The chair when I saw it was acceptable and I expressed gratitude for Avi's work. However, when I got home I realized that the weaving pattern is not the same as the original. It is missing a 3-inch line in the center that connect the four quarters. Rather the quarters join at a point. My best advice would be to go where my mother went and paid $150, though there was no wood repair required though oiling and finishing were offered, at A Wicker Workshop. For wicker work, go there.

From the first time I spoke with Avi, he was friendly, helpful and professional. He suggested that I bring the bench to his workshop, so that I would not incur the extra cost of pick-up and delivery. He had asked me to text him a picture of the bench, so he knew it would easily fit in my car. My husband and I brought a small side table as a sample of the color stain we wanted for the bench. He asked us not to leave the side table with him for fear of it being damaged in his workspace. We discussed the color and agreed upon a time frame, which was very reasonable for the work requested. Avi called when the bench was ready to be picked up and we were excited to see the final product. When we arrived, Avi brought out the bench, and we were not all that happy with what we saw. In his effort to retain the look of the grain in the wood, he had made the color rather light, compared to the color we had tried to convey. We told him we were rather disappointed, and without hesitation, he told us to leave the bench, and without any extra cost to us, he would refinish the wood in the darker color we had requested. He was a man of honor, and true to his word we picked up the bench a short time later, happy to see the work done beautifully and exactly to our liking. We would definitely use Avi for any future furniture jobs we might have. He is a man to be trusted and is totally dedicated to serving his customers and making them happy.

Went very well, the price was a little shocking,but understand that if you want quality work no price is to much for something you want to cherish and be able to pass down to your children. Overall was good quality work and Avi was very polite and professional.

The work was excellent. It was very well done. We repeatedly told them about the time limits, but the work was done a bit late. But the work was of very high quality. We were very pleased.

We did not use him and do not recommend him as he overprices his services and shows up late..

The communication just wasn?t there, so I requested a refund.

I called them to schedule an appointment and was informed that I was out of their service area.

I reviewed Avi's work on, first, a ladder-back chair in early November, then had him proceed with the matching chest of drawers. He took a good amount of time (over 6 weeks), but I told him I was in no rush. When he delivered the piece, I was impressed. He had done a thorough restoration including the inside of the drawers. It looks wonderful and functions well. There was just a very small portion of the finish at the bottom of the front that will possibly need some light sanding with very fine paper as I believe it may simply have been inadvertently touched prior to completely drying. But it's not noticeable unless one runs their hand over it. There are a couple other very minor imperfections, but only if one examines the finish very carefully as they are not easy to see. One drawer does not completely close, but it never did. Had he repaired that, it would have been nicer. Overall, very good.

Our experience was good. It was a little expensive though, but it was good. We were happy with it. It is just a little pricey. I would use them again actually but probably negotiate the price down. I tried to, but he would not budge. It was probably $800 high, but it was okay. We were still happy with the product though.

I picked up the chair today, and the work was amazing. I can not even see where the wood had split. I would recommend this business to anyone who needed wood repaired.

They were both scratched and worn when I sent them to be refinished. I asked him to sand and stain them back to their rich walnut. He has no concept of fine mid-century furniture. They are now an orange-blond. I am sick. As far as I am concerned they are ruined. I hope I can go back to the vendor where I bought my pieces. I will have to pay again to to have them redone as they should be. I have only myself to blame for hiring him in the first place. I understand that you have no personal knowledge about your providers of your Big Deals,or whatever you call them, and rely on reviews from others. You should take a look at his reviews on other web sites! As a result of this very costly and very unsatisfactory experience I have had with Angie's List, this will have been my first and last of my dealings with your website. Edit: He swindled me out of a lot of money.

After speaking with the company a few times, they came to the conclusion that they wouldn't be able to help with the job I needed done.

He asked to see a picture of the damage. I sent the picture. He quoted me a price far out of my budgetary restraints. He also tried to get me involved in some Quixotic scheme involving publishing a book. I declined.

I purchased a "big deal" through Angie's for $99. After some back-and-forth communications on a couple furniture pieces that needed attention, I decided to first go with one chair for $300 retail (but w/ $200 work for $99 on the big deal + $100 cash). I dropped it off on Oct 24 (was amazed at all the various artistic, creative things in his shop) then was told it would be a couple of weeks to complete the chair. Avi called on Nov 6 that it was complete, and I picked it up the following day. Avi did good work matching the wood piece, gluing unstable joints, making the chair look nice without diminishing the older-quality original finish. Just a very, very slight color/finish differential on the new piece of wood, but barely notable. It didn't appear as though the chair was completely stripped and refinished. Not an expensive chair, though, and I intend to have him proceed with a matching chest of draws/secretary very soon. Overall, it looks good. A solid job for the "big deal" price.

The work that I needed done according to the estimate far exceeded the cost of the table and chair set that I needed refinished. At the time of purchase I had no idea what the cost was going to be and I didn't want to pass up a good deal. Avi at Excalibur was nice enough to go over all the details of what was needed but I cant afford to put that much money into it. Thanks.

Avi asked me to forward photo of table I wanted to have refinished. I did and he gave me a quote to repair table plus delivery charges. I'm sure his work is excellent. I just don't want to pay what he is asking. So I'm asking for a refund of coupon I bought. Thanks

I have a vintage 1960's Hammond B3 Organ. The bench that goes with the organ was broken in shipping (and by broken, I mean the side of the bench & one leg were shattered, the cross pieces were knocked off and broken into pieces.) I was getting ready to resort to buying a reproduction bench or scouring ebay for a vintage bench that resembled the original when I found Avi at Excalibur Restorations. He was friendly on the phone and when I described the bench, he said "no problem, bring it in!" Upon consulting with Avi, who told me he could repair and completely restore the bench, I was a little concerned that it might look "too nice." I wanted the bench to be fixed & look nice, but to keep it's character, with the wear & tear of the years showing - just like the organ it goes with. Avi assured me he understood and would respect that. He did the repair in less than a week, and I couldn't be happier! the restoration is amazing. It's impossible to tell that half of the bench was shattered. In addition to the repairs, he stripped years of different layers of stain off, and re-stained it to what the original shade would have been. He sanded the bench down enough to make it look finished, but you can see some dings here and there that still show it's character & age. He also reinforced the seat of the bench which was wearing thin on the bottom (I hadn't even noticed) It's a beautiful restoration and the bench will last for years. I highly recommend his work. He's not cheap, but I also don't think his fee was unreasonable for the craftsmanship and quality of work he does - and the promptness in which he does it in. You get what you pay for and I felt Avi's work was definitely worth it. (also it would have cost me the same or more to buy a reproduction bench, and why would I want to do that when I basically have a new and improved, original bench?!!)

He just does all of the stuff that nobody does anymore, and he will do repairs in your home without taking the stuff out of your house. Plus, he has a big facility and he even will design and build kitchens and bathrooms. He does the whole thing so I was amazed. It's really hard to find somebody who does all of that. From what I understand, he restored the original, the number 1 Oscar, which wasn't made out of a metal. It was in really bad shape and he restored it close to its original condition. That's amazing. He got here the time he said he was going to get here and he's a very good, interesting man. He's a European craftsman, and they are very rare, those who can do that kind of handwork. He is glad to explain everything, and he has a very good website.
