faucet kept coming off and he had to return to my unit to reattach the handle on three or four occasions. (I finally had to fix it myself.) Although I work from home, I considered having to repeatedly reschedule him to come to my unit somewhat vexing.
