My daughter said there was a gas smell coming from the kitchen. We call the gas company, and they said to call a plumber. The gas company then shut off the gas completely. We called A-1 in a panic to get things fixed. They used my bottle of soap and water to check for leaks (which he ended up taking with him). I would've thought they would've used more modern technology. They came over and charged $225 to come out and said he had to go to Home Depot twice to pick up parts, even though he had a trailer full of parts. He said he fixed two parts and fixed three leaks. The final bill ended up being $550. I offered to pay with my American Express, and they didn't accept it because they said their credit card machines are down. They said it would be cash or check. So I wrote a check for $550. I called this morning and asked if they took credit cards and they told me they did take credit cards, but they didn't like to and preferred cash or checkk. When I challenged them that it was on their site, they finally agreed and let me pay with my card. When I said it was AmEx they said they couldn't accept it but finally allowed me to. Also, their website lists a 10% off coupon, which I called this morning to ask if I could use. He said I needed to present it at the time of the repair. I explained I was in a panic and they still wouldn't take it. When I asked to speak to the owner, the gentleman said "oh my god, we'll take it. You have to fax it to me" My grandson found several other companies who only charged $60-80 to come out for a service call, so I feel as though we paid way too much for this service. If I would've known how much their service call would have been, I would have chosen someone else but I was in a panic. Ultimately, I was upset at the lack of customer service shown by this company, and felt I was treated very rudely over the phone.
