Gary Lee saw that it all went beautifully. He orchestrated the whole team, even getting the permits and inspections scheduled. In fact, I didn't even know we needed permits until they gave them to me. This project just could not have gone any better. I was afraid that such a huge project would be a huge mess and inconvenience. Gary made it all a pleasant experience, with minimum disruption to our lives during that time, and they certainly did not leave a mess. The excellence in workmanship and high quality of the products used is very noticeable. All of the workmen were very professional and pleasant. We can already feel a huge difference in how quickly the house cools, and how long it stays cools after the unit goes off. The insulation company was great to work with (hate I lost his card) , as was Sean Conrad with Placer Heating & Air Conditioning. Apollo Energies did all the paper work to get our rebates, and they found us a great loan even though we have had a previous foreclosure. This month's PG&E bill is $200 less than our bill this time last year. $40,000 was a lot to spend, but our house looks great with the new windows, and is it evident that it will be saving us a lot of money. . But then, $40,000... it was worth that just to meet Gary! :) Andrew & Vel Garrick
Description of Work: We had a complete energy overhaul: Removal and replacement of all the insulation, new duct work and sealing, new hot water heater, air conditioning and furnace, new pool pump, and new windows. The excellence in workmanship and high quality of the products used is very noticeable. All of the workmen were very professional and pleasant. We can already feel a huge difference in how quickly the house cools, and how long it stays cools after the unit goes off. $40,000 was a lot to spend, but our house looks great with the new windows, and already it is evident that the upgrades will save us a lot of money in the future. But then, $40,000... it was worth that just to meet Gary! :) Andrew & Vel Garrick

I purchased a home recently and found that I needed some things corrected or upgraded. After getting several quotes, I contacted CECS ( California Energy Consultant Services) and learned that I could do windows, heating and air, water heater, and patio cover and I would deal with only one person and one company. A very personable representative named Gary called on me and listened to all that I had to do. They were very efficient and I would recommend them at any time.
Description of Work: Installed a patio cover, replaced the heating and air conditioner, and replaced the water heater.

Had scheduled appointment to get estimate but was running late and called to say he would be late. When he showed up it was almost dark and I felt that the inspection would have been more complete if conducted during the day hour. had a problem with the knowledge of the financing but that was explained to me by the owner about the complexities of the financing. Lance was professional in his appearance and demeanor and called back to check on the status of the work we were looking to do. We had decided to go with a different company.

My wife and I are very happy with the job. Gary Lee was our initial contact and provided our estimate. Gary is very professional and helped us tremendously with the selection of the new wiindows since we changed the styles from some of our old ones. He also accessed very quickly what repairs were necessary to our fix siding issues. Gary was always available for questions and monitored the progress of the job. He really knows his stuff! The installation crew lead by James was great. They were professional, skilled, easy to deal with and always had time for questions. The crew cleaned up each day. We love the operation and look of the Simonton windows. We interviewed three window replacement companies and CECS was by far the best choice based on quality at a competive price. Our neighbors have already gone with them for their window replacement.
Description of Work: We replaced 22 old aluminum framed windows with Simonton Daylight Max 7300 series. 20 of the windows were installed new construction method and 2 installed retro fit. We also had California Energy Consultants replace sections of our T1-11 siding which had dry rot damange.

I absolutely love the job that was done and the Simonton windows that were installed. The three custom windows are non opening windows in the entry and living area and were previously covered by curtains for privacy. Cal Energy installed privacy windows with the Glue Chip design that are absolutely gorgeous. I no longer have to put curtains over these windows and it has turned my cave into a real living area. The difference is dramatic. They also replaced an old sliding glass patio door with a French Slider. This is my favorite aspect of the project. You had to use your entire body weight to open or close the old door. With this beautiful new French Slider I can open or close it with the flick of my little finger. It is truly a delight and gorgeous to boot! The installer even retrimmed the exterior wood and matched it exactly to the other exterior trim. How he knew to have that particular lumber with him I do not know but I was very pleased. I absolutely love the light that the Simonton windows let into my home and the privacy that they provide even with the blinds fully drawn (daytime of course) is spectacular.
Description of Work: California Energy Consultants replaced all of the existing windows in my home (build circa 1983) including the sliders, three custom windows and a sliding glass door.

