Fantastic job, Aaron holds his work to a very high quality standard and numerous times without being asked he would find small improvements or pro-actively find opportunities to improve the outcome and quality. My wife and I were very please with his team, they communicated well and were very respectful of our home. When surprises popped up along the project, as they always do, he handled them easily and with great integrity. I would highly recommend him.

I had a wonderful experience with Aaron. After meeting with three woodworkers/cabinetry contractors, I selected Aaron, based on his knowledge of his craft, the fact that he listened to my ideas on what I wanted, his close attention to detail, and his fair pricing given the high quality of his work. He was easy to work with and was very responsive, especially to emails. After hiring him for the project, he spent two hours with me on a Saturday discussing the design. I had thought my cabinet project was very straightforward, but his attention to the details made it clear that even the simplest design has a lot of details. His work on the design upfront resulted in a beautifully crafted media cabinet in the end. I had a deadline for having the cabinet installed, and Aaron met the deadline, even though he had to give up a Sunday to get it done. He is very professional and reliable. Aaron was one of the last contractors in a long line of contractors I hired for a significant house remodel. A few of the contractors I selected were not good choices, so I went onto Angie's List to find a reputable cabinet-maker. Aaron had nothing but A reviews, which gave me confidence to contact him, and subsequently hire him. As a single mom with no carpentry or building skills, I have to rely on the opinions of others to find reputable tradespeople. Angie's List served me well in finding Aaron for my cabinet project. I would recommend him to anyone looking to have very high quality woodworking/cabinetry done.

Aaron is a very nice man and highly knowledgeable however his pricing is extremely over the top. His work in photos is beautiful however his pricing would be what is paid for new kitchen cabinets, not a small open back bookcase and entertainment center. I've remodeled a kitchen with very expensive wood cabinets for the price of his bookcase proposal. An open back bookcase is less expensive, as is paintable wood and a few doors 3-4 doors the quote was whopping $10,000 and we were not able to discuss less expensive options. I was extremely disappointed that he didn't give a heads up on his starting prices. He was nice enough to the internet for other options. I visited a local retailer Felton MacLaren and got a custom made bookcase and entertainment center from a local cabinet maker in high quality wood for a ton less. Aaron a very, very nice guy and if I'd won the lottery or had very deep pockets I might consider him in the future but giving them less expensive options is a part of good customer service too, one size doesn't fit all.
Description of Work: Gave an estimate of his work.

Response from Xylo Interiors
I always try to determine what a person is looking for when they ask me to custom build and install a cabinet project in their home or business. In this situation, I really feel there was a misunderstanding of quality. We discussed an L- shaped multipurpose wall unit covering 14 lineal feet of wall space, to be built floor to ceiling, and more specifically in the style of art-deco aesthetic. The upper sections were a combination of open bookcase sections and lower cabinets with closed door and drawer sections. The main entertainment center was to surround an electric fireplace insert. On either side of the fireplace were 2 large paneled columns, each column had 2 bookcase style shelf pullouts for DVD storage, and a cabinet with a sliding door to accommodate the audio/video components. The adjacent wall space was to have 4 file drawers, a pullout desktop, a bank of 4 drawers, and a single door storage cabinet. The upper sections included 5 LED puck lights, and a wall mounted TV. The cabinets were going to be painted using a matching color of conversion varnish (commercial grade) to existing white moldings in the home. When I meet with a client I always like to start with the best possible scenario in terms of quality and for what they generally request/expect – a seamless and flawless product that is made of an imperfect, sometimes hard to machine, natural product. I chose this trade 18 years ago because I loved the idea of hand crafting a tree or plank of wood into a product that would be tailored for every individual and circumstance. I've worked for every scale of income, though I do strongly feel that remodeling is a luxury. I can produce the same high quality work as the well esteemed “Berkeley Mills”. I have veteran employees nearly twice my age that can perform flawless work and techniques to achieve any end result. I also have competent employees who can produce work quickly and on a very tight but reasonable budget. I took a visit to Felton MacLaren and spoke specifically with their sales staff regarding my drawing and what they could offer as a custom solution to my need. They use a local cabinet maker in Oakland that has a line of 3 styles of bookshelves. I inquired about drawer options and they replied that this particular builder only offers fixed shelving with no option for drawers. Fixed shelving in this circumstance means visible screw holes both exterior and interior. Felton offers a painted finish in which none of the screw holes are filled and none of the seams between mouldings and/or cabinet parts are caulked/filled properly. The result is a white cabinet with highlighted dark cracks at each transition and screws that are visibly seen. They offer custom cabinets/bookcases only at 50 -75% surcharges and they do not offer installation. They do offer local delivery for a small fee. I've build my reputation of quality work by being dedicated to learning the most advance techniques, in order to cater to the most discerning clientele while also maintaining a steady stream of referrals from mid-income families. I did not invest my years in this trade to make lots of money, I did it because I care about people and their situation. If someone tells me “ this is good enough for me”, I don't argue; but that is never my starting point. I hope the person reading this calls me and understands that I am dedicated to perfection not production.

