Mr Fix it Handyman Services & Construction

The company contacted me weekly about getting the work done even though I have six months. When I emailed the work I want done and request someone to stop by so I can discuss supplies needed and who should provide them me or handyman, I am told the supplies are my problem if the handyman has to go pick up anything that will cost me. I have no problem with making arrangements with the handyman to pick up supplies and the charges but I would like to discuss those matters beforehand and I did not like their tone it seemed nasty.

I tried for two and a half weeks to make an appointment and a lady there kept telling me the owner would call me and schedule a time. He never did and I’ve made several phone calls.

I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks earlier for Sep 23. The office called and said service man's truck broke down and it was rescheduled for Sep 25. Serviceman did not show up as scheduled and I called the office and spoke with the owner Carlise. I previously spoke with Carlise and told him the property was a duplex and why I purchased additional coupons. He said it was one coupon per address but he would honor the ones that I had already purchased. He apparently forgot this conversation and simply refused to come out to the site.

Mr. HandyMan services saved the day. This was an almost DIY project which could have gone terribly bad had we not called for help. Something that we were procrastinating for more than a year was completed in a little more than 2 hours. This involved Mr. Handyman going into my overcrowded basement and figuring out which pipes blonged to the water line and running the water line, through the floor and to the kitchen and connecting it to the refrigerator. Thank you for your professionalism, knowledge and expertise. I will definitely use this service again.

He attached the new countertop to our new bathroom vanity. He also installed the 2 faucets and attached the new plumbing. This went very well. We had also wanted our kitchen faucet replaced with a new one we had previously purchased. We were told it was the wrong type/size of faucet and that it could not be installed. This ended the service early as the last project could not be completed. However, another plumber we hired to do various projects around the house was able to install the original faucet without incident.

Original attempt a total bust. Guy got lost. Took him 2 1/2 hrs to do 30 min trip. After 3 calls from me to office, guy finally called and could speak so little English that I couldn't even help him get un-lost. I cancelled. Do you really want someone working on your electrical who can't find his way out of a paper bag? I felt sorry for the guy......Should he really be sent forth without a map or directions? With computers and technology today, that should not happen. Office called and apologized and said would reschedule and give me an extra hour. I said OK. This time guy who is owner (I think) came with another man and things got done. They cut time in half but man hours were equal except some of the time the one guy was only watching so not as productive. They installed a light fixture (everything was there, they only had to attach wires). It looked good. Second thing was to hang a large oval mirror. Had some difficulty in getting it hung straight, but finally OK. Third was installing new door handles on most interior doors. That went well. Price thru Angie's list was good. I asked regular rates for future work and was told $65/hr. that seemed a bit high for handyman work. Most I have used are in the $35 to $45 an hour range. I gave the owner credit for trying to correct the first disaster. Without that I would have given an F withoutt fail. He tried to do what he could to not have a bad mark.

It went great. I had some dry rot damage in the garage door framing. I didn't have all the materials for the job so contractor drove to nearby Home Depot to get it and he had some stuff in his truck as well. Job was done with a lot of attention to details with minimum to no damage to the stucco around the garage door.

I bought the 3 hour Big Deal so the price for the service was great. And he was also very polite. He was careful to hang things using studs for support. However, the middle bracket for one of the curtain rods was hung way off center (I think to find a stud) such that the curtain cannot close to the center. I have not yet called to ask them to fix, but hoping they will come move it. Also, we wanted him to hang a new chandelier, but it ended up being a more complicated fixture than most and it seemed like it was going to take too long and be too complicated for him (and I didn't want to take any risks with electrical). So we later had to call an electrician, who was able to do it fairly quickly.

The vendor and I agreed to the morning of May 15. They did not arrive at the agreed-upon time, so I called. They informed me that they neglected to put my appointment on their schedule and that they would send someone when available. The workmen appeared six hours after the originally scheduled time. In addition, they only did one hour of work even though I paid for three.

Service was on time and all repairs were done in a professional manner. Mr. Fix It is the best and I have hired several contractors in the past to do jobs and there was always something wrong where I would not hire the same company again. Mr. Fix it called ahead to schedule to appointment and showed up on time. All of the work was done perfectly and I am impressed. I will definitely hire Mr. Fix it for all of my repairs and highly recommend them.

I purchased the Big Deal 7/20/13 and never heard back from the provider. I was asked by Angie's List via email I believe on 7/24 (it could have been later) if I had heard back and I completed the web form indicating that I had not but would like to. I never heard back from Angie's or Mr. Fix It. Finally I called and requested a refund as it seemed that I was not going to get the service I had been charged for. I was told I would have to fill out a form and request a refund--I basically threw a mini-tantrum since I was canceling due to their dropping the ball rather than my changing my mind. The rep talked to their supervisor and was able to process the refund form on my behalf. I received notice of my refund on 8/21/13. I also took the opportunity to opt out of the Big Deal program to avoid wasting my time in the future. I was a bit surprised that there was no follow up other than repeated requests for me to review the work performed! Sigh... Anyway, I decided to document my experience. I'm not sure where the ball got dropped. Mr Fix It didn't contact me after I purchased the Big Deal. Angie's List did not contact me after I requested it--based on their asking if I received contact. I really like the original Angie's List concept--I was not impressed with the Big Deal concept.

