Never got estimate! Made two appointments and they did not show up! I had to call and they said got busy so need to reschedule. After second time of this I cancelled!

The work was great. Izik and his team showed up on time, listened intently to what we needed and created a great hand rail up a set of curved stairs.

Perfect. Came out gave an estimate. Promised installation by Valentines Day and was two days early. Gate looks great. Workmanship is top notch.

Phase 1 of the fence was perfect. we paid about half the cost for this portion of the work and the spacing was according to the contract 3" which is specifically what we had written into the contract. We then singed up for phase 2 which was the largest part of the work and much more fencing and gates. we specifically asked for the same sizing as the phase 1 work and we made sure it was added to the contract to keep the sizing the same. So that it matched P1 but more importantly so that our dogs to not escape. They changed the size of the spacing to 4" in phase 2 which was not agreed to. we were out of the country when they completed and they keep pestering us for payment so we made the final payment without being on site to inspect and when we got back and saw the sizing issue we contacted them but they said they cant fix it now as its too expensive and cant be redone/ they offered to put chicken wire around the fence. After spending more than 20K i dont see why i should have chicken wire around my year. The contract specifically states 3" and we have that singed by both parties. we plan to take them to court and sue them for breach of contract. We also would not deal with them again as they were very unethical basically telling us its our problem now and we cant do anything about it since its too late. They basically came back and said tough luck you cant do anything about the mistake.

We very much loved working with this company. Initially with Jack's vision for our beautiful front railing.. To the gentlemen who worked hard at installation & the finishing touches & paint. Couldn't be happier.

Great. Men were on time & worked throughout the day to insure curve was correct and that railing would be safe.

I called to make an appointment for an estimate and was told the estimator can only come during workweek ( I couldn't do it because I work) or I would have to wait over 2 weeks for a the next available Friday appointment. We set up an appointment for Friday May 19 for 12 p.m. On May 18 their office asked me to move it to 11, which I did. On May 19 I was notified that that the estimator double booked and can't come until later time ( the time that wouldn't work for me). I was offered to reschedule the appointment during the workweek or wait another 2 weeks.

I had used Universal Iron Works ten years ago and was impressed then. I've since moved to a new house and called them again to install a new iron security gate, and I'm still impressed. The owner Izik was the most knowledgeable installer that I had over for an estimate. I did get other estimates before Universal just to see what was out there and no one seemed to know their stuff like Izik. He made amazing suggestions, did design on the spot and was extremely thorough. . . just as he'd been ten years earlier. (I was amazed at other "5 star" people that came to do an estimate. . . some of them sent out reps that really didn't know their stuff, had no creative ideas and weren't entirely sure of their products. . . surprising actually since they were rated so high.) I'm thrilled with the new gate . . . super solid, and because of Izik's brilliant design idea, I now feel totally secure on the property. I think this thing could keep out a bulldozer! If you want a reliable, low pressure, competent, creative, well mannered and reasonable gate installer, choosing Universal is a no-brainer.

All the workmen were on time and professional. They attended to all questions and concerns. The whole process took longer then I expected but the outcome was well worth it. Neighbors have commented that "it is absolutely beautiful". "It is stunningly elegant" etc.

The owner came out and gave us a very reasonable price. The lead time was very reasonable. Installation was quick and professional. They avoided numerous water pipes.

Isik presented a very professional proposal. The workmen came on the day scheduled and installed the fence exactly as promised. It looks great.

In the beginning when he came over he was professional, he took notes and he measured. They did not know I had an appointment for that day and I gave them a cheque for $300. They did not follow up after that and it was disappointed. The service was strange and it turned me off.

Service was difficult to schedule. Though the staff were friendly, Universal Iron Works depends on a messaging service to relay customer requests. In took five calls over a series of weeks to schedule Izik for an estimate. Izik is a good communicator; clear and confident. He does not shy away from providing his opinion, which I appreciate. At the same time, this did result in some challenges. Izik insisted on installing an additional extended antennae to make the system work. The system is identical to the garage door transmitter we have installed in the exact same location, which works fine and does not have a remote antennae. Since the sum total of this installation was more than I wanted to pay, I asked Izik why the antennae was necessary. I felt my concern was minimized and I was told that it was absolutely needed. When the "remote" antennae was installed it was installed 4 inches from the base antennae, inside the garage. When I asked the electrician if this additional antennae actually would improve performance and reliability, I was told it wouldn't. I later found the cable, which allows for the antennae to be *extended* to an exterior location, in the trash. The installation was done professionally and the iron work itself looked great. In their first attempt the installation was not as I recalled discussing with Izik. A conspicuous and unattractive conduit was added to the facade, instead of using existing conduit as I thought Izik and I had discussed. Izik his and his crew were incredibly diplomatic about this misunderstanding, and did not question my desire to have the extra conduit removed. This required another full day of work, and I did not hear one complaint from Izik or his folks. They were totally professional. Once the gate was installed, but when we realized that we must carry a fob with us to get out of the house -- even to take the trash out -- we realized that we hadn't thought through all the aspects of the gate function. I will be adding a request to exit switch, but am reluctant to ask Izik and his folks to do the work because: a.) Scheduling is difficult b.) I do not want to have to defend my request c.) I'm worried it will cost a lot of money or that I'll end up paying for something I don't need d.) it may not be installed in the most aesthetically pleasing configuration I realize that this is nitpicky; and I did not ask challenge Universal Iron Works on my lingering issues -- like why I paid for an antennae I'm not going to use. And, I was otherwise generally impressed by the professionalism of Izik's team. But, in the spirit of supporting Angie's list, wanted to share my experience and my reasons for looking for another contractor to complete the last phase of work.

Went very well, delivered exactly as promised, on time and beautiful results.

We did not have a traditional single gate situation. They worked with us to create a very custom combination rolling & swinging gates for full opening to the RV access area, and included a single smaller gate within the design for walk-in entry. Very unusual...very effective design - it's perfect for us. They were professional and easy to work with, excellent quality. We would definitely refer them to others.

They're excellent work, very efficient, good to deal with and prompt and we were happy with the installation.