Each and every project was completed on time and under budget. Our home was shown in one of their brochures. Take a look and see the extensive work they completed to our complete satisfaction.
Description of Work: We first had the company replace every window in our 1970 built California ranch style. We had a curving of windows in the family room that circled one end of the swimming pool. They gave a competitive estimate and excelled in the performance and workmanship. Gary was the representative we dealt with almost every day for over a month. Their windows and workmanship made our house even more inviting and energy efficient. We have used them for a number of smaller remodeling projects. They cut and installed a 12 foot by 8 foot window door in what had previously been a dull light blocking wall. We contracted for a whole new heating and A/C unit. They did a wonderful job. They came right over and took care of even the smallest of concerns we had. I couldn't recommend any window or Heating and A/C contractor more. Russ Miller

Excellent work, efficiently done. These guys are total pros. They showed up when they said they would. They were careful and proficient. They cleaned up after themselves. And every time I had an inspection (one from the city and another from SMUD), the inspector said, unsolicited, that the work was top quality. I requested a couple tweaks to the heating and air and they did them immediately and with no questions asked. It's possible you could find people to do the same work for less (though their price was quite competitive), but I don't think you could find anyone who would do it better. I've already recommended them unreservedly to friends..
Description of Work: Removed existing windows (including dealing with some lead paint) and installed new low-E Simonton windows through whole house. Removed existing wall heaters and sheet-rocked the resultant holes. Installed central heat and air. Installed whole house fan in attic. Installed insulation in attic.

Our very large home improvement couldn't have gone any better than it did! I did need to move furniture away from each window and remove the window coverings so they could have access. You do need to plan time for this, and where you will put the drapes while they do their work. We highly reccomend CECS for their quality of product and professional service! You get what you pay for! We love our new Simonton windows!
Description of Work: We were impressed with the knowledge and confidence Mr Lee expessed to us at the Home Fair at Cal Expo. We had him come do an extensive evaluation of our old windows in our 2 story home. He offered many suggestions and options for us to consider. We decided to have the Simonton Impressions windows installed throughout the house. We liked that this product was made in Northern California, were argon-filled for energy savings, and had a double- lifetime warranty. We had many picture windows changed to casement and double-hung to improve air flow and security. The cost and time estimate came in accurately, and the installers Jason and Omar were polite, friendly nd respectful of my needs to not have the indoor cats escape, and the 2 dogs outside to be away from the action. This install took 2 1/2 days. They cleaned up each area well each day, and vaccumed the floors around the windows and washed the new windows before they left each day!

We met them at a Home Show in Santa Clara and booked an appointment. They came as scheduled for the estimate and promptly gave us a written quote. We picked out the windows we wanted and scheduled a time for them to install. They arrived exactly at 8:00 as planned. The windows look great and they cleaned up after themselves. They were very professional and easy to deal with. They are out of the Sacramento area but living in the Bay Area was not a problem. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to friends.
Description of Work: We had our old double hung windows replaced. All of the bedrooms had 2 windows and we had replaced with one large window. We also had the bathroom and kitchen window replaced, the window box replaced with a regular window and a large plate glass window replaced.

My wife and I are very pleased with what we got from CECS. The house looks great--like a new home. The whole experience was very positive. Gary, James, and foreman Rick were very friendly and professional. They demonstrated that they cared about what we wanted and needed, particularly when a problem occurred. Installation of the new siding on the chimney caused a problem with the roof flashing around the chimney, resulting in a roof leak (that fortunately did not enter the interior of our home). I called James when I saw drips of water and a stain under an eave (during one of the storms). James drove right back and got on the roof with me to trouble-shoot the problem. He got on the phone with Gary, who had a roofer come out right away. The roofer provided a temporary fix that got our house through the next storm. James and the roofer both showed up on the following Monday after the storms had passed and provided a permanent fix to the leak and re-installed siding that had to be removed from the chimney for the fix. During the course of the construction, James suggested several solutions that worked well and look great--such as how to attach the side yard gate latch to the house. And he identified a problem with a drain hole on an existing window. James was a gentleman carpenter - polite, friendly, thoughtful, and very imaginative in coming up with ways to make the finished work look great. He is an outstanding professional craftsman. This man takes great pride in his work. I cannot say enough about the quality of the work he did. I would definitely use California Energy Consultant Services again and highly recommend them. They communicate well, provide lots of information and ideas about how to do the job and make it look great, address problems immediately, and provide great products and high quality installations. And Gary even gave me a couple of 4x4 steel posts to try out in reconstructing my patio cover?a project I am doing myself. These guys like to please their customers!
Description of Work: The owner/salesman of the company, Gary Lee, provided an estimate and brochures showing materials available (siding and windows). Gary also had some sample cement board siding that he showed my wife and me. After I informed him that I wanted his company to do the work, he scheduled a couple of appointments to get information from me about exactly what sized siding, window, and door we wanted installed. The work started on a day arranged in advance with James Wentworth, the carpenter, removing and replacing the damaged plywood siding and 2x4's. James then applied a vapor barrier over the existing plywood siding and began installing cement board trim pieces around windows, followed by the horizontal, over-lapping, cement board siding from the ground up to the eight foot mark. Above the eight foot separator trim piece, he installed the shingle style siding for the gables, as my wife and I had requested. Both types of siding are James Hardie products. James, the carpenter, not the Hardie, reinstalled the exterior lights after attaching the siding. He custom made the siding cut-outs or trim pieces for the lights and electrical outlet. He cut special holes to accommodate the antenna and speaker wires going out the back of the house. He replaced a warped fascia board along a roof line, replaced a door, and installed a new window that looks very much like the original 1984 windows. He also replaced an old, ugly attic vent on the front of the house. And James hauled away all the trash and debris of old trim and siding and waste cement siding that we did not want. Due to a series of rainstorms (about three series in four weeks), the project lasted about a month.

