The price was a little bit higher than what we wanted to pay. Everything else was fine. My interaction with them was fine. The work was fine. They could lower the price.

I wasn't a member of Angie's when I bought my air conditioning/heating unit from Clark Heating and Air about a year ago, so I'll mention it now. I took 5 bids before deciding on the one given me by Jim Lauppe of Clark in Orangevale. I had researched these units thoroughly online, including the wholesale prices of various brands. Jim's bid was was very reasonable. Both he and every technician that did the install was professional and competant, keeping the inside clean, even installing a sunscreen for a window at the back of the house that gets direct sun all day. In that same room, a technician managed to angle the a/c air flow from the vent so I'd receive it exactly where I wanted. I had bought one of the then-new "Nest" home thermostats and though it was a first for the Clark technicians, they figured it out and it worked perfectly. I learned later that a neighbor accepted a bid from a different company that I had checked out before deciding on Clark Heating and Air and paid an extra $7,000 for the same unit. My electricity bills have lowered approximately %18 since Clark installed the unit a year ago. Last month, Chris from Clark came to do our first maintenance visit. Professional and cheerful, he changed the filter, checkout out everything, even cleared leaves from on and around the outside unit. When I casually mentioned the problem I was having removing minerals and soap scum from a bathroom faucet area, he suggested what turned out to be exactly the right product. Were Chris available, he seemed to be exactly the type of wholesome young man I'd like to marry my daughter. The entire experience for this type of major purchase for a home could not have gone better. Clark Heating and Air of Orangevale will always have my recommendation.

3 days at approx 6 hrs per day, Mexican installers worked diligently w/ little oversite frm in house managers(?)not sure why they left 2 installers by themselves to perform all necessary retro Fit functions. Once job complete, inspector would not pass the gas line feed 'size'and Clark Heat n Air did come to survey this issue, but would bill me additionally for correcting the gas line conversion 'mishap'; I had to take out another 'city work permit' on my own time, for this modification (they claimed they were to busy) and they resubmitted a proposal for correcting this 'mishap' and would bill me additionally 1388.00$ for pipe upgrade and 'pan' installation; these 'mishaps' should have been included with a professional installation! Additionally, they would not get me on the calendar to get new line installed, even with my agreement to pay them! I was able to use my own plumbing contractor who billed less than 800$ for same work and now I'm working though 'Cal bond' to get some o this money back--the permit amount plus the 'mishap' amounts! Their lead sales man, Jim L was exceptional and in the beginning he found good solutions to difficult scenarios including 'suitcase' condensor coil (we did not want a roof mount) He was energetic about follow up on getting inspections to pass, but I feel he did not have an organized office. Clark has to date not refunded me the fees billed separately and never received explanation why they did not want to complete this work correciton. I used them as they were highly recommended by friend.

Response from Clark Heating and Air Conditioning
Dear Angies List Subscriber: Hello, With all due respect to , His story is not correct. Here are the facts: had a "water heater" installed by another contractor, previous to our work. Without our knowledge, and with out the Country of Sacramento's knowledge, he had that work done without a permit or inspection. When we performed the work he contracted us to do (i.e. replacing his heating system) we followed the law and pulled a permit. Subsequent to our work there were two inspections by the County of Sacramento and at the second inspection the inspector discovered that did not have a permit for His water heater and a new kitchen range that were installed by a previous contractor. The inspector used the visit he made to inspect our equipment to issue a "correction" to to run a new gas line for the new high-output water heater and obtain a separate permit for that work. Mr. Leggett initially indicated to us that he would have the plumbing contractor "correct" his work. Later he asked us to give him a bid to run a new gas line to the water heater, which we did. After a few weeks contacted us and said he wanted us to make the corrections in-lieu of the plumber and he signed a new contract with us. We scheduled the job for the following month. called us back in two weeks and said he wanted to cancel the contract and that he had a plumber to do the work for less money. We obliged him, even though we had an enforceable contract, and let him out of the contract with no fees of any kind. Months later we received a complaint form from three separate entities: The California Contractors Board, the Better Business Bureau, and the Bond Company. After months of independent investigations by all three agencies for which we were billed over $1000.00, to pay the investigators, they all found that claims against us were completely without merit. was accusing us of the water heater gas line problem and then accusing us of "abandoning" the job. Both of these allegations were so completely ridiculous because we did not install >removed members name> water heater or gas range-top, that work was done by another company! Our attorney has suggested that we have a case for both libel and slander, yet, up to now I have hesitated to go there. I hope will see that, in fact, he is the one who has been unjust to us. What is the moral of the story, you might ask? We'll for us the moral is to ask customer if they had any recent work done without a permit, because it may be detected by the inspectors when they look at the work we do. And the moral for homeowners is: DON"T HIRE AN UNLICENSED CONTRACTOR OR LET ANY CONTRACTOR DO MAJOR WORK ON YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT OBTAINING A PERMIT!!! This is the error committed. But sadly instead of humbly taking responsibility for his error, tried to use us as a scapegoat for his mistake, when in fact WE WERE THE ONLY CONTRACTOR WHO PROTECTED !! How ironic that we get blamed. I hope the Angies List Subscribers will be able to see the truth here. At this point I bear no resentment to , but I do hope he stops the slander! Thank you for reading, Sincerely, David Ball, Owner Clark Heating and Air.

