James A Pugliese Painting Contractor

Lisa and I picked several different colors for the different rooms. Because you can't tell much from a tiny paint chip, Lisa did brush-outs for all the colors so we could see what they would really look like. What a difference sometimes! I'm very picky, so in some cases, we had to choose more colors. Lisa was patient and helpful and was great about bringing me brush-outs for the additional colors. When we finally picked our colors (no easy task for me!), they got started and did a wonderful job! They were always on time, and often worked late into the evening to get everything done. James was on the job the entire time, and went over areas 2 and 3 times to make sure they hadn't missed anything. Then he went over it with me. They were careful and and neat, always cleaning up after themselves at night. I did find a few things after they left and they were happy to come back and touch up. I also hired them to do a few additional jobs after the main one was done. And I recommended them to several neighbors and at least two used them, including one with an exterior 2-story house and trim. He was very happy with the service. Two things to improve, but nothing that caused me any serious concerns. 1. When they left at night, they left a couple of large buckets of paint with no secure top, which could have been a serious problem is my cat had found them! 2. On subsequent jobs, there were times when Lisa was difficult to get a hold of, so it took several tries to make it happen (hence the B for responsiveness). Overall, I can't say enough good things about Pugliese and the excellent work they did!

They were fast. The immediate result looked good. There were a few missed spots and it was difficult to get them to come touch up. Very difficult.

My husband did all the arrangements with James A Pugliese Painting Contractor. They had a pretty simple job, they did it, they came on time and they did fine. They charged the same as what they said they would. They did some stuff mixed in for us. No based boards, just basically the walls. We had used another company before and no matter how hard they tried they managed to get flecks on the floor. They were better than them. As far as the industry they were better than average. I would use them again. When they went over the job, the person couldn't remember exactly what color we had ordered, which you would think they would write that down, but I don't want to give them a "B" for professionalism because of that because they did such a good job.

When we purchased our home, we were told that the previous owners had used James A. Pugliese Painting, to paint the outside exterior of our house. After moving in, we noticed some paint was peeling/missing in some areas and contacted James A. Pugliese. I called and spoke to Lisa, James' wife, to set up an appointment to go over the outside touch up areas and to get bids for the other painting work we wanted to have done. I met with Lisa and her son on 6/25/12. Lisa told me their painting work is warrantied/guaranteed for five years and was fully transferable, so the touch up work wouldn't be a problem. During our appointment, I also asked Lisa for bids to do the following: 1) Caulk and seal the entire outside of our home. 2) Paint the entire outside of our home. 3) Paint the entire back deck of our home. 4) Paint the entire patio trellis of our home. 5) Paint all the interior doors, trim and baseboards of our home. After we went over everything, Lisa said she would email bid information to me, so that we could proceed with whatever was decided. After a week had gone by, I still hadn't received any email from Lisa. So, I contacted Lisa again and she assured me that an email was on its way to me. It's been 55 days now and Lisa refuses to answer or return any of my calls or send any bid information via email. It's disgraceful that they're obviously avoiding honoring their guarantee/warranty, even though we were willing to pay them to do so much more than that! After reading their other reviews online, I see they have a habit taking your money and then dropping off the face of the earth. If you like this sort of treatment, then this company is for you. If not, then my best advice is to avoid them in the first place! Update: The phone number listed on Angie's List (650)355-1524 is correct. The number is for Lisa's phone.

They are excellent all the way around. They provide quick and accurate bids. They use good supplies and professional people. The work is excellent.

The estimator, Lisa, was on time, congenial and knowledgeable and left us with a very positive impression of the company.

Lisa came out and provided a detailed idea of what needed to be done and sent an estimate. Their price was very fair based on the 4 estimates I received. James (owner) was on the job much of the time and the crew was extremely polite and professional. They cleaned up each day and left the side yard looking nicer than when they arrived. The house looks beautiful. We've already received many compliments on their work.

WOW. I've never been more impressed with a contractor in my life. James Pugliese's wife, Lisa, met with us on the weekend to give us an estimate. The quote was provided later that evening. It was a bit higher than one other estimate I'd received but they were willing to work with us so that the final price was very competitive. She met with us again on the weekend to select color options. Each of the colors were painted in fairly large blocks onto our house so that we could view them at different times of the day so that we could make our final color selection. They pressure washed our house on the weekend and then the team showed up at 8AM Monday morning ready to go. It is a large team and they work very quickly. James showed up before I left for work that day and re-verified all of my requests. I even left my front door unlocked so that they could put 3 coats of paint on the spine of the door before we got home from work. Trusting a contractor to have full access to your home when you are away at work can be bit scary, but they were totally trustworthy. I got a call at 4PM that day that they were done! My husband got home soon after and James reviewed the entire house with him to make sure that he was satisfied. When I drove up I couldn't believe it. It is an amazing thing to leave your house for work in the morning and come home to completely different looking place. They had power sanded all of the rough areas, sealed around the windows and sprayed and rolled at least two coats of paint on everything. They even painted (with resistant, high quality paint ) some flashing and vents on my roof that the roofing contractor had simply spray painted. Their paint lines were really straight and they didn't over spray onto our walkways or patio. We had new landscaping and we were worried it would get damaged with heavy tarps. It was fine. I differentiate between good customer service and great customer service by the level of support that you get when unexpected things happen. As it turns out, we tried to install a new door bell button the week after they had painted the house. Despite our best efforts we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. We thought perhaps one of the wires had been severed some how during the sanding/painting of the house so we called up James Pugliese painting and asked them about it. They immediately responded by sending out one of their employees (who happened to be an Electrician) at a time that was convenient with us. He fixed the problem in about an hour, rewired the door bell and put on the new button for us. We'll never know for sure what caused the problem but regardless it had to be fixed. They took care of the problem quickly, no questions asked. It was a relief and only under scores their commitment to great customer service.

The existing paint on our house was really really old. I liked that he had his wife come out on the weekend to estimate and she was really friendly and really nice. She turned out a very timely quote. He was on site the entire time while the house was being painted. The crew he had was very good. It took them only 2 days start to finish, with 2 coats of paint! They sealed all the cracks, they worked like a machine! When he pulled up and I went to shake his hand, there were already 4 people working on the house, like I said, MACHINE! He was never afraid to ask us questions about what we wanted. We were pretty set on the color but he actually consulted us with a lot of the pointers and trends he has seen, and we went with a lot of his recommendations, and turned out better than we thought. He is a second generation painter, so he has great experience. He had us get some better quality paint for parts of the house, like window seals that were really cracked, and he used a higher quality product and didn't even charge for it! He is all about doing the job right. There were a lot of little things that weren't included in the quote that once they got in, needed extra attention and we didn't see a single extra penny increase. They are perfectionists. He was constantly going around the house looking at the work telling his guys to redo stuff that didn't look right. Overall, it was a really good experience. I would absolutely use him again in the future. I was actually recommended to him by a friend, who is a contractor.
