We finished building our house last year but I never got around to finalizing the configuration of my home office. After nearly a year, I decided on the layout and rather than use oneof the cabinet makers we contracted with for the house (one awful, one quite good but scheduling didn't work), I found Eric on Angie's List. The entire process was great. I value attention to detail, quality and my time...and Eric was punctual, easy to communicate with and his product and work are first rate. I would highly recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again for future projects. Thanks Eric...office is great!

Eric was a joy to work with. He always arrived on time for our appointments, called ahead and provided us a very polite, professional service at all times. He came over for a consultation at first, to take some measurements and talk with us about what we wanted. He then designed a solution for us that was even better than we could have imagined. The quality of his work is phenomenal, down to the tiniest detail. Our shelves and cabinets are now the focal point of our living room. We look forward to having him return to build more built-in cabinets throughout our home. Our cabinets fill the entire wall, well over 16' long and deep enough to store loads and loads of stuff. There are both cabinets and drawers on the bottom, and book shelves on top. Along the ceiling he installed lights, and each of the book shelves have a piece of glass inside so that the light shines through. At night the whole thing lights up beautifully, showcasing our books and knick knacks. He even accommodated the power switches along the wall, building them into the design so that we could still use them from the counter tops.
Description of Work: We hired Mr Sawdust to build a custom wall unit, both shelves and cabinets, for a long wall in our living room.

The owner of the company is in the middle of working on the cabinets for us. The job is not done yet. He is not the most professional and he does not have the highest of corporate identity. There are others that certainly had a more appropriate image but he is a one-man show. He has guys that work for him but he does everything. He does the quote, the installation, the building, the delivery and everything. His creativity, flexibility and customizing our design for us was the reason why we went with a custom cabinet because nothing off the shelf met our needs. We gave three plans back and forth and once we did the initial contact, he came over and checked out our scenario and we then emailed back and forth trading drawings and ideas and we talked about tweaking and the changes in the price and he was very responsive in coming back with what the changes would be and how he was working with the plan. We were very happy with the interaction and we would recommend him. Our last contact with him was last week but we are in the middle of the project so we go back and forth talking about some things.

Perfectly. He performed as promised. Always on time and always prepared. The cabinet looks perfect and cost way less than installing a new cabinet. I appreciated his recommendations. I had some ideas that he listened to and incorporated into the final product. I would use Mr. Sawdust again!

All the custom cabinetry was made by Eric, and stained by his associated finisher under his direction. Everything was delivered by him, and installed in the most precise manner (I am a bit of a perfectionist, and was watching like a hawk). Eric?s standards for accuracy are higher than mine. I even commented on that, and he said he needed to do his work to standards that satisfied him, knowing that most customers do not appreciate his detail accuracy. We chose to have Eric build and install our kitchen only after having met with at least a dozen other kitchen re-modelers, half of whom built their own custom cabinets. Eric?s price was very competitive, and with the design assistance he gave us, we were more than able to resolve a truly custom kitchen that meets our specific demands. Eric was on site several times prior to the installation of the cabinets, speaking with other sub-contractors (specifically the electrician and the plumber) making sure that their intended efforts worked with the cabinet designs. He modified the design in a couple of instances to comply with their needs. We could not be happier with the results of our work with Eric. He is very easy to deal with, supportive of our desires, yet very helpful and suggestive of the details that make for success in such a project. We have already discussed with him other custom cabinet needs that we have identified for our home. We certainly recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Eric assisted us in the complete design of the cabinets for our remodeled kitchen. In addition, he designed and built a bathroom vanity, and provided new doors for our laundry room cabinets, as well as additional crown molding for the eating area in the kitchen, and the adjoining hallway. Our kitchen remodel included a large peninsula with cabinets on both sides, an efficiency lazy-susan corner cabinet, a custom cabinet for a built-in under-counter microwave, a new second pantry (we reversed a portion of an adjoining bedroom closet into the kitchen), a custom end-of-cabinet pull-out cookbook two shelf drawer, and a custom over-the-sink cabinet header that ties the cabinets on both sides of the kitchen together, and extends out into the garden window. We chose to make extensive use of drawers in our kitchen, not just the typical silverware level drawers, but huge drawers on heavy duty glides to contain pot and pans and other cooking utensils. The amount of useable storage space in the cabinets (without having to get down on ones knees to load and unload lower shelves) has been increased incredibly!!! On an unused wall space with an air-conditioning return near the floor, Eric designed and built a cabinet with a base that opens to contain the air-conditioning filter, and above that, cabinetry to the ceiling.