We have used Clark Heating and A/C (Jim Louppe) several times since 2001 for both our A/C and heating needs. Their service has always been outstanding. Our most recent experience was 7/25/13. We noticed our A/C line was backing up and dripping water on the wall and floor. To avoid further damage, we called Clark and requested an urgent service. They were able to fit us in and we received SAME DAY service. Jim called in advance to alert us he was on time for the scheduled afternoon appointment. His service was on time, professional, friendly, and he quickly resolved the issue. Our previous usage of Clark involved Jim in 2001 for replacing a fan blade and 2002 for replacing the outdoor motor. We also had another tech replace our furnace in 2008. We have always been very satisfied and strongly recommend Clark.
Description of Work: Jim Louppe flushed out the condensation drain which was backing up because of silt accumulated over many years. He checked the entire system and replaced a failing contactor. Our A/C system is original to our home purchased in 1976 (37 years old!) We attribute it's longevity to our regular changing of A/C filters and the very competent service we have received from Clark on an as needed basis in 2001, 2002, 2008 and 2013.

Clark showed up 5 days after we initially called. After diagnosing the prooblem, Clark's representative was very ambiguous as to the timing on the fix given a problem with the maufacturer. We were told it would be several weeks before we could expect anything. Clark's only solution was to recharge our broken system so that the freon could leak to the atmosphere but that will cost you $800 and is not guaranteed to work. After several weeks we call back to find that Clark knows nothing and has not followed up. We got the phone number for their supplier given they were not concerned with our problem. The conversation at this point became confrontational as we were not given the opportunity to discuss the matter with Clark's ownership. Instead we were only able to talk with the new receptionist who was not prepared to deal with the conflict. Clark's owners knew that we were upset but refused to call us back despite our repeated requests to talk with the owner. We just wanted to get an answer as to what the situation with the coil was and what Clark's intentions were as to charging for this work and what was under warantee.. We were told the expected deliivery of the replacement part was 2 weeks. So we waited 33 days before we called back on June 18th. We contacted Clark,s supplier on June 25th and found that the replacement part was due to be delivered on June 25th. Clark was informed that they needed to schedule the install so I could make arrangements to have someone present while we were out of town. So Clark's confired that the part was in and for us to call back on Tuesday to make sure the part was in and to schedule the work. Progress, right? Wrong!! When we call back on tuesday we are told that we need to call back on next Monday to schedule the install with their service department. Their excuse this time was that the rain had messed up their work schedule and they blew us off because we were supposed to be out of town. I told them how dissapouinted I was and that for once it would be nice if someone from Clark could call me to tell me when they would be here would be good customer service. Answer, I'll let them know. It is now 67 days since we first asked Clark for help I call back first thing Monday morning. It has been over 100 degrees for 3 days and it is 95+ degrees in the house in the evening. When I call back, the owner, Mr. David Ball finally has the courage to talk to me at which point he tells me that because we got upset with them and complained to the BBB, they would not help us and that they had no contractural relationship. We are now seeking another contractor to help but given the heat wave, no one can show up for two weeks.
Description of Work: Clark failed to perform warantee repairs to a system a new HVAC system they installed in June of 2011. Clark never told us what the cost would be to complete the warantee work and the owner would not call to explain despite multiple requests. They did not track our part or communicate with us. After we called the distributor and discovered the part had arrived. Clark told us they would not help despite full knowledge that a record heat wave was about to begin. Meantime, we have no air ant Clark has our $10K.

