To Whom It May Concern: It has now been well over three years and our kitchen remodel has never been completed. We have not been contacted in over 2 years regarding the completion. This remodel has been LESS than satisfactory. Listed below are our grievances: 8/31/15 - We discussed with the salesman, Ron, what we wanted in the kitchen and the price we could afford. He eventually agreed and we asked if he needed to see the electrical box or anything else. He did not. 9/3/15 – After the kitchen had been demolished and $5500.00 had been collected from us, Ron finally looked in the electrical panel box and decided an additional $6250.00 would be needed to upgrade the panel, install LED lights, which he had told us weren’t necessary, and to put copper pipes under the sink (which already had copper pipes). He refused to continue the work without an immediate payment of an additional $5000.00. 9/4/15 We arrived home on that Friday night to find chicken bones on the floor of our demolished kitchen and empty beer bottles in addition to garbage, paint, plaster, tools and more chicken bones scattered all over our driveway and backyard. (Pictures enclosed-#1) We called the company and were told they would come out the next day to clean it up and haul away the trash. Instead, they moved the trash to the side of the driveway, leaned it against our new redwood fence, and it remained there for 4 weeks. (see enclosed picture #2) - The choice of cabinets had to be done by text because THND had nothing to show us. They were then put in without approval and they were, in many cases, either wrong or missing. - A cabinet was place directly touching the stove, a fire hazard. It would not have been corrected had the “city inspector” not pointed it out. (see enclosed picture #3). - The awful molding at the top of the cupboards, which in many cases doesn’t fit, was not a choice, it just showed up. And it started separating from the ceiling 3 months into the remodel, and had to be re-caulked. - The painting was done by a very inexperienced painter who didn’t even have a ladder. He stood on two paint buckets to paint near the ceiling. - THND must not own any ladders or buckets because the men used ours, covering them with stucco and paint, and ruining a large bucket. - The light fixtures were completely closed BEFORE the inspector came. He was NOT pleased. Everything had to be opened up again for inspection. - Rather than move electrical outlets, notches were cut into the backsplash to accommodate plugs – a very shoddy and amateurish job. (see enclosed picture #4) - An outlet was placed under the sink next to a leaking pipe. Again, the inspector saw it and saved us from possible disaster. - After the installation of the $5250.00 new electrical box, our brand new stucco was repaired so fast and poorly that it didn’t begin to match the surrounding stucco in texture or color. We had to wait TWO MONTHS for a correction and a big mess was left on the steps and cement underneath. - During a heavy rainfall, a leak in the bathroom ceiling, right next to the newly installed venting fan/light exposed an uncovered electrical box with loose wires floating around. Alarmed at the shoddy work and danger of exposed, un-grounded wires, we called our own electrician to come and check the work done by your company. 2/24/16 – Our electrician opened the ceiling in the bathroom to look over the situation. He said it is illegal to hide a box in the ceiling as had been done. Plus, it hadn’t been grounded and the box had to be extended to bring it down to ceiling level. Since he had worked at this house in the past, he knew that the LED lights in the kitchen were new so he went up into the attic to see what else was going on electrically. He said there were two other boxes that had been covered up and weren’t grounded – one in the main kitchen and one in the laundry area. Since nothing had been grounded so far he decided to check the new plug by the stove and found the ground wires cut off and thus not connected. He had to take out the box, extend the wires and reconnect the whole thing. Along the way he noticed that the new electrical box outside had loose wires, disconnected wires and mislabeled circuits. As he was working on the plug by the stove he noticed that it was on the same circuit as the stove and the microwave – all labeled dishwasher. He said if we tried to run a toaster oven when the microwave was going we would blow the circuit. I’d be interested to know what the “dedicated” lines to the kitchen actually are. We paid an extra $4000.00 for them. We now had several holes in the ceiling that need to be re-plastered. The electrician said that if it had been done properly the boxes that were covered up would, instead, have been turned around and opened UP to the attic instead of burying them. As it is now, the boxes on the ceiling, even with decorative covers, are ugly and amateurish. 3/15/16 and 3/18/16 – your electricians returned to finish and check remaining work. Holes remained open in the ceiling of the kitchen, washer/dryer area and bathroom. An appointment to fix them was made and cancelled and then we never heard anything from THND again. 1/31/17 – A continuing leak in the bathroom ceiling, caused by the vent put into our new roof by THND, had to be repaired by our roof people. We paid for this. (see enclosed picture #5) 2/2017 – We had the holes in our kitchen, washer/dryer and bathroom ceilings repaired and painted. We paid for this. To say that we were disappointed with THND would be a gross understatement. We saved a very long time in order to be able to afford a kitchen remodel. We expected to be working with professionals but most of the work was at best, amateurish, and at worst, dangerously negligent.