Excellent Job turned out better than I could hope for from start to finish.
Description of Work: I have 45 years in the construction industry. A three man crew did the work at my residence in the Villages San Jose Ca. Jason, Roger and Omar. I oversaw the project from start to finish They did a wonderful job. They are all top notch installers and they pay attention to small details. The crew is very clean and quickly clean up after themselves as the project moves from demo to new installation. I would recomment this company to anyone who is looking for Window Work. Their South Bay Estimator Lance Newey is who I would ask for and for sure try to get Jason, Roger and Omar. Spencer is the scheduler and he said monday morning and the crew arrived at 8am Monday after traveling 120 miles to get to my house. We had several window companies come out to our house and provide estimates for replacing a leaking bathroom window. CECS provided the lowest bid for the job, and the window they proposed installing was the equal of the windows from the other companies. The salesman took measurements of the window and told us that it would take three weeks for the new window to be manufactures to our specs. Three weeks later I was able to make an appointment for the installers to come out to install the new window. They showed up on time, were careful to remove the old window without doing any collateral damage, and were very good about controlling waste and debris. The new window fit perfectly into the opening -- it's always nice when the original measurements are accurate -- and was installed quickly and neatly. From start to finish, the process was done very professionally. I'd definitely use CECS again if I had any other window replacement issues.

The Bay Window looks great. However, the process in getting the work completed to my satisfaction was a bit of a challenge (and I was not being overly picky, but I was careful to review their work at each stage). The company had to do almost every major part of the job twice before they did it to a satisfactory level. First, the interior tape and texture work around the new window left very visible seams. They returned and did it correctly after I pointed this out. Next, the crew that was assigned to the original installation was replaced when the company found out that the County Building Inspector would be reviewing the outside framing. A different crew came out several days later to install the outside framing (which did pass inspection). I wondered about the work the original crew would have done if I did not arrange for the Inspector to inspect the work. Also, the proposal indicated that they would match the color and texture of the outside stucco wall around the window. However, the first time they put white stucco on a gray house. After I pointed this out, a different employee came out to match the house color as they had originally promised (and did a nice job). Finally, the original stucco crew failed to seal spaces around the window, so water and insects could have easily come in. After I contacted them and told them of this, someone returned a second time to seal the spaces around the window satisfactorily. I graded them "A" for Responsiveness since they addressed each of my concerns to my satisfaction. However, it would have been much easier on everyone if they had done the work correctly the first time (which is why I gave them a "C" for punctuality). Also, the estimated time of work was three to four days. Actual time until all work was completed to satisfaction... more than four weeks.

Asked three companies to provide us bids for replacing several windows, sliders, and doors in Davis, Ca. Chose CECS because they seemed the most knowledgeable about windows and construction. We had a custom garden window installed in 1998, which had an aluminum frame and four large windows that were not energy efficient by today's standards. Among the bidders, only CECS offered a complete solution to this problem. We chose Milgard windows and sliders, given their outstanding lifetime warranty. Bryan Gore was our salesman and came up with the creative solution to the garden window. During the initial phase of the project, we ran into a problem in that a slider and window were incorrectly ordered. However, the owner at CECS Phillip Isaacs called us right away to assure us that corrective measures were already being undertaken. Subsequently, the project was completed without delay and they did a really excellent job. Not to mention, their stucco guy not only patched up the area associated with the new sliders but took care of a stucco issue (for free) that was created by me when I remodeled my master bathroom years ago. Also, they were nice enough to install a second door lock into the new front door without charge. In all, they took responsibility for their mistakes, and I sensed a real dedication to making the customer feel that they were getting a quality job and a good experience. Finally, they provided lien releases for the materials and any subcontractors used on the job. This is no trivial matter, as many contractors do not want to deal with the extra paper work and the aggravation inherent in this process. In fact ,the other bidders, were not interested in providing these releases and it was a reason for their exclusion. Now I know most folks don't insist on lien releases at all, or for projects of this limited scope. However, when I built a custom home a few years ago in a new development, several general contractors went out of business leaving the home owner to pay for materials and labor twice. It's a real bonus when you find a quality construction company which provides these documents when asked. For these reasons and more, I highly recommend CECS for your remodeling project.

