Our furnace stopped working and after checking reviews on Angie's List we called Thompson Heating & Air Conditioning. We told Garett what our problem was and he came out to look at our furnace. It needed a new part. Garett got back to us after locating the part and told us how much it was going to cost. Since the furnace was already old we decided it would make more sense to purchase a brand new one. Garett was very informative and answered all our questions. He always got back to us in a timely manner. We were very happy with the installation and removal of our old furnace. The furnace works great. We are also happy to have an updated thermostat, which Garett patiently explained how to use.

Garrett and crew had it all done quickly, neatly and professionally in unbelievable small amount of time! As a retired electrician, I know what a neat and professional installation looks like, and Thompson (Garrett & crew) did it well. The garage was actually cleaner than when he started. I would recommend them to anybody!

Contacted Thompson's for estimate. Garrett arrived promptly, we discussed options and once decided, we made the install appt. Garrett arrived and did the install in one day. He was very personable and professsional. After about 8 months, I called to schedule a follow-up. I will continue to use this company for all A/C needs.

We called Garett after having a few problems with the AC/Heater unit that was installed iln 1996. We found him on Angies list. He came out quickly and spent time explaining the pros and cons of a new unit. No pressure at all. He would ask if there were any questions and listened. We decided to have him do a estimate while he was here . He sent the contract the next day. We were anxious to get it installed before the hot summer months. He and his co worker spent the day removing our old unit from a very tight upstairs closet. The had to carry extreemly heavy pieces up and down the stairs and install heavy pieces too. They were very careful and even swept up before leaving. Garett went over the new thermostat several times with me to be sure I understood. Even though they were very tired he patientently asked if I had any questions. He called and set up the required inspection. Garett is very personable and skillful. I would definitly recommend him to anyone. The 6,700.00 cost includes the cost of the inspectors visit too ...not just the unit. We bought a middle of the line unit.

We needed to replace our furnace and ducts, and took several bids on furnace/AC units, and also heat pumps. Thompson was very attentive in listening to what we wanted, and patient while we decided. We went with them because they seemed competent installers, and their price was in line. They kept their workspace neat, and cut us a break on the price when the exact unit we wanted wasn't in stock. There were two disappointing things about our interaction with them. Their bid did not include permits, and when I asked how much that would add, I was quoted $280. In fact, the permit cost was $560, double the quote. I encourage anyone doing business with Thompson to have the permits included in the bid price. The second thing was that they indicated to us that the work we were doing on the house, including switching from gas heat to electric heat, would put us in good shape to participate in the Energy Upgrade California program, and that they had worked on such projects before. Only after we had started the EUC process, and had paid $410 for an inspection, did we learn that they themselves were not on the list of approved contractors for the program, and that the work they had done in the past was under a different set up. While in most ways Thompson was good to work with, and we are pleased with the performance of the unit, in these two instances they cost us money, either beyond what we had evalated as their bid, or for services we had others perform that turned out to be of limited value to us.

We don't have enough positive things to say about Garrett at Thompson Heating and Air Conditioning. He has helped us every step of the way of homeownership, from doing an inspection during escrow to replacing our furnace. The replacement of the furnace was done quickly, easily and professionally at a competitive price. Garrett explained everything to us, and even helped wire up our awesome Nest thermostat which I was unreasonably excited for. In the murky world of HVAC work, it's good to have someone you can trust, and we are so happy we found Thompson and Garrett.

Thompson Heating & Air Conditioning did an excellent job. They were very courteous, they did everything that they said they would, they cleaned up after themselves , they finished the work in the time frame that they said. They were friendly, comfortable, had a very careful attitude and did not damage any walls and they were very quiet. I was very pleased.Their price was average, it was not less then other companies that I had bids from.

I wanted to get get three bids before I decided on the work but after the second bid came in from Garrett of Thompson Heating and Air, I just went with them. First, Garrett came out promptly and was super friendly and knowledgeable. He also sent the quote that same night by email. Above all their quote was $2200 less that the first bid. I also had some questions regarding remote control of the thermostat and he promptly replied by email to my questions and suggested I look into a Nest Thermometer. The day of the work, Garret and Mike came out promptly at the scheduled 8am time and had the unit installed and tested by 4pm. My 25 year old furnace is located in a tight nook in my garage. They helped me remove an old cabinet that was in the way of the furnace. Throughout the install, Garret was very attentive to my concerns and questions and at the end of their work, they cleaned up the area nicely. Throughout the whole process I just felt so comfortable with them and for this reason, I chose to do business with Thompson. I'll be sure to use them again, the next time. I finally have relief for those terribly hot summers. If you're looking for HVAC work done, give them a call.

