Berk's Electrical and Lighting

Absolute joke of a company. Charged me $89 to request an estimate. 7-10 days later still no estimate. I had to call them 3 times to get them to send it over. Then they were 3-4 times the amount of 3 other estimates I received. Basically terrible customer service, plus TOTAL RIPOFF. STAY AWAY.

I made an appointment in mid November. They showed up fairly close to on-time and the the person who looked over the job was very helpful. He made some suggestions (up sell a little) that I liked and he said the were really busy and that it would probably take a week to get me a quote. I have checked back a few times and still have no quote. I realize that that time of the year is really busy. My normal electrician who is over the top fantastic is booked until 2nd quarter. I decided to give Angies list a try since I have had good luck there. Here we are in January and still no quote. I am giving up now and because nobody every tried to reach out I will base my review on that. You can tell me you are too busy and that is honest or you can tell me you don't want the job. Don't promise and not deliver because I will write a review. I will say that usually Super Service Award winners make sure to at the very least follow up. In this case not so much. I think this is the first bad review I have had to make here.

I hired Berk's Electrical & Lighting company to replace a light over my kitchen sink. They also checked out a fluorescent light I was having problems with. A part was broken, so the electrician took it to see if he could replace the part. Unfortunately, he misplaced the part, so I would have to purchase a completely new fixture. Two days later, I get a call from Jeff. He said it was their fault and that they would install a new light fixture at no cost to me! I was stunned! I was impressed! I realized then that I was working with a company that had both integrity and class! Thanks, Berk's Electrical! I will call you first for future electrical work! Sue L.

Gerardo performed the task like a pro. He was very knowledgeable. I would hire Berk's Electrical again. I did ask if I was going to receive a discount for using Angie's network, he told me it would be 5%, but the web site said 10%, but I did not want to argue.

Electrician Michael quickly and accurately figured out where the problem was with the electrical wiring and fixed it. His work was great in every way.

Over $4000 was spent on this project. The shear wall was cut by mistake by the employee of the company, causing him to be fired after I complained. More concerning was the damaged and cut wires inside the wall (close to the stove and gas line) which was taped up WITHOUT my knowledge, covered by a patched up wall. Luckily this was discovered by another contractor hired to work on the kitchen remodeling during the same period of time. The wire was finally replaced by my insistence, prior to repair of the "shear wall in the kitchen". The company refunded me the repair of the damaged shear wall but no credit was issued for over and over delayed work, poor quality workman ship and likely unqualified employees. I requested a credit to be made for all the above issues but it was declined again. I was even charged full prize for an outdoor fixture replacement which was not done as the power came from the neighbor, but regardless "charged for the time" !! . I replaced wall switch plate myself as not done despite a new recess light installation! Finally I was told a dimmer timer could not be placed in the bathroom!? which I did it myself later! The office and owner are very polite and nice but I don't think they have the right manpower for a quality work. (at least did not have when hired by me!). I hired them trusting the reviews on Angie's list. My mistake.

Price seemed a little high, but otherwise no issues.

Not good. came over to look over the projects. took pics & said would call me in a week with pricing.. No call back after a week, so i called & said he is still working on it & would get me something with in a week. Another week went by & still no word from them, I called back & they said he'll have something over to me tonight. Never Happened. So I will not be working with them or referring anyone to them.

We have used Berk's Electrical several times for repairs at our home in Irvine. They have always sent out extremely qualified, competent and cordial electricians. This time, one of our circuit breakers broke down and half of our kitchen power went out, including the microwave and refrigerator. I called Berk's at 8:00 a.m. this morning and Kevin Brown was at our house by 11:00 a.m. to fix the problem. He knew exactly what to do. We also discussed with him what to do about having too many appliances on one circuit as our home is about 40 years old and newer homes have dedicated lines for large appliances like the refrigerator. Kevin offered several suggestions and his recommendation. He's going to go back to the office to get quotes for additional work, should we decide to make the improvements. I highly recommend using Berk's and definitely ask for Kevin. He's great! And I got a 10% discount because of Angie's List membership.

