I met Jose and showed him the scope of work. He was to install wood flooring I had already purchased. The concrete in the kitchen needed to be sanded down which he noted and all the concrete needed to be sealed. We agreed to the price which was $1.50/sf plus I would pay for materials. Jose and his father Jose completed the floors in the hall, bathroom, office and family and was going to come back when the kitchen and dining room were ready. As he had done a good job thus far I left him a check for the portion of the work they were going to be completing that day. I received a call later that day from Jose where he told me he had accidentally broken my window. The window had just been installed and cost $680 to replace. Jose asked if he could complete the rest of the job and apply that towards the cost of the window- which I agreed to. That is where it went bad. Since then Jose will not answer my calls. He then sent me a text message that he now wanted $200 more to do the sanding of the concrete floor although it was already included in the original quote. He finally answered my call when I used a different phone number he didn't recognize and on the phone he agreed to complete the job at the original price. However he did not show up to complete the work at the time agreed to. He still wouldn't answer my calls but twice I got him on the phone again by using different phone numbers- both times he said he would come to do the work and both times he did not show up. At this point I don't care if he finishes the job but he needs to pay for my window which he is obviously not going to do. I have left him a message saying I was going to call the police and take him to small claims court. A small side note on the work he actually did- the install was generally ok except that the reducers he put around the flooring areas are peeling up from the floor and need to be replaced. There are also some sloppy gaps and odd details that need to be remedied.
Description of Work: Installation of engineered wood flooring glued down over concrete.

The positives were that they were punctual and thorough to begin with. And their materials was great and cost way better than anyone else. I had seem some samples of their work on their website so I was very impressed. BUT they needed a tremendous amount of hand holding. The detail of the job lacked greatly. The clean up was less than mediocre. There were piles of wood left everywhere and dust in all the closets where they were meant to vacuum. Some of the stairs that they installed had to be re-sanded because the wood didn't come together properly. And the finish on the floors is not at all smooth. I had asked them to use Bona and they advised that they have experience but I don't think they did. It just seemed that they were always in a hurry. Also, the shoe board that they installed was installed very poorly. They didn't do the caulking until I asked them to do it. This is what you get when you go with the lowest bid!
Description of Work: We refinished 1100 sq ft of existing hardwood flooring and installed 400 sq ft of new flooring in one bedroom, the loft area and stairs.

Jose was great from start to finish. He gave me an accurate estimate and even helped me get the wood and other materials at a discounted price, which otherwise I would have not been able to afford. Since the day he started, he finished the job in 4 days. My new floors are beautiful. Couldn't be happier with the result. I had several other bids on the job and his was the best price, I found.
Description of Work: Engineered hardwood installation in my living, dining and family room. Also installed in the upstairs hallway and on 17 steps of my staircase. Included moisture barrier and carpet removal. The price I posted was for the labor only, does not include materials.