Please.....call this company! I will try to keep this short. I have a 40 year old townhouse condo in North Park, that had a 40 year old electric coil heater and a 22 year old a/c unit on the roof. Most of you will not be faced with this type of installation...they quit making these units 25 years ago. The electric coil heater was in what we laughingly call "the attic" which is only about 2 feet high. The a/c unit is on the roof. I am the president of our little 4 plex for the last 25 years, so I do know how to do my homework and check out company's licenses, insurance, Angies List, etc. Normally, I just get 3 estimates. I knew my job would be tricky, so I called 5 companies. I could have stopped with one. I called Thompson's on Friday.....Garrett said he could come out the next day. He arrived promptly, checked everything out, and said he would send me the estimate via email. I got it two days later on Monday. It took the next two weeks to get the other four companies out here and get their bids. One was very honest and said they couldn't do it. One company said a "packaged unit" on the roof is just what I needed. Sounded great, until I asked the other companies about it, and they said it is so heavy, I would need to pay for a structural engineer to come out and assess our roof. Uh, no....not doing that. I checked out Consumer Reports for ratings on systems. They had some limited info, but two systems held true....Trane and Rheem. You will hear a lot about Goodman-Amana (two companies sold those). It may be a good system, but it did not have the excellent history that Trane and Rheem have. The estimates went from $4950 to $6600. Normally, I go with a bid in the middle. Not this time....Thompson's bid was the cheapest, and it was a Trane system. Oh - also I want to mention that every time I sent a question via email to Garrett, I literally got a reply within 10 to 15 minutes. Some of the others never responded, or it took them a few days to get back to me. Garett, Mike, and the original owner Tommy Thompson came out promptly at 9:00 on Monday the 11th and started in. Tommy was a great asset for my needs because he has replaced these over the years. Garett said they only do ones like mine about once a year, so it was nice having Tommy here. The next day the crane came promptyly at 9:00, hoisted the new unit up, took the old unit down, and was gone by 9:20. My nabors didn't even have time to get out there with their cameras. That day, they worked until 7:00 at night. Came back the next morning, and finished up by 3:00. Also, I paid in cash and Garett gave me a 2% discount which lowered the price from $5150 to $4950. Some of the larger companies did not do that. Cash or credit card it was the same price. And, to finish it off, they put the thermostat upstairs in my hallway whiich is much easier for me to use. I HIGHLY recommend this company and strongly urge you to call them. We've all seen the ads on tv for HVAC companies, and I found their bids to be the highest. Makes sense....they have to pay for the ads. I got a real education in this process, and it convinced me that Thompson's is the only way to go. Oh, and call them before summer hits...he said prices are lower now.

The owner, Garett Baird, 36 years old, came and provided an estimate. I wasn't certain about whether I wanted to replace the ducting but took Garett's advice and did so. I was very glad I did. I had other bids including one for the same equipment but without ducting replacement that was over $2,000 higher. Garett explained Thompson's does not maintain expensive offices nor office staff therefore much less overhead so they can offer better pricing than their competition.. Once I made my selection from the estimates I received, the choice of Thompson's was easy and the installation date was quickly established. Garett himself was the lead installer, with a helper named Mike. It took three days to complete the job and I cannot imagine how it could have been better. Throughout the entire process, Garett answered all my questions and started each day of the installation by asking me if I had more questions. I was so impressed with Garett that by the end I wanted to adopt him. The installation was perfect. Garett and Mike were superb. Each day began with tarps spread on flooring and ended with clean up of all affected areas. The real proof of the quality of their work came 3 days after completion when the HERS inspector came with all his measuring equipment and found the performance of the system (air leakage) was better than that required for a new house with new installation. In summary, I would highly recommend Thompson's for all HVAC work.

From my initial phone call, the reply was prompt, as was the appointment with Garett Baird . He was knowledgeable, attentive and courteous, and provided me with more pertinent information than either of the other competitors ever thought to share. The promptness of the service call and installation went equally as well. They accomodated my short notice for an install date, without any problem. I would HIGHLY recommend his services to any of my friends. He is truly what a professional contractor should be! Thank you Garett!

