I am sorry that you feel scammed. I looked into the service we did for you back in July. We had found that your filter was impacted and the base of the furnace was not sealed. That was on top of your system having a refrigerant leak. That dirty filter was what was causing the noise in the furnace. You mentioned that the noise is back. This may be due to the filter being dirty again. It has been 3 months since it was replaced and we just went thru one of the hottest summers we have had in a long time. I am not sure why you have not called us back out to take a look at the system when you noticed the sound was back after 3 months. We give a 1 year warranty on work like this. We will reach out to you today to see if we can come back out and see what the problem is with the noise again. To clear up what you said about the charges; He did not charge you for the filter, or sealing around the furnace base, plus he gave you our Angie's List Discount.The standard price for the work we did was nearly $600. The technician on site did discount the job down to $454. As I stated above, we will reach out to you today. We can not correct something if we do not know about it. I am sorry we did not know you were still having problems.

Description of Work: I had a problem with my A/C. Their technician came out and inspected the unit and ran a number of tests. While he wasn't sure what was causing my problem, he recommended replacing all the ductwork and a blower motor at a total cost of $2,317.00. I thought it was ridiculous to replace all the ductwork since the house is only 11 years old, and the ductwork worked fine until this year. I called in another company. While the problem was difficult to diagnose, he found that it was a bad control board and that the motor was going bad, and should be replaced. Total cost to replace both items was $470. Excelair wanted to charge me $645 just to replace the motor. This company only charged $250. Bottom line is I felt I would have been totally ripped off if I had gone with Excelair.

I am so sorry you feel as if we were taking advantage of you. Although I cannot compare pricing between different companies, I can provide explanation of our diagnosis. As you mentioned, finding the problem was difficult. I realize that another company came out and replaced a circuit board and blower. Although, it is very rare that both of these items would fail at the same time. Usually it is one or the other. We too found that the blower needed to be replaced. We actually quoted you on upgrading to an ECM motor, which is why it was so much more than the other motor, which was a standard PSC motor. This ECM motor would have cut your operational cost down considerably. Which is the main reason we offer the upgrade instead of the high energy cost of PSC motors. It may cost more up front, but you are saving money every time you use it. Next we looked for "reasons" why this motor would fail. The leading cause is either “age” or “poor air flow”. Given that your system is newer we looked at the “air flow”. We did not arbitrarily state that you needed new ducting. On the invoice we left with you, we showed you the calculations that clearly shows that your ducting is undersized by nearly 25%. Your supply ducting is only capable of delivering 1160cfm. Your system produces 1400cfm. This increases the load on the fan motor (high static pressure). This also reduces the amount of air across your indoor coil. That reduces the capacity of the system. So your 3.5 ton system can only provide about 3 tons of air...again...costing more to operate. I realize your house is newer, but that does not mean the ducting was sized properly for your A/C. Granted, it should. But again, we showed the calculations that shows that it is not sized properly. Sure...it will "work", but it will cost more and parts like fans can fail prematurely. My point is that we were not trying to rip you off. If you don't correct the "cause" of the problem, then the problem will eventually come back. We only pointed out the existing problems with your system and offered the best "long term" solution.

Description of Work: Polite and knowledgable technician performed an inspection of our AC system and everything went well. He was late by at least an hour since they gave us a service window of 10 to 12 pm and he arrived after 1pm. However, Excel Air called ahead to warn us of the delay since technician was busy with a longer than expected service call prior to ours, so I appreciated the phone calls.
