MELLANO & CO

I ordered some flowers and ornamental plants from the flower market, and was disappointed that they had a such a strong chemical smell to them. Shortly after this, my parents and I, who live next door to Mellano & Co farm in Oceanside, CA made several requests to Mellano & Co asking if they can send us a spray notification before they spray pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, or fertilizers around our home (which they do several times per week). Unfortunately, Mellano & Co has chosen not to comply with this simple neighborly request. After doing some online research I found that Michael Mellano and VP Michelle Castellano with Mellano & Co have had meetings with local congressman requesting that Mellano & Co be given permission to use more of the pesticide Methyl Bromide, which is being phased out by the EPA due to the fact that it is dangerous to humans, animals, the environment, and depletes the ozone layer. Their exact quote is "We would be happy to use alternatives if they were out there, but they are not." Yet, I did a Google search for Methyl Bromide Alternatives, and the first result that comes up is the EPA website showing a list of numerous alternatives. In conclusion, Mellano & Co is inconsiderate of their neighbors, their customers, and the environment, and shows no interest in changing their dirty farming practices. If you are in the market for flowers or ornamental plants I would recommend doing a Google search for Organic flowers so that you are exposing your loved ones to these dangerous compounds.
