The electricians arrived on time. The original job was for them to install the dual switch for the ceiling fan/light at the entry door and to stop the fan's wobbling (which they evidently couldn't do but the lead electrician explained the reason--I just don't remember it). When they arrived, I told them that I wanted to expand the job to include putting in a light fixture on the wall (where it looked like a fixture had originally been because of wires sticking out of the wall) with a dimmer switch at the entry door as well as at the garage door. This involved drilling holes through framing in the wall to run the extra line to the light. The lead electrician listened to what I wanted and explained my options and what they could do. Then they got right to work. The job took them about 4 hours. When they were done, they fixed up the drywall and cleaned up after themselves. I have been pleased with the results. The only thing I have a quibble about was the cost. When Steve Cavenee came to my house after I bought the Big Deal for $99 for two man hours to discuss what I wanted to have done, I talked to him about two possible jobs. One was to do the switch for the light/fan in the garage (this did not include the addition of the light fixture on the wall with another switch), the other was to close an electrical outlet behind my A/C unit in my backyard and put a new one higher up on the wall for easier accessibility. He said that the coupon should cover either one of those or maybe go a little over. I didn't have the work done right away though because of the clog of junk blocking access to the wall in my garage. By the time I called him, it was two weeks before the Big Deal expired. He was on the road and did not recall coming to my house (I didn't expect him to without paperwork in front of him). When he got back to me a day or so later, he still didn't seem to recall the visit or what he had told me. He was kind of curt actually about the cost of the work (I didn't even mention the new light fixture because I hadn't thought of it yet) and he said something to the effect that he would have two journeymen come to do the work and if the work went over one hour (two men for one hour or one man for two hours), then it would be $86 per hour per man. Then he said I could have them just stop on the dot and leave the work unfinished if I wanted to not be charged more than the $99. First of all, this told me that he now was saying he didn't think the work originally discussed would be able to be done in the allotted time, which was not what he said originally, and second, I felt he was kind of rude, which was not the way he behaved when he came to my house. He had been courteous and patient then. Anyway, I know I expanded the scope of the job and I, therefore, did expect it to cost more, but not $500 more. I thought that was a bit steep. But I'm pleased with the work, the courtesy of the men who came and that I now have a working light again in my garage, plus more.
Description of Work: Tried to stabilize a ceiling fan/light in the middle of the garage. Put in a dual switch for the ceiling fan/light at the entry door (it had been on a pull cord), installed a light on the entry door wall and hooked up a switch to it in two place on the same wall (entry door and garage door).

They tell you a certain amount per hour and that both guys are certified. One is qualify and one is a rookie and they charge you more. They started and then their boss called them off since it was taking longer than he expected. They came back the next day and took them an additional two to three hours to finish.

This turned out pretty well. I had them install ceiling fans. It did take extra time so there were extra charges. One of the fans was out of frequency with another fan and they never could get that right but they really tried. Everything else that we asked them to do, they did and the technicians were professional.

I wasn't thrilled with them, but they aren't a bad company. They were really nice and they did a good job. However, the job took longer than I thought and the price ended up being more than I expected. They kept canceling and re-scheduling our appointment. I understand that they had some extenuating circumstances. They originally quoted me much less than the end cost. In the end, it was somewhat understandable. They did good work and were nice and apologized for everything along the way.

Everything went great. The techs were extremely professional and installed the attic fan in no time. I was left with the impression that this is a well run company with quality people on the payroll. I would definitely recommend them and if I need other electric work done in the future would hire them to do the work.
Description of Work: I bought this through an Angie's List Big Deal. The owner Steve Cavenee called me the day after I made the purchase. He came to check out the attic to ensure that the fan that I had purchased could be installed. After looking at the roof and the access to the attic, he wasn't sure and said he would send someone from his crew to actually go up into the attic and make that determination. A tech called me, scheduled a time to come out and pronounced that they would be able to install the fan. Steve then called me to schedule the actual installation.

I called Steve to set appt. and explained I had an EXPIRED $99 coupon good for 2 hours of labor but understood I could only get the $99 value I had paid for the coupon applied to the job and not the labor...we set the appt. Two guys came out and did a great job installing the fan and said Steve would send the bill. The invoice was sent to me for a Panasonic 110 CFM Fan/Light @ $205.15 + Labor @ $158.00 = $363.15 with no indication of my $99 credit. I emailed Steve and reminded him of the $99 credit I had and asked him to confirm that new total was $264.15. Janelle in their office responded confirming the new total due of $264.15. Later that day Steve emailed me saying he had forgotten about the credit and now they needed to use a higher labor rate changing the Labor from $158.00 to $196.50. I replied in an email contending it was not fair to increase the labor rate after I reminded him about my credit. He asked me to call so he could explain. He basically explained that the labor rate is higher when the coupon is used and I countered that the coupon was NOT used because it was expired and I was just getting credit fot the $99 I had already paid per the offer rules. The discussion got heated and he finally said if that was all I was willing to pay FINE! Even though the guys that did the installation were excellent I doubt I will be a customer again.

