As it went along, we found many more things that needed work or repair and Larry took on and did them promptly. He made thoughtful recommendations, which kept in mind that this project was leading to its rental and cost was always an issue. He listened to my needs and input and did his best to accommodate them. The whole project took a bit over a week. We had to wait for some needed parts. While we waited and with my knowledge, he fit in a few other small jobs during that time. His final (and only, as he paid for the materials along the way) bill included nearly $150 in parts, paint, etc., as well as his trips to get them. Much cheaper than I'd have to have paid. Got things from online sources--example: small Par30 flood lights for ceilings which I've paid $14-16 for, he got online for $4 each. And it all was done right! With Larry, I really did get that it isn't what the rate you pay is but what you get for the price! Larry gave us more bang for the buck than I've gotten in a very long time. Highly, highly recommended!
Description of Work: We were readying our Novato condo to convert in into a rental after living in it for nearly 10 years. After seeing his excellent reviews on Angies List, I called him and he came over to look it over within a day. His rate was $50 per hour and he thought that it would be about a $600 job. Even 'tho $50 per hour made me wince, we took a deep breath and hired him. Knowing we needed to get it on the market asap, he started right in. Some of the things he dealt with included:Patching/spackling/touchup painting of holes in walls and ceilings, installing an overhead light in a bedroom, fixing several overhead combo light/vent fans, rehab sliding glass doors, rehabbing a bathroom vanity (saving replacement), repaired kitchen sink chipped porcelain, fixed refrigerator water dispenser, took down/diagnosed/fixed and reinstalled large over-range microwave and more!

Overall, excellent. It took some time between when he came to see what needed to be repaired and the repair getting done but it was worth the wait.
Description of Work: Fixed floor of cabinet underneath sink that got ruined after water damage. He did an excellent job and water prrofed the replacement floor. Would highly recommend Larry.

I had just purchased my first home/condo and was completely inexperienced and unprepared for doing any remodeling or repair projects. I found Larry Wick through Angie's List and saw he lived in the area and had positive reviews so I called to meet up with him to discuss all the work I thought I needed him to do. Larry responded quickly to my email and from the first meeting I was so glad I called him. Not even knowing where to start, I initially made a list which I felt was pretty accurate and complete but with Larry's help that list was greatly improved and prioritized. He offered valuable suggestions and alternatives, explained thoroughly and clearly what was involved, showed me how things worked, and on his own initiative even went so far as to troubleshoot potential defects or problems that were not mentioned in the inspection report and I had not noticed. That extra attention was definitely above and beyond what I had even expected or thought to ask for, was greatly appreciated, and reinforced my confidence in Larry's work ethic, integrity, and skill. There's more. As it turned out I was gone working much of the time and while he was on site he had chance encounters with a few of my new neighbors including an individual connected with the HOA. Again, as a direct result of Larry's initiative, the HOA investigated and had repaired a pretty significant water leak that would have probably been fixed down the road but because of Larry's intervention, the problem was addressed much more quickly. Without Larry's expertise, patience, flexibility and calm professional manner I can safely say I would never have survived this ordeal. My condo is now completely transformed and, in all honesty, it is the direct result of all of Larry's hard work. I would never hesitate to work with Larry again and would highly recommend him for any remodeling, installation or repair.
Description of Work: In the kitchen removed old formica countertop, installed new butcher block tops and new sink. Replaced kitchen faucet and garbage disposal. In the bathroom removed huge mirror, vanity, sink and cabinet and replaced with new cabinet/sink/faucet. Painted bathroom, cleaned tile and grout and put in new caulking, replaced shower head, hung mirror, shower and towel bars. Hung curtain rods and curtains in three rooms and installed pleated shade in kitchen. Cleaned dryer vent. Fixed sliding glass door slide lock. Drove to Santa Rosa to pick up butcher block.

Larry was at my house on time and completed the "honey do" list in one afternoon. He was friendly with my kids, and worked around us. He came with his truck and had everything we might have needed for the job there, so he didn't have to spend a lot of time driving to a hardware store. His price was reasonable and appropriate. I have paid less, but got what I paid for which is why I needed to find Larry.