Description of Work: Aaron is an excellent carpenter. He built a floating bookcase for us which fits into a nook of our study. The bookcase has been admired by many and commented for its looks. | |Right from the start it has been a great experience working with Aaron. He was always on time for every visit and easily accessible via emails or on phone. We weren't sure whether we wanted a floating bookcase or just book shelves; Aaron was able to present mock up views of both and offered suggestions which finally convinced us to choose the floating book case. Even when it came to selecting the varnish for the bookcase, he wasn't convinced if the color we selected would look good so he made a trip to our house to show the sample varnish and even brought additional colors to select from. We ended up selecting a different color which looked better and blended in with our study. We were glad that Aaron had a keen eye for details. | |The installation went without any hitch and was done quickly. nad the end result was a very good bookcase. | |I would strongly recommend Aaron for any carpentry projects and would gladly engage him again.

We had a tricky project, fitting new cabinets into an existing kitchen. The angles, dimensions, wood grain and color all had to be just right. Aaron did a superb job. His designed was practical, ergonomic, and beautiful. The construction quality is top notch. He and his crew are clean, timely, and trustworthy. Best experience we ever had with any kind of construction or remodeling project.

It took me FOREVER to find a good carpenter so I wanted to take the time to write this review as I had 4 different people come out to give me quotes. Aaron was the first person that came to look at my space that really seemed to understand and listen to what I wanted and really cared about craftsmanship and details. If you want the quickest, cheapest, fastest work then he might not be for you. However, if you want a real craftsman and someone who pays attention to details and really provides a quality end result then he is your man :) He took the time to discuss all the little details and provided a great rendering of what the space would look like. He communicates and responds to emails (I personally love this as I am more of an emailer/texter than a phone person) and is in general responsive and considerate. I absolutely LOVE my built-in and I felt like there was great communication throughout the project. Would definitely recommend and hope to use him again!

Aaron was very responsive and designed a beautiful home office for us that looked exactly the way we wanted it (between craftsman and sleek modern style). There were a few delays because one of Aaron's helpers left the country and a spray gun broke, but Aaron then took time for us to make sure to deliver very high quality work. He upgraded our wood and finish selection free of charge when the wood and material we had selected were not available or not suitable anymore after we changed part of the design half way. Very nice hand made solid wood cabinetry. It seems Aaron would not compromise quality just to get things done faster and that his first priority is to build something good.

Aaron built a beautiful set of custom bookshelves for our Victorian home in Alameda. There were many challenges in the creation of these shelves. We didn't want to cover up the Lincrusta paneling so the shelves had to be engineered to "float" above the paneling and secured into the lathe and plaster wall. The design of the shelves also had to match the style and color of the pre-existing woodwork throughout the house. Our bookshelves are gorgeous and look like they are original to our 1893 house. We would definitely hire Aaron again for any carpentry project - a real gem!

