+ 0 moreThe kitchen florescent lights were flickering on one panel of lights (there are 2). I talked to Judy on Monday morning and she asked if she could send someone out on Tuesday. I asked if it was at all possible to send someone today as I was off work today and worked tomorrow. She checked and said someone could come out right now, which was great. I had called other people on Angie's list last week who either didn't show up or never called back! Roman showed up and assessed the problem as needing a new ballast. One ballast would be $200 and to replace the second would be $250, so he replaced both. Turned out to be a good idea to replace the second ballast as it was found to be leaking fluid. The new type ballasts are electronic now and come on instantly, so no warm up needed. Very happy with the service and would use them again in the future. He said it would cost $920 to install recessed lighting, so may do that at a later time.

+ -1 moreI called Berk's on a Thursday and got an appointment for the following Monday which was convenient for us since it is my husband's day off. Roman, their electrician, put an outlet on the wall behind a painting so that we could install a picture light over the painting and the wires would not show. He looked at the wall and the fixture that we had purchased and knew just what to do. He pulled electricity from an nearby outlet and install an electrical wall box into the wall behind the painting. We could then screw the light fixture to the frame and plug it in just behind the painting. You cannot even tell there is an electrical box there. We were very pleased with how quickly Roman worked and how neat he was. We used a 10% off coupon from Angie's List and that saved us $20.00. I will definitely use Berk's Electrical and Lighting again when we need any electrical work done.

+ -1 moreRoman came out the same day that I called for service, showed up on time, used paper boots to protect my new carpet and went to work. I would have liked to see a breakdown on materials and labor but he quoted a flat charge so I'm not sure how much was labor and how much was for parts.
Description of Work: Several GFI outlets in my bathrooms were not working. There wre no switches tripped in the electrical panel so I called Berk's. Roman found the problem causing the GFI outlets to fail. He replaced the bad outlet and then tested to be sure that all others on that connection were working.

+ -1 moreThe breaker was mainly used for my son's room who has a lot of medical equipment. Due to the urgency they moved their schedule around to make my call a priority which I greatly appreciated. The technician was professional, friendly and informative. He explained the issue which we were aware of but he also suggested a new 20a breaker to cover just my son's room. I would definitely use them again. The price was about what I'd expected and service was great. Any where you go - labor runs about $100 and hour - most people don't think about that. For their service it is well worth the price!
Description of Work: Replace breaker and provided estimate for higher voltage breaker.

+ -1 moreI usually do my own work but this intermittent problem had me stumped. I had an intemittent GFI trip and power failure associated with pool power, sprinkler timer, garden light timer circuits. Wiring was "odd" because it had been "patched" in by several different trades that have done work on pool, garden lights, and sprinkler controls. Howard worked his way thru the wiring mess and determined what was wrong and what was o'k, and made appropriate repairs. Howard did not seem to mind me looking over his shoulder, he communicated well and he quickly identified and corrected the electrical problems. I was impressed. A month later I replaced pool lights and had Berk's terminate and test the circuits. Again, Howard was quick and efficient. I feel that Berk's is expensive but work has been excellent . . . and they do offer a discount coupon.
Description of Work: Troubleshooting pool power and sprinkler control circuits. Then replacement of a breaker and GFI.

+ -1 moreI was told that there will be $85.00 fee to come out and check why the 3 electrical switches work sometimes and don't work sometimes. The guy came on time. this was for my tenant. after 40 mins into checking, he calls me tell me that the outlets were working when he came so he needs approval to do a complete diaognastic, as he does not know where the problem is. it will be 145/hr and 90/hr after that. so i figure I am paying $85 anyway why not $149 to see if we can find the fault. then he said he only has 20 mins left for the hour as he has been there for 40 mins already. IF THE OUTLETS WERE WORKING BEFORE HE CAME THERE SO WHY DID HE WAIT FOR 40 MINS TO CALL. I THINK THIS IS JUST A WAY TO MAKE MONEY. I WAS VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I USED ANGIE'S LIST. I ONLY USE MY FRIEND'S REFERALS. BAD IDEA. VERY nERVOUS TO EVEN TRY A NEW ONE.

Needless to say I was impressed with their promptness and professionalism. Roman gave me the estimate and did the work. The new fixture was tricky and he knew exactly how to do the installation. The light looks great and I'm very happy with my experience with this company, will use them again and tell my friends to use them as well.

He researched the problem with the one out let that kept tripping the circuit breaker and then replaced the outlets mentioned above and tested them all. He cleaned up the few spots where he had to drill into a wall. I payed him and told him we'd see him again- which we will.
Description of Work: Replaced 4 outlets so they were grounded; ran a ground wire to one that was installed but did not have a ground wire.Replaced blown circuit breaker. Replaced a GFI that had power but stopped working.

Explained in detail what he was going to do. He replaced the breaker because it was bad. Never once tried to up sell me and was clear on the pricing before any work started. In all it took just a little over an hour. I would highly recommend this company to my friends and colleagues.

+ -1 moreOriginally, I thought the wire could be easily accessed through a hole in the wall made by the previous owner; however, this wasn't the case. New wire had to be run from an upstairs bedroom to the main floor before the outlet could be installed. Roman was very professional and explained fully what needed to be done. He replaced and repaired the drywall he had to remove to gain access to the wiring and cleaned up any mess he had made. I will definitely use Berk's should I need electrical work done again.

+ 1 moreAll the work was completed in two days. The technician stayed late the second day to make sure everything was completed. He cleaned up everything both days. We had a couple issues after the work was completed and they came back out as quickly as possible and fixed the problems.
Description of Work: we had several lights added in our entry way, wiring re-done in our garage, GFI's added in the kitchen, plus another outlet and switch added in the kitchen, and finally a ceiling fan added in a spare bed room. Holes had to be cut into the drywall to run the new wires but they took care to keep it to a minimum. The initial quoted price was fine, but we added a few items and the added cost for this seemed high.

Description of Work: We had to have the master/main power shut-off switch to our home replaced. Our home is an older home, so locating a replacement switch was not an easy task. The first replacement switch did not fit properly so the electrician, Roman, would not install it and advised us that his company would immediately work on finding another switch and keep us informed. Berk's did exactly that and telephoned us to update us on the status and expected completion date. Roman was very efficient and professional and went through our electrical panel and home very thoroughly. He tested everything to be SURE there were no additional problems. Roman returned with the new switch and not only installed that, but also completely replaced our ceiling fan for us despite our not having scheduled this unanticipated part of the job. He was happy to comply. Berk's Electrical will now be our new electricians as the company was extremely prompt and professional. They did what they promised and responded timely. The electrician that came to our home, Roman, was excellent, and went far beyond the basics to seek a solution to our electrical issues.

Description of Work: Pigtail and replace 40 receptacles and switches where original aluminum wiring was connected. Install approved safety connectors that join aluminum to copper wire. Install 2 ground-fault interrupter safety receptacles. Tighten all connections in electrical panel. Aluminum wire connections in our house, wired in 1969, had become unreliable, causing occasional flickering of lights, power outages, and and burnt out fixtures, causing fire hazard.