We have a newborn so we have little time and can't afford to not use our sink. Larry responded quickly and got our sink back working when we needed it.
Description of Work: Larry is the best! Our garbage disposal stopped working twice. The first time the electrical switch broke. Larry made sure to ask me the size and color of the electric plate BEFORE he came over so that he could fix the whole thing in one trip. The second time, we jammed the garbage disposal with a wire bottle brush. Again, Larry quickly came over and fixed it. I highly recommend him.

I'm very happy with the job. He answered when I called. There were a lot of companies that never answered or called me back (not the case with him). When he did say he was going to come out, he came out on time and stayed with his quoted price. The cleanup was excellent. There wasn't anything I had to do when he was done.

Larry came over promptly and was a delight to work with. He took the whole freezer apart and tested all components; replaced one which was questionable. Impressed me as being knowlegable and professional. When part came in, he came back and installed it. Everything was terrific except problem remains unsolved. I like him and would use him again, and he charged a very reasonable price, but I still don't know how to fix my problem. So I liked everything about the experience except the end result.

When the front panel on my dishwasher failed, I ordered the replacement panel online. After it arrived, I found Larry's name through Angie's List and called him. He said he would come sometime the afternoon of the following business day (a Monday). He also asked for the model number of my dishwasher so that he could get familiar with its specs before he came. On Monday late afternoon, he called before he arrived to say he was on his way. After he checked the appliance, he said he suspected it was the electronics board that was faulty, rather than the front pushbutton panel I'd ordered. To avoid ruining my panel by installing it to see if that fixed the problem (once it's installed, the online seller absolutely would not allow me to return it), Larry said he could get the electronics board from his supplier in San Rafael the following day. His supplier had a slight delay in obtaining it (no big deal). Larry picked up the board on Wednesday morning and installed it, only to discover that that did not fix the problem. It was the front panel that was defective after all. Larry uninstalled the electronics board (at no cost to me!) and put in the part I'd bought online. It's worked beautifully since then. Total cost for all of Larry's time on my behalf: $50. That seemed very reasonable. If I had it to do over, I'd let him buy the part to avoid delays. Since I'd seen the online discounted price of the electronics board, I know that the price he quoted me on it was comparable. If Larry had supplied the front panel, he probably would have bought and installed it on Monday, and if it hadn't worked, he'd have just taken it back. I appreciated that Larry didn't want to install my panel that day, because he knew I'd have to eat it on the cost of the part ($90) if it did not fix the problem.

Larry is a very nice guy. He cleans up after himself and does an outstanding job with appliance repairs, although he advertises as a handyman. I've had guys from Sears appliance service at my home who were not as knowledgeable, equipped or competent, and they charged a lot more than Larry did. I think he needs to raise his labor rate just a tad. He's worth more than he currently charges, as his workmanship and customer service is excellent.
Description of Work: I spoke to Larry and explained what the problem was and gave him the make, model # and serial # of our Maytag Neptune gas dryer which was heating up inconsistently. Larry came the following day after making the appointment. He had a very good idea what was wrong with our dryer and picked up the parts ahead of time, so the problem was fixed in the same visit. He also looked at a leak at the back of our fridge. That problem required parts (tubing and couplers) that neither of us could get locally. He got them in another town and returned the following day and finished that job, as well. All went very smoothly.

Fantastic. Please see the answer above for the story from start to finish.
Description of Work: Larry Wick returned my call immediately, came by and gave me a reasonable and fair estimate to fix our automatic sprinkler system. He went right to work identifying and fixing the problems, which included a leak at the water source, several broken sprinkler heads and plugged drip heads. He even looked in the bushes to locate broken sprinkler heads to save us money on parts. Our business is a small non-profit agency with only one person authorized to sign checks. I informed Larry that we wouldn't be able to pay him until later in the week and he said that was fine. He did excellent work at a fair price and agreed to wait to be paid. We couldn't ask for anything more. I highly recommend Larry Wick's services and I'm relieved that we finally found a reliable, professional handyman.