I contacted Mr. Sawdust (Eric) after reading his excellent reviews from Angie's List. He showed up on time, provided me with a very detailed diagram and straightforward estimate within a few days of coming to my house. We decided to contract with Eric because he presented as very professional, and really seemed to care about big and small details for my media unit. I had two other companies come to my house to give estimates - of the three Eric really stood out with his attention to detail, and concern for my vision of exactly how I wanted it built/designed. Eric completed the unit earlier than expected, and installed it very carefully and efficiently. We used his painter to finish it, and Eric came over on two different occasions while the painter was working to make sure that things were moving along as expected. In the end our media unit/shelf is AMAZING!!!!! The cabinets and drawers are perfect, and he designed the middle area so that the tv really stands out while looking elegant. Everyone who has walked into my home has commented on how beautiful it is. My husband asked when we can have Eric come back to do more upgrades in our home! I would highly recommend Eric - he really went above and beyond my expectations and created a beautiful piece for us to enjoy! It is apparent that he is proud of his workmanship and really wants to please his customers.

After speaking with another cabinet maker who provided us with some great ideas on making the space more functional but who provided a very high quote, we had Eric come over to look, provide ideas and an estimate. He made some additional creative suggestions and recommended using a plywood for the drawers and shelves made with a soy-based glue instead of formaldehyde-based glue, which makes me ill. The other contractor wanted to use pine, which would be more expensive and less durable. The cabinet doors and drawer fronts were made of mixed hardwood, since we were planning to paint instead of stain and this material would be cheaper than un-mixed wood. Unfortunately, the mixed pieces of wood absorbed the paint we used (special zero-VOC paint) differently, creating irregular surfaces that required multiple additional sandings and coats of paint to create a smooth surface (at additional cost from our painter). We don't fault Eric for this, but the paint primer, which otherwise performed well throughout the house, except some of the other wood surfaces. Eric and his assistant were very professional, creative, and concerned with the craftsmanship of their work. Their quote came in at 2/3 of the other quote we obtained. Also, he introduced us to the formaldehyde-free plywood, readily available, which we're very grateful for given how toxic formaldehyde off-gassing into the indoor air is. Eric does the work himself, so if you prefer working with an owner-operator who takes pride in what he does while providing competitive pricing, we strongly recommend him.
Description of Work: Our newly purchased home, built in 1957, has a relatively small kitchen (for example, only four drawers prior to Eric's work). Eric helped us completely reorganize the space without pulling out any cabinet frames by 1) installing 2 large, deep drawers under the cook top where we only had shelves for pots and pans, 2) adding two small drawers directly under the cook top for cooking utensils, 3) adding 4 14" x 6" drawers to the left of the cook top where there had been an open cabinet space for a wastebasket, 4) to the right of the cook top, removing two skinny vertical corner doors with a divider between them leading to a huge corner space that was almost unusable because of the narrow size of the doors and replacing them with a single bi-fold door without the divider, creating easy access, 5) adding 4 adjustable shelves to a utility cabinet to make it an extra pantry, 6) converting another two shelf area into two large pull-out drawers, 7) converting a shallow drawer under the oven into a deep drawer, 8) adding vertical dividers in a large open space above the oven for trays and sheets, 9) adding an adjustable shelf to a cabinet that had one shelf and needed another, 10) replacing all existing drawer fronts and cabinet doors, adding European style hinges, 11) providing a new breadboard, 12) installing a shelf under the kitchen sink and a kick board to repair damage from mold abatement, 13) and doing misc. repairs around the house for an additional reasonable hourly rate.

This job included a vanity and a few other cabinets for a bathroom. The vanity had a number of angles and had to fit into a tight space like a puzzle piece. Hence, the fabrication and installation were tricky. I was very impressed with Eric's knowledge, skill, craft and problem solving. He was also a great listener ; he understood my requirements and never forgot them. As someone who is a design professional I have worked with a number of cabinet makers. I would regard Eric as top notch and would not hesitate to recommend him for any job.