Response from Clark Heating and Air Conditioning
Dear Angies List Subscriber, I have hesitated for some time to respond to this complaint, from [removed member name], because I hoped that after the matter was thoroughly investigated by both the Contractors Board and the Insurance Company, and found to be specious, [removed member name] would amend or remove this review. However, I now realize that I do need to respond. [removed member name] had a new air conditioner installed by us in 2011. On Thursday April 25, 2013 [removed member name] contacted us with a repair issue and requested a service call for the following Tuesday. Our service manager, Jim arrived on Tuesday and diagnosed that there was a leak in the indoor coil. He suggested that we perform a temporary repair for [removed member name] and order a new coil which was under warranty. Jim explained to the customer that coils of this type are typically “made to order” by the manufacturer and that it would probably take 6 to 8 weeks to get it from the factory. However, in the meantime we would provide the service of making a temporary repair as it would probably be summer before the coil arrived. However, [removed member name] did not want us to make a temporary repair and insisted that he would wait for the part. We ordered the coil the very next morning, 5-1-1013, at 8:30 am. In a couple of weeks [removed member name] was calling us almost daily about the warranty coil, which we ordered on May 1, 2013. We again told him that the manufacturer had indicated it would take 6 to 8 weeks and that we would contact him as soon as we get word that it is shipping and then we could schedule putting in the new coil. We also asked him if he wanted us to make the temporary repair to get him cooling, but he continued to indicate to us that he not want to do this. We tried to reassure [removed member name] that we would make sure his unit was cooling properly while we all waited on the replacement coil and that the temporary repair would keep him comfortable in the mean time, and that this was a standard procedure in cases like this, but he refused our help! Unfortunately, [removed member name] was not happy with the fact that the coil would take 6 to 8 weeks, a matter out of our control, and began to blame and accused us of not ordering the coil and “stalling”. We did everything to try and calm his fears and anxieties, always asking if we could just come out and recharge his system temporarily, always he refused. We went so far as to put [removed member name] in touch with the local parts distributor who reaffirmed to [removed member name] that the repair would not void his warranty and that the coil indeed, would take 6 to 8 weeks to be made. We continued to monitor the progress of the coil from the factory to make certain [removed member name] coil would get made and transported as promised by the distributor. In the mean time [removed member name] escalated his anger and threats to us. We tried everything to dissuade him however he continually resorted to verbal and written threats, and frequently cursed and berated various employees. For some reason he seemed to think that we were fabricating the entire story about the coil and the lead time it would take to be made. He went so far as to threaten us with letters and complaints filed with every agency he could find! This just caused a lot of unnecessary expense and heartache, it was as if he was punishing my employees for something out of their control! Finally, when we got word from the factory that the coil would be shipping I called for a meeting of our office staff and the members of the service department that would be installing the coil when it arrived. Universally our staff repeated their own experiences and contacts with [removed member name] and it was clear that they all felt threatened and abused by his continual cursing, and other verbal assaults, and requested that we not perform this work for [removed member name]. The staff felt afraid that [removed member name] was “setting us up” for some retribution, and they were all scared of him! When the coil arrived, I telephoned [removed member name] and explained that the coil had just arrived in town at the distributors and that we would make sure it was available for him or whichever contractor he chose to install the coil for him. I told [removed member name] that we had decided not to perform the coil replacement for him and that any contractor would be able to do the work for him. I went on to relate that by continually assaulting the employees of this company he had created a hostile environment and I was not willing to put my people in harms way. During the conversation I experienced first hand what other employees had said about [removed member name] abusiveness. I wished him well and hung up. That is the story of [removed member name]. We tried very hard to please this man, but my employees deserve to be treated with the same respect I ask them to give to my customers. How can I “force” my people to go into an environment where a person has continually insulted, berated and assaulted them? I can’t. It is very rare that I have had to put my foot down, most people are so reasonable and friendly, just as we are with them. But I can’t expect my employees to work in a hostile environment…no one deserves that. As for the warranty coil on this equipment: we have since stopped installing that brand because in our opinion there should be no warranty issues with equipment, especially within the first few years., and we were not pleased with the time frame it took to get this coil from the factory. We since learned that they had a lot of leaking coils, so we dropped their line from our offerings to assure that we only install high quality equipment. Thank you for reading. Sincerely, David Ball, Owner

Description of Work: Clark Heating and Air Conditioning is a very good company to deal with. The technician was on time and very professional. He determined that we had a freon leak in our air conditioner. He gave us a worse case senerio when it came to cost for the repair. It turns out that the work wasn't that hard and the air conditioner needed freon. The cost was $300 cheaper. Will call them in the future for AC work

Our heater stopped heating this afternoon so I called Clark Heating. The man I spoke with said he'd have a technician call us to let us know he was coming as soon as he finished the job he was on. Within 30 minutes the tech had called and arrived at our house. He determined that the igniter was the problem and replaced it. Keep in mind this was after 3 p.m. on the Friday before Christmas weekend--we were very happy to get this fixed so quickly as we have company coming on Sunday. We've used Clark Heating for many years and this kind of service will keep us as customers for sure.