I called Larry on a Friday, got a call back on Sat am and he came by Saturday late afternoon to review the varied tasks I had and myriad small repairs needed. As he charges standard $50/hr rate, I didn't request an advance estimate, just discussed when he could return the next day and start on the list. He came right on time, has an amazing truck with everything you could possibly need him to have and immediately set about doing all the furniture assembly (media console, two wooden chaise lounges) and repairs (door lock alignment, gate mechanism fix). These were accomplished swiftly and well. Plus he consulted with me on: new hardware for my front doors (he is acquiring for me through wholesaler); two replacement doors I am considering for downstairs; toilet mechanisms; a potential water heater fix that I can accomplish myself at no cost; and review of a deck that may be rotting in some places, including taking measurements and based on a sample materials on hand, gave me a rough estimate of the materials cost (not labor) it would run to replace the entire deck. All in the space of a few hours. Excellent service and professionalism - will absolutely recommend and continue to use.

My tar and gravel roof had a minor leak near the skylight in the bathroom. I noticed it and wanted to have it fixed right away since more rain was coming on its way in a couple of days. I left Larry a message and he called back the same day. When we connected and he was willing to come by and take a look at it on his way home from another job though it was already past 6pm. He did the inspection in the dark and found the leak coming from the curving/joining of the tar and gravel to meet the skylight. Since it was getting dark and difficult to see clearly if another spot might be leaking as well. Larry made time to return the next day in day light to fix it before it rained. I was originally worried since rain was expected to pour again soon and it did throughout the end of February and heavy all of March. So far, I have not seen any leak and was fully at peace. I didn't get to inspect the work since it is on the roof, but I know Larry has completely hosted the area and cleaned the area well before patching it and making sure the cause of the leak was fixed. Larry also did a close inspection and let me know what problems were involved and took pictures for me as I requested. I was fully satisfied with the work done and find Larry knowledgeable and professional. I plan to call and ask Larry to return when rainy season is over and possibly re-coat the roof with elastomeric paint and a couple other things I have been wanting to get done.
Description of Work: Minor leak at curvature where skylight and tar & gravel joined due to a crack. Leak goes through and dripped from ceiling, which is constructed of wood in tongue & groove style (known as Alliance homes).

It went well. He pretty much knew what the problem would be (a solonoid switch) but he did have problems getting the dryer open to find the part. He got the wrong info about how to open it up, but with help of the computer, we figured it out. He had the diagnosis pretty quick but he double checked to make sure and then had the part replaced the next day really fast. He made sure he got back before I had to go to work so I could get my clothes cleaned, which I appreciate.
Description of Work: My dryer would not heat so I called Larry because of the good reviews he received. He came when he said he would, diagnosed the problem and came back the next day to replace the part. He went out of his way to pick up the part, while having to take care of his wife who had knee replacement surgery recently. He only charged us for the one day and he is a really nice guy. Turns out we went to high school and worked with his youngest brother, which made the choice even better.

Larry was responsive; prompt, efficient and engaging. He is competent at diagnosing problems and discussing alternative solutions. He attempted a basic fix of the running water which was called to our attention by our local water companyproblem. He solved the problem by replacing the flush mechanisms. Because of the age and condition of the toilet , after a month the problem recurred. Larry assessed the problem and suggested that we replace the guilty unit with a low flow toilet. He shopped options and prices and we went with his recommendation, and decided to replace 3 toilets, all of the same vintage. He picked up the units, paid for them, and installed them. Problem solved. We would use Larry again in a heartbeat.

He was on time, polite and professional. He went above and beyond the job - didn't just fix the curtain rod that was troubling us but also noticed that the same problem could eventually happen to the one next to it and volunteered to fix that as well. It was all done quickly, within an hour, minimum of fuss or mess.

We just moved in to a new house and had 10 items needing fixing including hanging and fixing a shower rod and towel racks, weatherproofing doors and fixing a faucet. While talking with me on the phone to schedule an appointment, Larry told me how to fix two of the items. In his first visit, he fixed everything we needed fixing. He also found that our patio doors did not close and lock easily so he fixed that also. Larry was very professional and did great work. We will hire him again for anything we need done around the house.

This is the second time I have hired Larry to do a number of assorted tasks. He hung about 25 very heavy pictures and mirrors, towels racks and installed a new kitchen faucet. He put together a large metal bed and hung many curtain rods around the house. Larry is the perfect professional. He gets right to work, doesn't engage in any chit chat which could take time away from the jobs at hand. Everything he did was done with care and attention to detail. I can honestly say that he is the hands down best person I have ever hired for any reason! I recommend him to anyone who wants things done right. Once you've had Larry do a job, you will unquestionably recommend him to your friends!