We chose them based on the services they offered and the price that the employee who came out gave us. They were professional and fast. They did a good job. We had to reschedule the original installation date because the City of Davis permit office was closed for the Holidays. The installers were very good about the inconvenience; the work was rescheduled for the first day the permit became available, and everything went well from there.
Description of Work: CECS installed five windows and three doors at our Davis home. The installed windows and doors were made by Simonton. We were extremely pleased with both the salesman, Brian, and the installers. The work was done when and as promised, with very little disturbance. The clean-up was thorough, and the entire experience was pleasant from start-to-finish I would cheerfully recommend these folks to anyone looking for replacement doors/windows.

The sales manager, Gary Lee, met with me and explained their products and services. He was very professional and I appreciated that the appointment did not take 2-3 hours, as was my experience with another company. CECS had installed windows in my mother's home and she is very happy with them. I also found their pricing to be reasonable. The windows arrived within the 3-week time estimate Gary gave me and were installed on December 14, 2011, with the exception of two windows that had not made it onto the work order for some reason. The installer said they would be back within a day or two to install the missing windows. I did not hear from anyone for several days and called the office on December 22. I was told the windows had arrived that day and someone would contact me to set a time for installation. I called again on the 27th or 28th because I wanted the job completed by the end of the year and the windows were installed on December 29. After the December 29 installation, I found cigarette butts near the front and back doors, which I found unprofessional. I am very happy with the windows!
Description of Work: Complete replacement of windows in a rental home that is being converted to a personal residence. They installed 11 windows and one patio door, and removed and disposed of the existing windows and window coverings.

Service was excellent from start to finish. I needed to replace a cracked patio door just before Christmas, plus get an estimate for replacing the rest of the old windows in the house later. I saw online that many small contractors preferred Simonton windows over other low and mid-priced brands, and from there found CECS on Angie's List. I stopped in at the CECS showroom to look at their options and Gary Lee took me through them in detail and provided a general estimate for the replacement door. Gary came out the next week to take measurements and do an estimate on the rest of the house. It was going to be tight getting the door from the factory and installed before Christmas, but CECS called to let me know they could do the job on the 20th. The installer came on time and did a great job taking out the old door and neatly installing the new one (including chipping out the grout between the old aluminum rail and the tile patio floor). The new door is a huge improvement and has been working great. Now, onto the rest of the windows ...
Description of Work: Replaced patio slider with Simonton low-e door.

They were not pushy. They told us about their product and what they would do and how the company would stand behind them. They just gave us the information and let us make up our mind. They were excellent and Dick Lee was the one we dealt with. They came in, did the job in the whole house, and were in and out in 1 working day. They came back and did a walk through on it the next day to make sure that the work was done to his satisfaction. They were good and had the best price because we’d dealt with other companies who were very pushy. They wanted us to sign up that day and buy the windows and products. When Dick Lee came, it was like a breath of fresh air.
Description of Work: We used California Energy Consultant Service to replace our windows probably about 8 months ago, before summer. They installed all new energy efficient windows around the house.

We were very pleased with all aspects of the experience. I was concerned about price when I was told about new construction vs retrofit, but I was that they would honor the quoted price. The installers were right on time, removed some extremely heavy and large windows. They were very professional and courteous. Our new windows are beautiful and we asked Bryan to stop by and measure some other windows. We plan to do those after the first of the year.
Description of Work: Removed 4 tall angled windows from living room and 2 smaller windows in dining room. Originally we were quoted a price for retrofit windows, but the factory couldn't provide such large windows. So they gave us "new construction" windows instead for the same price. When installing the windows, they decided to replace some wood trim because of minor damage. The trim was replaced and painted.

Quality all the way with superior grade products used. Selected the top grade (clear) of T1-11 siding with no knot holes. Repaired a previously flawed chimney ducting system. Top notch reliable, professional crews were used during every phase of project. Custom built a special service access panel for whirlpool bath. Used Kelly-Moore paint with one base color and two accent colors. Good communication with all crews. Everyone was very clean and picked-up all construction related debris. The sliding patio glass door was beautiful and slides so smooth. The paint crew even painted and touched up the interior molding around the patio door. Bryan Gore of California Energy Consultant Service came highly recommended from a neighbor that had used him for a similar siding project. Bryan was exceptional in coordinating all aspects of this project from start to finish. Great service. Would highly recommend. Would use them again.