A gentleman named Chris came as scheduled and promptly tested my whole house air conditioning system that would not come on during 100 degree weather. He found a capacitor not working and replaced it. He also saw that my condenser coils were caked with years of dirt. He cleaned them and was finished within two hours. Before doing any repairs he explained thecosts and showed me how to clean the coils in the future. I couldn't be more pleased with a repairman.

Description of Work: I have contracted with them to do cleaning and maintenance of my A/C system. Generally they have been ok. At the last visit the tech suggested a better filter which I paid for. I was to have a phone call a day or so later to schedule the install. Nothing. I contacted customer service Monday 8/13/12 and was promised a call back that day with information about the order. Nothing. I contacted the customer service dept again 8/16/12 and asked for the supervisor and left a message for him to call me. Nothing. I would have expected much better customer service from this company. Can business be so good they don't care?

Clark was the contractor I went with after getting quotes from 3 other contractors. I had misgivings about the first contractor which estimated the cost of a simular system at around $16k. Other contractors I had out where what I would say are larger operations with professional sales staff. Thier estimates were higher, probably because of higher overhead? After talking with David Ball the owner who came out to test and verify my old unit was not repairable I was thinking I would like to have them do the work as he was very staightforward with what was wrong with the unit and possible fixes. I decided repar was not a good way to go so aske that he prepare an estimate. He came back with a written estimate at very competivive price so it became a no brainer decision. They were able to get out and start work a day earlier then anticipated, got the design worked out for the locations of the registers and returns. They worked very hard with getting the attic access enlarged to accomadate getting the equipment into the attic and even with this kind of messy operation made sure that they placed tarps down and vaccummed at the end of each day. I am really happy with the install as I now can set the temperature lower then I did with our old system and still feel cool. All the folks that came by were very freindly and respectful of our home and time. I have already recommended them to others looking at possibly needing to replace thier old HVAC units.
Description of Work: The work performed was a new spilt system installed in the attic with all new duct work and new registers cut in to the ceilings. They also removed the old package system that sat outside on a concrete pad next to the house in the backyard. The work I had them perform was more then just a simple replacement of the old package unit.

The process flowed smoothly from start to finish.
Description of Work: Clark Air Conditioning and Heating provided me with a comprehensive review of the recommended heating and A/C product for my home. The product works very well in my home. The work crew was very professional and once the work had begun were able to complete the job in a timely manner and finished in the projected time frame given in the estimate. Their price came in several thousand dollars less than the estimate provided by another vendor. In addition, they were able to give more current information on potential rebates and tax credits than the other guys. I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend Clark for the job if you are planning on replacing your heating and a/c units.

They are outstanding. I used to use another company for the heating and AC work and I was being referred to Clark Air Conditioning & Htg by them. It?s a single family run business in Orangevale. I always use them now. They have done an outstanding job for me. I totally trust them in the house and they tell me the truth. There have been times where I thought that they have some things more serious going on and they have explained to me that it wasn?t that. It was some simple thing that cost me a whole lot less. They have always answered my questions on what was going on. The last time I called them was when a visitor felt that there was smoke coming out through my vent. None of my neighbors were having that. It was cold. It?s in the attic and I don?t go up there. So I called them up. They explained to me that it wasn?t smoke and it was the steam. It was because of the 95% efficient heater. My neighbors weren?t having it coming through their vents. They showed me the documentation on it. The technician then told me that he would do a cleaning so that I wouldn?t need to call him back for another year. Otherwise I had to call him back at the regular adjustment time. So I went ahead and did it a little early so that I wouldn?t need to make another service call. He had an opportunity to rip me and he didn?t have to do the service call. He could have come back another time to charge me again, but his company takes good care of their customers. I recommend them to anybody. I would definitely use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: I use Clark Air Conditioning & Htg for my heating and AC work. My last interaction with them was about a couple of weeks ago for having my heater checked out. They did a thorough cleaning and an adjustment. They also explained to me what was going on.