I would never recommend this service provider. I have used Steve for different jobs and when everything goes smoothly it is not a problem dealing with Steve. However, when things don't go very smoothly then Steve is very difficult to communicate with and in fact rude, blaming the customer and displaying zero customer service skills. He has skilled servicemen and some servicemen that don't seem to know what they are doing. Beware of his costs as his rates are high in my opinion.

Steve's crew is great and I highly recommend them and the work they do. However, here are a couple of warnings about Steve. First, he charges $84 per hour PER PERSON on his crew. This was not made clear to me by him and/or his crew. When we initially spoke, Steve himself toured myself and said the job would cost $500 - $800. As you can imagine, I was shocked that the total job cost $2,000+. I did add additionally work (converting the 30watt power to 40watt and running it to the oven) and I was prepared to pay more than the initial quote but I thought the amount I spent in labor was absurd. Most troubling was that he sent multiple people out on certain days despite the fact that one man was all that was needed for the job. For example, when Shaun (his employee) mounted the wall hood, it was a one man job and he did most of the work by himself. Still, I was charged $84 per hour for the other employee that was here that really had nothing to do. When I pointed this out to Steve, he agreed that the other member of the crew wasn't as skilled as Shaun so he reduced his hourly price for that one guy to $40 per hour. I still didn't agree with it but I paid it anyway. Also, when I analyzed the invoices, I saw that he charged a $27 "trip" fee for each time that they came to my house. The issue that I had with that is that he said that they would be here on a Monday at noon and would be able to finish the job in one day. They arrived at 1:45pm and then had to come back on two additional occasions (because Steve had booked them elsewhere) in order to finish my job. I didn't think it was right that he charged me a trip visit when, if they would have just spent a full day at my house, the job would have been done in one day. I was essentially being charged extra so that they could pack in a bunch of different jobs in one day. I didn't pay this fee because I didn't agree with it. If you buy the deal on Angie's List, understand this: if Steve decides to send his three person crew to your house and they're there for one hour, you'll already owe him an additional $84 because of the per person per hour rate that he charges. If you decide to use Steve company, his employees are fantastic. They do a great job and are really good people. I would make sure that you ask him how many people he's sending to your house to do the work (so he doesn't send 3-people are you're being charged $252 per hour without knowing it) and I would fight him to commit to your job for a full day so that you don't get charged a kicker $27 "trip fee." When I explained to Steve how I disagreed with what he charged me, he responded that his "house wasn't the size of [mine]" as a way to somehow justify that I could afford it and he wasn't taking advantage of me. All that did was annoy me further.
Description of Work: Installed a wall mount vent, a microwave drawer and a wall mount oven (which included increasing the wattage from the panel). They also added two outlets and ran power through a kitchen island and helped hang two pendents.

I would recommend this vendor, great experience.

Steve came out and made his initial assessment of the work. Old rotten conduit to the pool equipment was replaced. The guys also correctly diagnosed and repaired the problem with the main panel. I just had solar panels put in by Smart Solar, which is a nightmare for another day. Two circuit breakers were wired wrong, and the wire to the pool light wasn't even connected. Steve and the boys fixed it correctly and now everything works perfectly. Steve and his crew are intelligent and professional in their work. I will use them again to repair more work that some other electrician botched.

Steve was quick to respond. He came out next day, spent over an hour tracing the lines to track down the issue. He had to schedule a team of two of his electrician work crew to come out on a separate day to do more tracing. They found the root cause, which was a malfunctioning power outlet due to old style outlet installed by original home builder which did not continue holding the wires in it snugly over time and repeated use. Was more than fair on the total service charge, especially considering the amount of time and testing it took to get to the root cause "problem outlet". He only charged me for travel not his time on the first service call, and fair rates on the second call with the two men, which resolved the issue. I would highly recommend Steve to anyone. I will use his services in the future.

The electrician informed me that they could not troubleshoot my problem. The deal included an inspection & cleaning of my breaker box, so they did that. I also had them fix an outlet in my garage that was giving me problems.
Description of Work: Service was for 2 hours of electrical service. However, contractor showed up with two electricians who told me since there were 2 of them, I would only get 1 hour of service. Basically we bought our house and were really concerned about all the weird looking wiring in the garage. Steve came over and confirmed our suspicions. So we set up a plan to get things in order based on safety concerns. He was professional and not pushy at all. His team came a few days later and took care of the biggest safety concerns. As time and money allow, we will continue to use Steve for all of our electrical needs. Furthermore, I would not hesitate to refer him to my family and friends.
