In May of 2008 I called Brinks to end my association with them. My wife was out of work and I could no longer afford the monthly premium plus, they were now stating that since the city of Fontana police was no longer going to respond when alarms went off they were signing on with a guard company called Maxwell. They went on to state that Maxwell would respond to any alarms going off and charge me $26 all I had to do was to sign a Brinks Addendum to my Brinks Contract if I continued with Brinks to have Maxwell respond to my alarm going off. The Brinks representative (Terri) offered to work with me and lower my monthly rate, update my alarm system, so I told her that I would renew my Brinks Contract, she stated that in order to have guard response I would need to sign The Brinks Home Security Guard Response Addendum. The very FIRST sentence of the The Brinks Home Security Guard Response Addendum states This is an Addendum to the Protective Service Agreement (or Monitoring Service Agreement) between Brinks Home Security, Inc. ( Brink s ) and Customer. My wife and I signed it and mailed it. I received a letter from Brinks dated October 1, 2008 stating that they were arbitrarily changing the charges for Maxwell Security Services to $28 per response and now charging a $15 monthly premium. This is not what my wife and I signed. I consider Brinks in breach of contract by arbitrarily making these changes to our Brinks Contract. I called Brinks at 1-800-445-0872 on 10/08/08 and spoke with Edwin and I explained my feeling about this letter and that my wife and I felt that Brinks was now violating our agreement. He stated that he would check into it and call me back. He called me back a few days later and stated that there was nothing he could do. I called Brinks back on 10/14/08 and requested a Manager, I was connected to Kenny who advised me he would look into this and call me back. He called me back a couple of days later and advised me that it had been taken care of and that my contract would remain as I had originally signed, $26 per response to alarm by Maxwell and NO monthly fee, I thanked him. Kenny called me back on 10/17/08 to advise me that his superiors at Brinks had over ridden his decision and that if I continue with Brinks Maxwell would charge me $28 per response and a $15 per month premium, there was nothing further he could do however, he would transfer me to Brinks Customer Loyalty Department and he was sure they would work with me by perhaps reducing my monitoring fee. I was transferred to a Keisha (or Lakeisha?) who proceeded to lecture me on contracts and stating that I never signed a Brinks contract for Maxwell services. I advised her that I had, she apparently did not know what addendum meant. After 15 minutes of going back and forth I asked for her Manager, she put me on hold for 20 minutes, no one came on line and I hung up. Stay away from BRINKS!!