They were outstanding and I will hire them again if I need electrical work.

My wife and I were extremely happy with the work performed. The technician was prompt, arriving at the agreed to time and he was very professional. He perfectly balanced each of the fans and rotate without any wobble.

The technician spent a fair amount of time but was unable to finish both jobs. There was a misunderstanding on both sides of what the job entailed when the technician was dispatched. I was not happy with this repair but I have used Berks Electrical in the past on numerous occasions and they have always been professional and provided a satisfactory solution and repair. I will use them again.

After the work was done, the problem was corrected.

They have been out to the house 3, maybe 4 times. We were happy with the work, definitely. I really didn’t have any basis for comparison on price, it seemed just reasonably. I thought they were completely professional. I have recommended them to my parents.

He checked all the wiring, including from the attic, and tightened the socket. Also checked the light switch to make sure the connection was safe. He was even kind enough to educate me on LED light bulbs! Thank you!

I feel like I have had to start these reviews way too often with, "It was a rocky start...", but it was. I called on 9/21/16, after the technician left unable to install my dishwasher, scheduled an electrician for the next morning, with the window being between 8a - 10a. I waited that morning and no one showed. I called the office at 10:10a, giving them a little time to call me to say they were running late or something, and told Judy no one had come and my window was between 8-10 and she said, "Oh, the technician is on the jobsite right now!", which I found funny because he absolutely was not on the jobsite in my home. She put me on hold and then came back to say he had gone to the wrong home, first. I was assured the job he was on was a quick one and he would come to my home directly after. He arrived right around 12p, just as I was about to call Judy back and cancel the job. It is absurd to me that so many companies think nothing of their customers time. People do take time off from work to get these things handled. I'm pretty sure the technician would not have waited longer than 5 minutes, if that, to wait for me to get home for him to start the job. It is bad customer service. The electrician came in and did the work. It cost $331.35, which seemed expensive to install one outlet. We went ahead and had them complete the work because, not moving forward, we still would have had to pay their $89 service call charge and then start from scratch with scheduling and some other companies service call fees. Still, the combination of cost and service would prevent me from using them again or recommending them to family or friends. I am fatigued by how many times I have had to call in on no-shows and babysit the follow through and integrity of these companies. It should not be on your customer to manage your time and scheduling. It shows a lack of respect for your customer's time. As far as quality, I had asked for an outlet to be installed under the kitchen sink, as requested by the dishwasher installer. The electrician put the outlet in the wall directly behind the dishwasher, so I have no idea if that matters or not, but since Best Buy could now only schedule me for re-install on 10/5, at the earliest, I will have to wait until that time to find out if the outlet is as it needs to be for the install. When I had questioned the electrician about it after he had installed it, he seemed to think it would not matter. I hope that is true because I will NOT be happy if this creates a further delay on the install, since we purchased this appliance on 9/5 and will have waited and entire month for installation without an operational dishwasher, in the meantime. I gave the overall job a "C" because I am going to assume the quality of the work is good, and electrician was friendly and professional (once he got here).

Fixed her up for the short term which is what she needed. I did not see the bill so I don’t know pricing

Eric Cronin arrived precisely on time, reviewed there areas to be addressed, and prepared an official estimate for the work to be done. Upon approval and sign-off, he went immediately to work on the kitchen lighting, and then the bathroom. Defective ballasts were identified and replaced, along with several 40 watt T12 lamps. Eric was thorough and very neat in his work. We were very satisfied with him and his work.

It was excellent. This is the second time they worked with us. They're always very prompt getting back to us. They follow up the next day just to make sure that everything was done to our satisfaction. I just think they do a very good job at a reasonable price. They called and said they would be late. I will definitely use them again.

It went great. They were on time and communicated very well and they guys that came out were dependable.

Berk's does excellent work, but they are expensive.

We really liked them. They went in and did their job.

It went very well. I realize these were not major electrical problems and the basic discounted house call was $149. It was well worth it for safety reasons.