I chose Thompson Heating and Air Conditioning on the basis of reviews on Angie's List. This was a good experience from start to finish. Garett came out to assess the situation - find out my needs and answer questions. He explained some of the options and told me what he felt would be my best choice. I knew very little about furnaces, so I took his advice. I wasn't disappointed with the result. The new furnace is smaller, quieter and more efficient. And with the air cleaner and new ducting, the air in the condo is cleaner. Garett did all of the work himself, over a period of two days. While the work was being done in the attic, including when the huge old furnace was removed from the house, there was no intrusive noise nor mess in the rest of the house. We are happy with our new furnace, air cleaner, ducting and thermostat and are glad we had the work done by Thompson Heating and Air Conditioning. It is a capable, responsive, and ethical company.
Description of Work: • Replace the original 34-year-old furnace in the attic of a 3-story condo with a new furnace with a Variable Speed Fan. • Replace all accessible ducting in attic. • Remove existing furnace from premises. • Install new Honeywell thermostat. • Install new electronic air cleaner.

Garret was great to work with. He negotiated with me the installation of the ducting first and equipment later - to accommodate a potential benefit in the future. Price was lowest bidder AND the quality of the equipment selected had more options than the next bid. Variable speed blower and 2 stage compressor - very excited about that! Looking forward to the completed job and my new house. Definitely a thumbs up!

Called on the weekend, and they responded promptly, while other companies didn't even return my call. They came that day, replaced the thermostat immediately, and charged a reasonable price. Description of Work: Requested an estimate to replace 25 year old furnace and a/c in 1700 sq ft home. Estimator made a quick inspection and then tried to explain equipment, options, efficiency, installation, etc. Having read a bit beforehand it was obvious that some of the information being given was not correct and/or confused. Top of the line premium price was quoted. Eventual work by another contractor was about 30% less cost.

Can you please make sure you are reviewing the correct company. Our license number is 974400. We cannot find your name or address in our system. If this is a mistake we apologize for any confusion. In 80 plus reviews we have never received a poor grade. Buying a new HVAC system can be very confusing with the new California laws and new technology. If we quoted a top of the line, High Efficient Trane HVAC system we should be closer to 40%-50% higher than an entry Carrier unit. Had 30 year old furnace that failed a safety inspection. Called Thompson Heating & Air Conditioning. Garett came to my home and discussed options for new furnace +/- new ducting. Garett listened to my thoughts and my priorities. I felt Garett helped me through this decision making process with information and options rather than a sales like process. I really appreciated that and I felt very comfortable going ahead with Thompson heating. On installation day , Garett and Mike came to remove old furnace and ducting and install the new furnace and ducting. Everything went smoothly. After the job was done, everything was cleaned up perfectly. The furnace works great. I am extremely happy and very appreciative for the great work that Garett and Mike did for me.

I realized the previous plumbing job (snaking a basement drain out to the street) should have cleared the main drainage pipe... We brainstormed where the problem might be. Jason thought it was likely the toilet itself (vintage 1974), & made some recommendations for a newer toilet (e.g. the Kohler Cimarron) with more modern technology. He said, as a club member, they could install that for ~$850. (I thought that was pretty steep. What would NON-members be charged?) I wasn't ready to schedule that at this time. I decided the 100-foot clean-out wasn't necessary, & Justin agreed I really didn't even need the 6-foot augur; I'd already accomplished that. I asked how much I owed him for this visit, & was very pleasantly surprised when he said "Nothing." (He wouldn't even accept a tip.) He was very professional, friendly, courteous, answered all my questions--& left me feeling much better about Thompson (after some aggravating billing & service issues over the past year.) I must add that I appreciate the intervention of Teresa Lotz, customer service manager, in resolving those billing issues. She was willing to get on a 3-way call to the bank with me--we finally identified the source of the problem & rectified it! Teresa was very apologetic about the hassles we've had & seemed very eager to keep me as a satisfied customer. Her efforts went a long way to that end.
Description of Work: A toilet clogged up (3rd time!!) late Sat. night; I called Thompson first thing Mon. & scheduled a plumber to clean out the lines on Weds. I spent 2 days plunging with hot water & enzymes--& it appeared to be opened up! However, I still wanted the drain pipes reamed out. I was scheduled in the 10am-12 noon slot. Staff called me at least twice to say they were running late (I had to leave by 3pm.) Justin B. arrived with Jake after 12:30. They both donned booties before entering my home. I had informed staff when I scheduled that I'd like another toilet with a frozen shut-off valve to be checked, too, & they did this. Then they looked at the problem toilet & informed me that I had, indeed, successfully opened it up. I said I'd still feel better if they'd augur it 100 feet as the scheduler had told me they'd do for $97 (actually, they offered me a $10 discount because of previous hassles & problems, which I appreciated). Justin told me their augur was only ~6 feet, to clear the toilet TO the drain pipe; they would have to remove the toilet in order to snake it 100 feet--!