It was a tricky job since my kitchen and living room are connected and they both use the same cabinetry (Bird's Eye Maple). Over time the maple has faded, due to sunlight exposure. Eric advised me to use some existing cabinet doors that were being tossed away. This not only saved me $$$, but matched the existing cabinetry. They were extremely cordial and cleaned up everything at the completion of the job. If you want a professional job, at a fair price I'd use Mr Sawdust.
Description of Work: Eric did an EXCELLENT job on three projects: 1. removed a trash compactor and installed a new garbage system 2. installed facia to a microwave opening 3. boxed in a flat screen TV and also realigned my media center shelving.

Eric was one of three cabinetmakers from whom we had originally received quotes. Although all seemed qualified, my husband was very impressed with Eric's friendly demeanor and even more so when Eric submitted his quote along with highly detailed sketches that gave us a very good idea of what the end product would look like. No one else had bothered to render drawings so specific. When we were ready to begin the project, Eric was professional, enthusiastic and displayed a keen interest in his craft. Although I had a strong sense of the style details I preferred for the pieces, and I am quite particular, I was uncertain as to how to clearly convey my ideas. Eric very kindly had a number of molding options made up and shipped to us. This was followed by a meeting during which he sketched additional details so that we had a clear visual guide. As I am chemically sensitive, I also had several other issues which needed to be addressed. The type of materials used were a concern to me. Eric made the extra effort of sourcing non toxic materials that were suitable for this project. In addition to realizing our vision so completely, Eric went above and beyond. He helped us out in a number of ways including correcting an error made by a vendor in another area of our home, as well as taking care of a few other things for us and not charging us for his extra work. As far as the work schedule itself, the timeline was exactly as he had promised. His work ethic was excellent. Always on time. Even early! He was mindful of keeping the work area clean and, taking my allergies into account, keeping the dust to a minimum. The final pieces turned out beautifully, exactly as we had hoped. We are looking forward to working with Eric again on a number of additional projects for our home.

Our experience with Eric was totally positive from the beginning of our projects until the end. He was highly professional, worked very closely with us and involved us in every step of the process. We explained our vision, he came up with the design, and continually asked for our feedback as the work progressed. It is obvious that the relationship with his customers is a top priority. He is a highly skilled craftsman, reliable, personable, and his attention to detail and the pride he takes in his work is obvious. For these reasons, we our happy to give Eric our highest recommendation.

We recently moved into a new home. Our refrigerator was too tall for the designated spot in the kitchen. Eric came out on a Sunday morning to give an estimate. He was able to squeeze us in a couple weeks later. He did such a great job that you can't even tell that he altered the cabinets in any way!

Eric was great from the beginning. We interviewed 4 companies before choosing Eric, and we have no regrets! We had a very specific modern design that we wanted perfectly executed. We wanted 12' high white gloss modern shelves, with a matching desk and credenza perfectly sculpted to fit into the room. (The room by the way, has angled walls -- very chic and modern, but tough to build into). The other companies we interviewed seemed to need to adjust our design in order to build -- but Eric was clear from day 1 about how to build it, and also what it would involve. His initial estimates were correct, and there were no surprises or overages. About a day into the construction, we realized that there was a design modification that we needed to make (in a section that he had already installed). Eric was totally accommodating and made the adjustment the way we wanted. Even though it was more work for him, in the end he said that he was happy he made it because it made the design better. I loved the integrity he had and how willing he was to work with us. He also built us a projector screen valance -- fit to our wonky angled walls -- and it turned out beautiful. Photos of all of these projects should be available on his website soon, if not already. Would i use Eric again and recommend him? You betcha.

