Overall our experience was good. We really like two things about this gate. The first is how it functions. It is a pair of doors, each with a door within it on piano hinges. During the day we can open the small doors to see who is at the entrance, our dogs can see out, yet the decorative ironwork keeps people out and dogs in. The hardware is a double-cylinder deadbolt so someone can't reach through the grill to open the gate. During the evening we can close the small doors to give us complete privacy and muffle the noise from the street. The other thing we like about the gate is what it is made of and how it is made. Jeff uses recycled wood that he sandblasts to reveal the wood's character. He then stains it and installs interesting yet functional hardware on it. His iron worker, Eugene Rivera, made the "flowers" to mimic a design in the grillwork on our front door. The gate looks great with our Mediterranean-architecture home. Jeff's price is very reasonable, too. What we had a hard time with was the uncertainty of completion. We are technical types and dealing with an artist was a new and foreign experience for us. But it all worked out and we have a one of a kind gate that makes a design statement for our home.
