+ -1 moreDidn't go at all. I cancelled the job because Solid General Construction didn't respond to my calls for an appointment. I never did speak to anyone. In fact, their recorded answering message says they don't make return calls until Fridays. But Fridays came and went with no return calls. They did make 1 call whenI wasn't available and left a message about phone problems (unlikely over that period of time!) By that time I'd lost faith in them.

+ 12 moreMy first interaction with Nick, the owner, was when he came to my home to give me a price estimate for work that I wanted done. Nick was very personable, attentive, and knowledgeable as I walked him through the house showing him the various improvements needed. Nick was extremely prompt in providing the written price estimate. Compared to other estimates I had received, Nick’s overall estimate was comparable. My deciding factor to go with Solid General Construction vs. another company was Nick’s personality... come to find out, the entire team at Solid General Construction are friendly, polite, knowledgeable, and skilled. There were no bait & switch surprises… the price estimate that was provided was what I got. After projects were started, there were a few add-ons that I requested, and each time Nick provided an accurate estimate for the add-ons. I had a fairly long list of home improvement projects that needed to be done. Prior to starting, Nick had provided me with a calendar schedule outlining all of the projects with dates as to when they would begin and be completed. Nick stuck to the schedule and actually finished the work a week early. Solid General Construction’s work was done well, on time, at a good price, and by a talented team. I would recommend them to anyone who has home improvement needs… I will definitely use their services again.

+ 5 moreThe job went great from start to finish. One thing that I really appreciated was Nick's attention to detail and general cleanliness. We have grand kids coming in and out and we were concerned that there would be wood scraps and nails that could hurt the kids. We were pleased to see that every day when they were finishing up they loaded all the debris into a trailer and used a magnet to get all the nails. We have had some not so great experiences with larger companies and wanted to use a smaller crew where the actual contractor would show up to do the work, and that's what we got. These guys are some good guys. It is nice to have a family crew come out and do a great job. Thanks so much fellas!
Description of Work: Nick's crew came out and re-did our patio cover. It was getting old and rotten and needed replacement. Nick had some great ideas on how to build it in such a way that it would not cause dry rot the way our old one did.

Description of Work: I used Solid General Construction (Nick Bossio, owner) to replace 121 feet of fencing, after seeing them recommended on Nextdoor neighborhood . He gave me an estimate of $4,525.00 for a premium Board on Board style fence. HORRIBLE experience!!! Used bad materials, worked in the rain, buried fence boards in the mud, some up to 5" deep, nails protruding through on my neighbors side of the fence, nails everywhere, etc. When I requested the owner (Nick) to come out and see the problems, he basically said no at first...came out for a few hours the next day, dug some boards out, replaced a few boards, fixed the gate, thought we were good...until I found myself digging out more boards and finding more bad workmanship. The gate started rubbing again, more and more of the bad wood became apparent. 11 weeks of email nightmare, and his offers of fixing a little of this and that but not taking responsibility for all the problems, he told me to purchase the needed wood, because I was too picky, he would have his brother do the repairs and reimburse me for the wood. I purchased and they replaced over 100 boards and reimbursed me. I worked at the Dept. Of Consumer Affairs for over 25 years and was not going to let him bully me into letting his bad workmanship and unprofessional attitude scare me into letting this all go..... I had the other side of the yard completed by another contractor and WOW, what a difference! Perfect work, no mess, timely, great attitude, and less expensive...Buyer beware...always protect yourself...

Their work is of the highest standard. In addition, they were extremely nice people to work with. I'd hire them again and they will always be the first I go to when I need work done at the house.

If you don't want the small jobs then stay off Angie's List. Don't even bother because this guy won't be interested if your job is under 1K. Waste of my time!!

Description of Work: Because of the storms in January we had to replace our side fence. We contacted Solid General Construction company for a estimate, they responded in a timely manner. We were very happy with their professionalism and knowledge about what needed to be done for our new fence.

+ 0 moreNick and his crew did an excellent job. They were very professional and finished my new fence in about 1 1/2 days. They were very careful to make sure that everything was straight and that the wood was perfect - I even saw them take down a couple of slats that did look quite right - they used a totally new and different piece of wood. They did an impeccable cleanup and even built me a new gate gratis (new customer!). I would recommend them - and will actually recommend them to my mother who will need a new fence soon.
Description of Work: I had an old fence with rotten posts removed and replaced with a new one. The fence was on the side of my yard and was about 80-85 feet long....I knew it was going to need to be replaced when I moved in recently....it had been patched and propped up. It, of course, fell down with the first big storm after I moved in.

+ -1 moreTook about a week and half to get the work scheduled, but that was understandable with the recent rains/heavy winds along with the work load I bet they had with people like me affected by the storms. On the day of the job, the workers were on time and professional. Took from about 9 am to 4 pm to do the whole job. They initially thought it would take two days allowing for the new foundations to settle before doing the rest of the fence, but the weather was warm and dry enough to hammer it at in one day. Would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to have a fence rebuilt with quality work in a quick and professional manner. Good job guys.
Description of Work: My backyard fence shared with one of my neighbors, about 50 feet worth, fell over after one of the recent Sacramento storms. Found Solid General Construction here on Angie's List with because of their A review status. Reached out using their online form on their website and Nick was quick to respond. Gave him a breakdown of the problem and he setup a technician to come over the same day and give me an estimate (same day, that's awesome!). Estimate came in around what we me and the neighbor were expecting and his professionalism real gave us a good feeling about the company. We needed to remove all the fencing and post foundation, and then install 7 pressure treated 9' posts with new concrete foundations, 21 pressure treated horizontal rails, and 100 redwood dog eared fence boards.

I had two additional posts that needed replacement on the existing fence, and they are now as sturdy as the new ones. Nick and Zach were very friendly and personable. Definitely the company to call if you need a new fence or even a repair.

+ 4 moreFrom the first time I met with Nick Bossio of Solid General Construction , I felt that my wife and I were in good hands. He was patient, personable, and knowledgeable; his price was fair. To say that my intuition proved to be correct would be an understatement. Nick, his brother Zack, and other employee Jesse did outstanding work in removing the old siding from the front of our home, installing new Hardee cement fiber siding and new trim, painting the new installation, and hooking up new exterior lighting. They arrived promptly each morning during the promised period when there was no rain, and finished the job on time. They added extra touches, such as caulking every conceivable nook and cranny, installing metal flashing at the top of the horizontal trim, and affixing routered wooden mounts for our exterior lighting. The resulting curb appeal of our home is remarkable. The finished job exceeded our expectations. Nick and his crew are masters at their craft. It was a pleasure to welcome them to our home, and to see the work evolve to its present state of excellence. My wife and I recommend NIck Bossio and his crew (Solid General Construction) to anyone needing siding or any kind of home remodeling, installation, or repair.