We are hiring someone to “finish” our kitchen and putting the outstanding monies toward that repair, and we are calling this experience over. PLEASE, Before you sign a contract with The House next door you MUST be willing to accept the following 10 items that should make you think long and hard about what you are in for: 1. If you have an issue- You will never see or hear from the owner. 2. You will be given a subcontractor. (Who say's they have years of experience but they knew less than I did) 3. If you do not understand construction they will take shortcuts and not explain things like floating a floor to ensure all finished carpentry will be level with the floor. They say it is not their responsibility to inform you. They only do what is on the contract. 4. If you are doing a remodel that requires blue prints or measurements, be prepared to do them yourself as they don't know how to plan for built ins etc. It was evident when they built a faux fireplace and didn't have the cabinet measurements or having even purchased them yet. 5. If you are looking for them to find any fireplace hearthstones, they don't know what they are and be prepared to find them yourself. 6. You should never accept a bundle price estimate. Insist on details of labor and materials for all aspects of the job. If you don't they will continue to nickel and dime you and all additional tasks increase the job by about 10,000 each time. 7. If they put in writing the job will take 2-3 weeks be ready to wait 3-4 months. Scheduling and delays are 100% guaranteed even if your asking for things to be fixed if they went wrong. 8. Contacting a manager or someone who seems to want to make it right is extremely difficult. They all say "That is not how we do business" and when push comes to shove the guy they send to clean up the other guys mess leaves you waiting and doesn't communicate. Trying to get past that was impossible. 9. Be willing to have a mess with splattered paint on patios and exterior setup locations being a mess for months. 10. Lastly, be willing to accept sub par work where you will have to finish the job yourself or pay for another company to redo the work that they can't seem to get right. Molding cuts are very jagged and painting ceilings and walls are sloppy and look like they were done by a 10 year old. If after this post the company comes back and says any differently do one thing and you will see for your self. Drive to the location on all the printed materials and you will be pleasantly surprised that it is only a mailbox company. They hide and you should ask yourself why. Should you still want to engage with the House Next Door I say do more research on them. Go to the CA contractors board lic and the better business bureau site's and review for any lawsuits or claims. They are out there. The best part of working with this company was the day I fired them after 4 months of stress and misery in trying to get them to finish the job and do it right. Consider yourself warned!

When they came out to do the estimate they told me that they would have to take down a wall and put in new windows to accommodate the tub. They also said they'd have to seal the bathroom for three weeks an we wouldn't be able to use it. Their quote included installing indirect lighting and a new vanity all for $90,000. I told him that I was not interested in a bathroom remodel, just wanted the tub replaced. He then quote me about $18,000 but said they would still need to take out a wall and block off the bathroom for 3 weeks. They had me sign a preliminary agreement and pay a down payment. After speaking with another company who said they could do the installation without taking down a wall, we cancelled our plans with House Next Door. They showed up at my house one Sunday morning with breakfast and a chocolate sponge cake asking me to reconsider and allow them to beat the price the other company quoted. It was well intended, but it made me uncomfortable.
Description of Work: I had contacted them to get a quote to install a walk-in bathtub.

I hired house next door about 2 months ago to paint the outside of my home, and I have to say it looks brand new. Igor was my project manager, and he was always respectful and honest from day 1. They stayed on schedule, were always on time, and the house was painted and cleared off within 4 says (a day sooner than we expected). They are now my go to contractors! 10/10

It went quickly and efficiently. The roofer knew exactly what I needed, came out, did the job cheerfully and neatly. He was finished within two hours, cleaned up, and was gone. I am extremely satisfied with it! I had had a terrible experience with another roofing company that didn't even address the real problem. I highly recommend House Next Door for any roofing needs!

I hired the house next door to complete an open patio. I am very happy with the results! I already had pavers laid out and they were able to add the footings and put the pavers back very well! They worked with me to get the exact design and colors I wanted. There were some miscommunications but this company really values their customers and strives to make sure you are 100% happy with their work.

