Do I feel ripped off? Heck yeah! I called Brooks to get my fireplace fixed because it was filling the room with smoke. He charged me $2660 for 2 hours of work that and essentially told me to go jump in a lake when I told him later that the 'repair' didn't do the job. He says he'll come back and fix the problem for another $3000 - $4000. He claims the work he did was never intended solve the smoking problem I would never have spent $2660 for work that would leave my chimney in the same unusable condition. He must know nobody spends so much money to end up with something they can't use! Anyway, if he didn't think I was trying to cure a smoke problem, why did he make a point of building a tiny fire at the end of his service call to show that the smoke problem was 'solved', get my check and leave? By the way, he is now trying to get me to change this review! In sum, business practices that leave the customer feeling tricked, terrible customer relations, shoddy (in my opinion) work, it doesn't get any worse that this. Call anyone else, not this guy! I wish I had paid attention to his well-deserved negative reviews

This was very odd. After a few minutes I got called away by another call. When I came back he was already in his truck and leaving, having collected a check for $209. His 'report' consisted of a page that had measurements for a new fireplace insert. The only inspection he did was to look up the chimney and say it wasn't very heavily used. He went outside to see if he could get ladder access and all I heard him say was that our roof was too steep to approach the chimney. The roof is 6/12 and if he put a ladder up to the second story in the back the roof is accessible from a 2/12 area. He told my wife since we were doing a renovation there was no sense in cleaning the chimney now. For this he charged $209. When I came back and she explained this to me, I went out to his truck where he was putting in the information for his next call. I told him that I thought I was paying for a cleaning and inspection and this was neither. I asked him to give me something in writing that said when we were done with the remodel he would return and actually do the job we paid him for. Instead he simply returned the check and we ended the transaction there. The positive was, when confronted he actually returned the fee for the service. The negative was that he would collect a fee for the 'service' he provided. 95% of his time was spent trying to sell us on a gas insert. He made NO EFFORT to clean anything. This is not my idea of a responsible contractor. I would not use this contractor again.

Very professional and knowledgable owner came and provided complete inspection of a 20 yr old gas fireplace and chimney for pre purchase of a town home. We also had them clean out dryer vent.

We have used this service several times over the years. It is small and locally owned, which may be why we get such great service. The owner has been asked a couple of times to join other sweeps in working the White House chimneys, and I can see why. He knows chimneys. He and his crew were on time, friendly, efficient, and informative. The best was that they protected furniture and left everything spotless--even including the fireplace and hearth. I wouldn't use anyone else.
