Wouldn't recommend using Mike's unless you're desperate, and prepared to pay the cost. Good service, VERY unreasonably-high prices. They charge $95 just to come out and make a diagnosis. This amount is then supposed to be subtracted from the total.  They charged us $174 labor for two visits, totallying less than 30 minutes--the first 10-minute visit to initially diagnose the problem (which we already knew, and had verified by PGE) and one 10-15 minutes the next day to replace the part; plus $100 for the part.

I have had Mike's Appliance to the house at least 5 times in the last 8-10 years to take care of my rather troublesome Bosch and Kitchenaid appliances. I won't lie to you, they are not cheap: they work at book rates on time like a car dealership does and charge 95.00/hr. This is evidently the accepted practice. They are very good at what they do and keep promised appointment times and the service people that they have are courteous and competent. The dispatchers are also very efficient and helpful. The last time, I couldn't be here and they worked with me to have the service done by entering through a side door left open. I trust them and every repair they have done fixes the problem. They will tell you whether or not they can repair something, whether it is worth it to repair or not.

Mike's Appliance repaired a microwave oven for us about 10 years ago, but the bad taste is still there.  The repair did not cost us anything, as the unit was under warranty.  This happened so many years ago, I cannot recall all the details explicitly.  However, I do remember the repair took months, not weeks.  Everytime we called for a status report, we had to repeat who we were, how long they had had the oven, etc.  (We were already in the age of computers.)  Everytime I repeated the story, the response was always the same:  it was as if they never heard of us.  This is my favorite part:  when I asked to speak to the owner or manager, I was told he was not in.  When I asked for his last name, I was told she didn't know it, because it was too hard to SPELL!!

Very badly. I called Monday for an appt. They gave me an appt. for Tuesday. Then, they called back and asked to change it to Wed. because they said they had a call that was an emergency. I agreed to wait, even though it meant that I had no use of my stove/oven. I arranged for someone to be here to meet them on Wed. They called at the hour that they were to be in my house saying that they didn't have the parts to do the work. Apparently, they waited to the very hour to check on the parts rather than checking Monday, when I called. Then, they pushed the appt. up to Friday. I arranged for someone to be here Friday. When I got home, I discovered that they had replaced the gas line, but the ignitor they put in left me with one of the exact same problems that I had called them for, which was that the broiler took a while to turn on and then shot out flames, which it shouldn't do. Not only that, but the workers left the stove so far out that it was blocking my kitchen drawers and I couldn't open them! I called them immediately and they said they couldn't come out until Friday next to fix this! That left me with a week of not being able to access my skillets, coffee making utensils, or pots and pans. They said that on Friday, they would send the guys to push in the stove and then someone would call me about the ignitor, and that I should leave my house unlocked "We do it all the time," so that they could get in. I came home Friday to find that they had never shown up and they hadn't called me about the ignitor. Meanwhile, they cashed my check. Ten years ago, when the stove was under warranty, this same company simply refused to call me to make an appt. to fix the broiler. Finally, Thermador had to call them to get them out here. Obviously, once they have their money, they couldn't care less about the customer.
Response from Mike's Appliance
"Sometimes when we have an emergency, meaning a custmer's refrigerator quit cooling, we want to get out there as soon as possible because they are loosing food, could be hundreds of dollars if they just went shopping. We don't think that any other call has less priority. A lot of our customers are repeat customers & our technicians have been working for this company for over 5 years so the customer will recommend leaving the door unlocked or key under the mat, so we will make the recommendation in return. We don't mean to make the customer feel uncomfortable but this allows the customer to not miss work, we know that their job in just important as ours. Yes, the technician should have checked to make sure he had the parts if he knew which parts were needed & they were in stock. Unfortunately, he didn't but again, if we cancel the appointment that doesn't mean we don't care, we just preferred to be prepared & in this case he wasn't prepared & had to cancel the appointment. The technician replaced the gas line without replacing the igniter because its possible he didn't think the igniter was necessary. Sometimes we have to replace one part before we know another part is needed. I don't show the service call as being called in by THERMADOR but that doesn't mean it wasn't. Sometimes the manufacturer will call us as a courtesy to the customer, it doesn't mean we never returned the call to the customer when they left a message. We may have called the customer back and left a message but she may not have checked her messages, that often happens. Yes, we should have come out immediately to push the stove back into place, not sure what happened & why the customer had to wait. Just because we have collected our money it doesn't mean we don't care abot the problem. Please keep in mind that our service charge for diagnosis is included in the cost of repair. So for example, her repairs were $323.65, $95 of that is the diagnostic fee & she would have had to pay if she didn't proceed with the repairs, so to continue with the repairs it was $228.64. Some companies charge their diagnostic fee on top of the cost of repairs, so with another company the repair charges could have been $418.65. If the customer doesn't call us to advise they still have a problem, we cannot return to fix the problem. Sometimes there may be more than one problem but will not be seen until the first problem is resolved. thank you, Mike Mazzitelli owner We care very much for our customers, they keep us in business."