I'm a Disabled Veteran who spent 8 years serving this nation with that being said let's go straight to the point. I want to warn every homeowner and my fellow brothers and sisters in arms of this "company" The house next door. My husband received a knock from a scammer and we will call it a scammer because that's what It is a scam. This person told my husband about a discount for veterans a 35% discount and a free quote. They send the most ignorant of all employees "Johnny" his American name. Johnny spoke for hours literally hours. he asked my husband about life and his childhood, as I was cooking my family dinner I saw the red flags but I didn't follow my instinct. Finally, he showed me yelp reviews and good reviews from The BBB (Business Review) with an A- review. Please pay close attention to all the 24 bad reviews. Those 24 reviews speak louder than the good reviews. My husband agreed to do our floors we wanted vinyl, next thing you know another idiot by the name of "Shia" came to our house with more alarming news our foundation was bad oh dear! Well he said I'll do foundation reinforcement for $10,000 my husband said why not $9,000 and give us the "35%" discount that was promised. That's where all started to go bad. I live in the city of south gate where the rules are very strict. you can't start work without the proper permits and plans. My husband had a bad feeling about the permits and discount since our "35%" wasn't a 35% it was more like a 14.5%. We also found out that the work that they were doing wasn't foundation reinforcement it was more like earthquake retrofit. Two different things. Google, foundation reinforcement and earthquake retrofit two different things, two different purposes. my husband and I went to the city to ask about permits and plans since you need them to do any work. I wasn't surprise they never took out the proper paper work. The house next door company sent to my house a working crew that was not allowed to speak to us. Of course, they didn't follow the rules. they told us that the company wasn't planning on doing the reinforcement with peers and metal plates. They were going to do the opposite, which was work that wasn't in the contract and work that was not needed. I then tried to contact them I went thru several people of course all of a sudden "johnny" was out of state. This company preys on homeowners. Don't get fooled by the good reviews and all the fake testimonials. They have two different address one in North Hollywood 4821 Lankershim Blvd #F214 and one in Laguna hills 23011 Moulton parkway google both and see what you find. Let me tell you what I found Nonexistent addresses. I was in both address and I found no trace of this company. Do yourself a favor and google their address in front of them or call customer service and ask for their address.I guarantee that they won't give you an address. The 3day notice that comes in the packet says that you have to write a written cancellation notice and send it to those 2 addresses. How can people like myself cancel with imaginary addresses? I tried calling this company and even set up a date to speak to them. until this day no one has come to my house. They stole $547 dollars and have a check for $2,000. The workers this company sends to your house are mostly illegal and without a contract license. These workers broke a water pipe and they refused to fix it. I'm not surprise. I was left with work that was not needed work that I will have to finish. fees that I will have to pay. I'm a 100% percent sure someone is going to answer back on this website with the "I'm sorry excuse we will get in contact with you" bunch of lies and deceiving promises. This company does not offer discounts to vets. they don't work with integrity. they will not do a great job because they lack the ethics to do such job. They are a scam! from one veteran of this nation to another and to all of you homeowners ask a simple question where is your office located? Then in front of them google their address. you will see a Petco. Ask the salesmen for his HIS License or ask the workers if they could show you their license to do work as contractor. The warranty for life is another lie. Read the fine print it provides nothing that makes them accountable after they leave your home. Read all the bad reviews that to me speaks louder than the good reviews. I'm a veteran of this great nation I'm not here to lie.I would also tell you that we wish not to do business with you. since the lovely Asian lady that actually works in your so called business address knew nothing of you or your company take this to be a cancellation notice since both of the address are imaginary I didn't know where to leave my 3 day cancellation notice. I'm pretty sure you guys have a new imaginary address where I could send my notice. good day

We met Danielle and Boyana, the most friendly wonderful young ladies. Danielle has been with us supervising all the way from beginning to end. The company has done great work and made sure we were satisfied. All the workers have been kind, respectful, and professional. And the field supervisor Lil David has been so helpful. Everyone we have came across from this company has been so friendly and helpful. We are getting our first rain today and so happy we got our new roof..

Looked else where for a more reputable contractor.
Description of Work: Simply wanted a quote for stucco repair/patch work. Upon arrival a different guy showed up and started critiquing facia boards that were installed and a new electrical panel that we just installed and the city approved the work done by a different contractor. The estimator started asking questiond unrelated to the job (where I worked, how am I going to pay for the work, am I married, what do I do for work). He wanted to bust a hole in the east facing wall to confirm there was or wasn't insulation as I may think about doing insulation prior to stucco. He then proceed to take measurements of the house and provided a quote of $4200 for ~900 square feet of blown in insulation. I wasn't looking for an insulation quote however a stucco quote. He would not provide unless I signed a contact with him on the insulation then we could talk stucco. Complete waste of my time, later the guy said we would not work well together and suggested I pick up some guys along the curb at Home Depot. Use extreme caution prior to doing business with them.

The house next door did a great job on our house. We got a new deck and railing made out of redwood, the staff was very professional and responsive. It was the best bid and everyone was very patient with my demands. The deck looks amazing. A dream come true. Joe the project manager was very helpful with his insights.

These people call and talk my Gma into coming out for an estimate. They come out and spend at least an hour talking about your family, your business, your kids and on and on. Any redirecting to an estimate leads to "well if you're flexible about time, we have a crew working ion the area and we can get you a good price...". We have seen them at least 4 times, always the same conversation, always the same mode. When pressed for a written estimate, they call in and get your social security number to "see if you qualify". One time they came, we were just sitting down for dinner. I tried to tell the rep that, he kept talking. Gma asked him to please just estimate the driveway and we'll get back to him. I said, "we've already heard from your company,(literally days before) please go." he refused to leave, instead he kept asking Gma about her job, her family, what she was having for dinner. Again, I asked him to just leave an estimate. I was trying not to be rude but he wouldn't leave. He even tried to come in the house! It was AWFUL!!! We still got calls from this company days later. They change their name just a little bit, but the way is all the same. After a review on Google, they showed up and offered me a $40 gift card if I would remove the negative review. I agreed finally after he apologized and said he was trying to make it right. I declined the gift card but he insisted so I took it. Turns out it was worth $20 with a $5 charge to use it...
