The crew brought the road base and partially compacted it but ran out of gas. I inspected the turf they brought and it was different from the sample he had initially shown me. ( I found out later that the sample piece had been discontinued for years.) On the roll of artificial turf that was brought, the tufts of grass could be pulled out easily. Guys on the crew were also pulling them out. they took it back and got another roll. The same condition existed with that roll as well. I called the artificial turf company and they stated that they have a bad batch and do not have them install it. So I told the crew what they said and they called their boss. They handed me the phone and he said that I am wasting his time and he is not going to finish the job and that he will return $500.00 of the $750.00 deposit I gave him. A rather strange reaction to blame the customer for wasting his time on a manufacture defect. The whole time the crew is still out of gas and only compacted a small amount of the yard. I asked the crew if they would like to come back on their own to finish the job, they declined the offer. I of course did not receive the refund we had agreed upon, plus I need to start all over again finding another turf installer. I put in a complaint with the contractors state license board but eventually (months later) they simply send you a letter stating you should go to small claims court. They also said that he charged me way too much for the deposit. Ca law states that a deposit must not exceed 10% of the job cost . So a $2700.00 job means $270.00 deposit. He charged $750.00. Live and learn. Stay clear of these guys to avoid the headache and waste of time.
