Description of Work: "Im am so disappointed in this paint contractor. I am a licensed painting and decorating contractor my self. I hired MBJ because we had worked with them up in Santa Rosa and it seemed that they were on time and did good work. They were hired to paint the exterior of my 1953 mid century home which had not been painted professionally for maybe 20+ years. I am a new owner as of 3 years. I explained to Matt Jessee, the owner, the one and only time I saw him on my job site, that I intended to live in this house till Im 90, so I want a good paint job. We were getting long into the year, temperatures were cooling down and there had been some sprinkles. The feeble attempt of preparation I got out of this crew,( often only 1 or 2 persons) was dismal and I had to feel like I had to micro manage. The reason I went with a main stream contract painting company, was so that I wouldn't have to micro manage. I have a day job already! One of their guys slopped paint all over the new redwood steps with utterly no care. Their foreman cleaned it up and apologized for his assistants mess. The week before thanksgiving, Albino, the foreman, told me that they would not be here on the following day and that he would have to go to help his crew for a day or two some where else. It has now been from the 12th of November to the 7th of December and I have seen hide nor hair of MB jessee and his crew, no calls, no Emails. Oh and did I tell you they wanted half of the money and I told the office gal that this was not my policy to pay above and beyond with out seeing a little bit of work first. They insisted it was in the contract so I agreed begrudgingly to pay it, what a fool that made me |because they have just disappeared leaving all of my windows taped over with an obscure plastic film, they used tape that is not approved for prolonged application in some places and now it has become one with the item is was taped to. Their idea of priming was to spot prime, a little here a little there. In my life I have never seen a more unprofessional handling of a paying clients project. To top that off, Im not a clueless homeowner, I painted for 23 years all over the bay area, I know how this is suppose to work. Honestly if they weren't holding nearly 8 thousand dollars of my money, Id fire them on a dime. My carpenters, roofer, electrician, and interior painter are all asking whats going on with the exterior painters? And further more, I don't believe its up to me to be making threatening phone calls, they are suppose to be PROFESSIONAL, that means you talk to your client, you tell your client whats going on. Total lack of Professionalism. Unless I see a great turnaround I would no way ever recommend this contractor again. Sadly Disappointed in Oakland"