On time but argued with me about the jobs he was suppose to do. He called him company to make sure he was suppose to do all 4 jobs.

Mr Fix-it was fantastic. He was professional, courteous and best of all he was thorough. Everything I wanted done was done with perfection I am going to hire them again real soon. Great price for the coupon as well I have already recommended them to my friends in the area.

The above review tells the story. Would hire them again . Just not thru Angie's list big deal. That was a mistake. The young lady who works the desk and phone really did her best to accommodate me. It just was not to be.

The company was slow to respond a couple of times - setting up the initial appointment and then having to set up a follow up appointment. The driver was not able to come on the original date as the work vehicle broke down - I can accept that as something out of their control and was flexible. However, when they called me and asked if I had alternative dates, I gave them to the dispatcher but did not hear back and finally received a call back about a week later to set a new date. Reyes did show up on time for the new appointment, was very professional, explained some things to me that I can do and I was very impressed with his work and the time he took to complete the items. I have to say he was very neat and cleaned up after the jobs, which I have found lacking in other contractors. I was very happy with the service and will definitely recommend them to other people.

I originally signed up for a $99/3 hours of handyman work via a Big Deal. Scheduling was easy and flexible with the company -- we mostly did it over email and I was also able to make a schedule change via phone call when my work schedule interfered with our original plans. Reyes came out to do two toilet installs for the Big Deal. Turns out that when he pulled the (originally-installed, 30 years ago) toilets up, the metal flange that the bolts would seat in was rusted through on both toilets. The 3 hour big deal ended up being a few hooks hung in the wall, a temporary install of one toilet, and an estimate for a bathroom renovation that was a 4 day job scheduled for 2 weeks later. We could have gotten by on just re-cementing new flanges, but we had cosmetic water damage on the existing linoleum anyway, so pulling it all up and replacing seemed a better idea. For this bigger job, we agreed on an estimate and scope of work and signed a contract which included payments at three points in the job. The contracted amount was mainly for labor, I supplied most of the materials separately. It was nice that Reyes picked up the cabinets at the local warehouse and was also willing to pick up the vinyl sheeting (it was easier for me to do it within the job's time constraints, so I did) at no extra charge. Demo was done one day, then painting and cleaning another, flooring/toilet/cabinets the third, with baseboards/plumbing/final toilet install on the fourth. Quality of work was good, there was some minor leaking that was fixed on the last day of the job. All-in-all it was a good experience, as far as unexpected remodels go. At one point, Reyes noted that he couldn't warranty the flooring because he thought the aluminum shower frame was rusting through and would result on water pooling at the caulk point on the floor, so he provided an estimate for rebuilding the whole shower stall in order to get the floor warrantied. We declined the 3k upsell and decided to work on the frame ourselves, taking the risk on the floor. This turned out to be a good move, because aluminum doesn't rust and it turns out the frame/pan just needed to be disassembled to get the lime deposits and other forms of 30 year gunk scrubbed/sanded off and the whole thing re-caulked after we put it back together. For my spouse, the upsell was upsetting and he would probably not want to use the company again (although he might have just been upset that he had to spend a weekend working on the shower ASAP so as not to ruin the new floor). I don't feel quite as strongly about the upsell, since people make money by doing jobs, and if they see a job that can be done, why not suggest it? There was also a miscommunication about where to put the old boxes that the cabinets/fixtures came in, and I ended up moving them over to our HOA's recycling area from the dumpster and breaking them down myself over the weekend. Not a big issue in the grand scheme of things, and I probably hold some responsibility for not walking them out there with him. Those were the only issues I had over the 4 or 5 days Reyes was at our home. At any rate, if you have a job with a clear scope of work and no surprises lurking underneath the floor, it seems like Mr. Fix-It is a good option.

The were very punctual and nice but follow-up wasn't that great. The person never came back to paint the door or put the weather stripping or door handle on. They said that the switch for the window was old and searched for one but it never got resolved. I thought they were very nice and friendly and did try but after a while I never heard from them, so the job never was completed. Granted, they haven't billed me for the extra time but I'd like to have it done.

It took months for the provider to schedule fix it services .... the first few projects they could not do .... finally when they did schedule an appointment they came 6 hours late ( I took off work and some personal expense) and they told me they could not provide the service I asked for! A complete RIP-OFF!

No thing was done because the owner and the employee still complaining, wasted my money . Be aware of this company before calling or buying any voucher associated with Mr Fix it Handyman and construction.

It turned out really well. They were prompt and efficient. They knew what they were doing. They were very courteous and kind. They explained to me what was happening.

The individual that came to my house (I cannot remember his name) was very professional and pleasant to work with. He was able to complete the long list of tasks I had for him competently and in a timely manner.