Let me start by saying that I never-ever give businesses bad reviews, especially small businesses. But I felt compelled to give Mr. Sawdust an "F" to give a balanced view to the many rave reviews herein. Things started good enough, I called Eric based on the positive reviews here on Angie's List, and he seemed really friendly, responsive, knowledgeable and professional. Eric described the way he ran his business and I really liked the idea of getting customized service and supporting a small business. Clearly one would not be getting a "cookie cutter" cabinet, and he would be using his expert craftsmanship. All of this really appealed to me and my wife so we decided to schedule an appointment for Eric to come by our place and give us a free estimate. Sounds like a good start, right? Well it was--so much so that we mistakenly cancelled all other appointments with other cabinet companies because Eric impressed us over the phone so much. As far as we were concerned, we had found our cabinet maker. Then Eric actually came to our place and things changed dramatically.... Eric was clearly very knowledgeable; no doubt, if you were trying to find a Professor of Fine Cabinet Making for a prestigious University he is definitely your man. He will dazzle you with his explanation of the physics, geometry, and intricacies of cabinet making. However, if you just have a simple job and want it done well, Eric will probably not be interested in the job. He must have mentioned at least three times that he works on 10 million dollar homes, which our place is definitely not. He also got oddly touchy about three different times for comments that were completely innocent. Maybe he was just offended that we didn't call him out for a more complex job. I'm sure his cabinets are amazing but I also put a premium on good customer service, which we definitely did not receive.
Description of Work: Eric came by to take measurements several months ago (I believe in March or April); at that time, he promised to send us a quote and even alluded to making sketches of the proposed cabinet work. Then he never got back to us. Period. Sorry, I can't speak to the quality of his installation work and cabinet-making ability because he blew us off. I guess he just didn't think our project was big enough to justify a call back. I think he should have at least contacted us to let us know that he wouldn't be taking on our project. The part that is especially disappointing about this is that we wanted to have all of our interior work and cabinet installations done before our baby was born, AND WE TOLD ERIC, and he still didn't have the professionalism to let us know he wouldn't be sending us a quote, sketches, or taking on the job. Our baby was born two weeks ago and we still haven't heard back from Eric.

Eric was always prompt in returning phone calls and on time for appointments. At our original meeting I described what I wanted our finished tv cabinet to look like. We batted around ideas, dimensions & materials, etc. Next time I spoke to Eric he had worked out all the tricky bits inherent in such a design specific cabinet and presented drawings, a schedule & a reasonable budget. He worked closely with another contractor we were using who was creating shoji screen doors for the cabinet. At every step of the process Eric kept me well informed of his progress and finished the cabinet on time. Installation went smoothly even with our audio crew working around him. What a knockout our beautiful custom cabinet is. It could grace any design magazine cover. Eric does wonderful work. I highly recommend him.

RAVE! RAVE! RAVE! When you make a major investment in something like kitchen cabinets, that you will live with for a long time, you hope (but rarely find) guys like Eric and Eli. Smart, skilled and perfectionist. They are simply not able to cut corners or do anything but the best work. Their painter, Art, was an artist as well. Our kitchen was a challenging space and I am a big pain in the a** - wanting it the way I want it. These guys could not have been better. Also, great guys!

Perfectly! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The price was very reasonable for the time and materials involved. The work is beautiful, was completed in a very timely manner, and I get compliments on what looks like a much more costly kitchen than it really is. My plumber, who is very detail oriented, expressed his amazement at how precisely the sink cutout was done, making the finish plumbing much easier for him. I plan to hire Eric again to design, build and install a tricky over-the-fireplace large plasma TV cabinet in the next few months. I would trust him with any custom cabinetry. He's also very professional, clean (he was personally tidy as well as cleaning up thoroughly after his work), and just generally the kind of craftsman that I like to find and keep in the virtual Rolodex for years and years.
Description of Work: I needed a custom maple counter top made for a kitchen. It was somewhat tricky because of the configuration of the cabinets. He purchased materials as well as preparing and installing the counter top.

It was perfect. Met Eric to go over the job, after he'd given a good bid. He said he'd produce drawing for our approval, and did quickly. We needed the work in a short time, and he made in happen. The vanities are just what we ordered, better even, b/c Eric upgraded the drawer material on his own....very conscientious guy.
Description of Work: Created two custom bathroom vanities...we gave him pictures of the style, and the finish wood we wanted....he did the rest.

The interaction was fine. He seemed like he knew what he was doing and talking about. I won't be using him because I found someone closer by.
Description of Work: Mr. Sawdust Custom Cabinetry gave me an estimate.