Aaron is meticulous, detailed, extremely knowledgeable about his craft, creative and most importantly, he listens to what his customers want and tries his best to provide them with just that. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than he did on these projects. I think his prices are very reasonable for such top quality work. He and his partner, Mike, are incredibly talented craftsmen who produce excellent results.
Description of Work: Aaron designed, and with his partner, Mike, built and installed a bookcase cabinet around my 65-inch television to my specifications. He designed, built and installed a 5 drawer, solid wood, self closing dresser unit, shoe shelves and closet shelves in my master bedroom closet. They built and installed extra matching top shelves in three bedroom closets, two hall closets and a pantry.

Aaron is a throwback to the time when "carpenters" came with those old 'carpenter' pencils and a yellow sheet and showed you what they heard you ask for before beginning. Then he uses all the latest and best methods, tools, and materials to craft exactly what you wanted BUT he always tells you before hand WHEN what you want 'is not really the best thing" for where/how you want it. He arrived on time for all our work, often alone but just as often with a qualified helper. He seldom cuts or shapes 'inside' keeping a lot of the mess and dust 'outside' which is nice. He kept us informed of progress and noted things that (on occasion) had to be changed for underlying structure issues. Fine Finish Interiors is a licensed contractor, Aaron, did excellent work for us on many occasions up to the most recent July of '12 and we have never regretted using his services. His handiwork has prompted many to ask "who did this work for you?" inspiring yet another referral and we are never disappointed when we hear back from such recommendations. His web site is always behind but shows some of his excellent productions/creations : http://aaronlarson.com/index.html
Description of Work: Aaron at Fine Finish Interiors has made "built in" book cases, kitchen cabinets, bathroom remodeling and cabinets as well as a complete suite of office furnishings (desk, bookshelves, drawers and low cabinets) that have been exceptional in their craftsmanship and quality of materials (his suggestions are always excellent). Our friends have all "ooohed and awwed" over the finished product and the work is always excellently done to our needs and expectations. We had a "built in" bookshelf made into our master bedroom wall and it was completely several years ago. It remains today as perfect and neat as the day finished, a testimony to his selection of product and paint. Our master walk-in closet is exceptional in all maple with subtle lighting boxes to give just the right light for this type of closet. Great work. Our kitchen was done, including soffit, ceiling and canned & track lighting, a few years ago. The cabinets are middle priced (our budget) but everyone thinks they were the 'high' end (they are paint grade maple) productions because they work so well (old fashioned 'glass' in doors, self closing doors). Aaron uses the latest hardware combinations. Our kitchen drawers are all 'slide out' and the envy of many. Aaron took our kitchen from the 20th Century to the 21st and everyone notes how "beautiful" and "functional" it is (as the cook, I can attest to how nicely everything works). He makes custom cabinets for all small areas as well (storage needs count and we wanted every sq. in.) We most recently had some external carpentry work done on main beams and siding and his job was again excellent, professional and completed on time within budget.

I was referred to Aaron from a neighbor. He had built all of their kitchen cabinets. I sent Aaron a sketch of what I was looking for along with a photo of a vanity from Restoration Hardware that inspired my sketch. Aaron asked a ton of questions - about the type of wood, finish, hardware, drawers, etc - many more questions than other cabinet makers I had contacted. This made me realize the quality of the vanity would be far superior than anything I could buy off the rack or have made elsewhere. He cleaned up my sketch and quoted me a price. The price was more than I had planned on spending but I knew the quality of the piece would be worth it. He built the vanity, had it lacquered and delivered the piece when it was finished. He also came back to drill and install the pulls. We ended up remodeling our kitchen as well and wanted to use Aaron. Our contractor convinced us to go with his cabinet maker. The bids were the same and I thought it would be easier to have our contractor work with someone he knew and had worked with before. BIG MISTAKE. I regret not listening to my gut and having Aaron make our cabinets.