The overall this experience is definitely a very positive one. They stood out to me because of the personable employees and I liked that I was able to feel an immediate trust with everyone involved; salesman, to installers to company owner. Bryan Gore, salesman, was my initial contact. I'm not much on salesmen. I avoid them if I can.... but then, don't we all? But this guy Bryan is different. He is nothing short of outstanding! He went above and beyond on the first and subsequent visits. On the first visit he checked my attic insulation for me and furnace age and filters. He even installed my new filters for me. Much appreciated because they are a pain. He wasn't trying to sell me new insulation or a new furnace system. He was just concerned that my home conserve expensive and limited energy. After installation was completed Bryan came round to inspect and check on my satisfaction. Heck, the company sales president even called and thanked me for my service and a little referral I provided. This is a company that has six crews - and one still gets this level of service. Very impressive and not the norm. I absolutely love my new Simonton windows. Love their looks, love their quality, love their warranty. Now it is so quiet inside since all windows are dual pane and highly energy conservant. It is summertime and my warmest rooms are several degrees cooler without the A/C going than they were before swapping out windows. I understand the windows are designed to take in winter heat and deflect summer heat. Wonderful! I was less than happy with scheduling. I absolutely, positively don't think my situation is normal for this service provider! But it happened to me and I will describe the issues. A legal mandated lead test by a third party company wasn't ordered nor was lack of it discovered timely. The lead test is usually not required BTW. It is based on what's being done and the age of the dwelling. I received a heartfelt apology for lead test oversight and the install crew no show. Yet I cleared and prepped the house for installation a week earlier than installation could begin. Clearing and prepping was a lot of work both inside and out. No mean feat when a senior with disabilities. Plus I then had to forfeit a wonderful fly fishing weekend lodge trip I'd won. This because the lead tester could not test until the weekend so windows could be installed the second Wednesday after originally scheduled. Meantime I'm home but house is a disaster because I lack physical resources to put the place back in shape just to repeat the chaos the following week. Next issue. The install team needed two full days to install my windows and doors. They were allotted only one. Lack of trying wasn't the reason for needing two days. They worked about 13 hours that first day. Could they simply return and complete my work the next day??No! They could not be rescheduled to return until the following week!!! Now my house is a disordered mess, dust, mud and dirt is tracked far & wide with airborne particles settling for days. And I have company coming on weekend! Yes, the guys do clean up after themselves but they are guys. Guys don't get it when it comes to cleanup. They miss the point that the whole house needs vacuumed, dusted and repolished. Its not just the space in front of the windows. Dirt travels by air and foot. I hired a wonderful friend to help me clean and reorder the house for my weekend gathering. The guys returned Tuesday to finish. Later I spent hours reordering my home, cleaning, polishing & troubleshooting dry wall repairs. If scheduling had gone right only one prep and one post cleanup over two days would have been needed. As it was it took three weeks, several cleanups, heavy furniture removals, extended dustings, a forfeited prize weekend and labor costs. If I was younger and not physically limited it wouldn't have been so onerous. But life is what it is. Again, I am sure my experience with scheduling and install is outside of the norm and is one in a million. I'm confident in this because no other review I read described such problems. Despite the scheduling hassles- I would deal with this company again in a heartbeat. They have convinced me by their ethos in every other measure that they are top notch and integrity driven. Their product wins awards, looks fabulous and has a great warranty. Their people are extraordinary. I give them an overall "A" even despite my unusual scheduling mess.
Description of Work: They replaced all windows in my house and one patio door. CECS removed a large bedroom window and replaced it with a french style patio door leading to the garden. Gorgeous. Additionally they replaced two narrow short windows in living room with taller units more appropriate to the scale of the space.

From the start we were very impressed with Gary Lee, the sales representative. The follow-up from the office was right on and the windows were installed a little over 2 weeks after signing the contract. The installers were very efficient and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. We absolutely love the windows and are very happy we made the decision to do the work. We have a southwest exposure in the back of the house but did not want to put up an awning or patio cover so it was extremely warm in the afternoon. It has been a tremendous improvement and I'm sure it will also help our utility bills. The pricing for the particular windows we got was much better than I anticipated before meeting with the salesperson. Because of the excellent warranty I am definitely looking forward to never having to pay for replacement, breakage, etc.
