Travis was a disappointment. I am an IT guy so I think I can recognize another competent IT guy and Travis seemed to be one. His service was to be a gift for an older female friend in the San Rafael area who has struggled with getting all her IT stuff to work together. I live near Chicago so simply can't get there to do this work myself. I emailed Travis a carefully compiled list of the several things that needed doing to get her home network straightened out. At the time I placed the service order with him I offered to give him a Visa card number to pay for the service. He declined, saying he would invoice me. I mention this because my difficulties don't have anything to do with payment. He called her, as I requested, and arranged a visit the afternoon of 6/3. He arrived about an hour and a half late (called to say he would be late, so I'm OK with that) then left after about an hour and a half of work, having completed very little of what I requested. At that time my friend told Travis that her time in San Rafael was limited (just over a week) and that he needed to reschedule soon to get the rest of the work done. From the time he left until my writing this review, all attempts to reach Travis were unsuccessful. He recommends email, so I sent email. I left voicemail, which his outgoing message says will be returned in a day. I finally sent text, which his outgoing voicemail message says is permitted for existing clients, which I supposed we were. Nothing, nada, zip over the period 6/3 to 6/9 when I am writing this. So while my initial assessment was that he might possess sufficient skills to do basic IT support, and this was based just on a brief phone call, Travis lacks the maturity to manage client relationships professionally. My mistake was to continue to try to contact him to reschedule. I wasted valuable time and now the tasks will have to wait until the next time she is in the area. This whole thing has left me puzzled. I have been a freelancer myself and so understand that sometimes the days are long and you get busy. The solution is that you just work to finish the jobs. My friend would have accommodated any scheduled time - evening, early morning, whatever - to get this done had Travis just returned a phone call. Travis is a pleasant person. We had no difficulties personally. He just showed up late, failed to complete the work and then was unreachable / unavailable to finish what he'd started. I won't hire him again. I plan not to pay any bill he submits and would not recommend him to anyone else.
Description of Work: Travis arrived late. he called to say he would be late but then had to leave before getting done any of the list of things I had carefully prepared for him to do. He promised to reschedule to complete the work and the inference was that this would happen in the next day or so. Thereafter he was unreachable and unresponsive via any of the methods he suggested on his websire - email, phone, text.

I've used 3 other people to trouble shoot on my Mac and all were only somewhat helpful and charged an arm and a leg. Travis at Marin Mac Tech was very clear, professional and patient. He is extremely knowledgeable but didn't make me feel like an idiot for being less so. My computer had been running very slow, using up the battery quickly and occaisionally freezing. Travis pinpointed the problem and explained it to me in lay terms I could understand. We need to do a complete overhaul of the computer as it is a bit old but he is giving me a very good project based price for this as opposed to his regular hourly fee. His hourly fee though is quite reasonable and he is extremely fair. We lost some time on his intial visit because his cable was faulty and he did not charge me for that time. In addition, he followed up with an e-mail laying out next steps and answering in more detail questions I had had about purchasing a new printer and new computer. He is up to date on all things Mac and as professional as one could want. I can't rate Marin MacTech highly enough.
Description of Work: Ran diagnostic on my Mac Book Pro, backed up the hard drive, reconfigured network, gave me useful productivity tips. Also researched questions I had about purchasing a new all-in-one printer.

The price listed is for two hours. He talks to you like a normal human being. He is really on the ball in terms of communication. He offered excellent customer service and I am happy with this experience. I would absolutely use him again.
Description of Work: I was having printing problems. I was told my printer was no longer workable, but it actually was. He reinstalled software that made my printer work again. He also cleaned up both my laptop and computer and installed new software.
