Carlos provided a quote and start date, and within a few weeks created and installed a bathroom that is the envy of my friends and family. His crew - some of whom are family members - are always courteous, polite, professional, and so thoughtful when working in our home. They always cleaned up after the completion of each job, better than if I hired a professional cleaning crew. If I had a question or concern during the process, Carlos would immediately reply back most times within a few minutes. I am not aware of ANY company owner who devotes so much time, and personally cares about his clients and the outcome of the project. He even knew other trades to refer - all of whom were excellent, and which he personally vetted and vouched for - to complete the project which looks as if created by a high-end designer.
There are many choices for tile work, countertops, shower install, and anything that would involve a bathroom or kitchen remodel, but only one choice if you want it done right the first time, for it to be quality work by someone who will stay in touch long after the job is completed. The ONLY choice is Carlos and C-Bek Tile and Stone Design!
After the tile repair was completed, Edwin started the refinish work. His worker was on time every day and refinished and re-grouted the shower in four days. Edwin had helpful suggestions on marble finish and we found that following his suggestions resulted in a great job. For the trim pieces, we didn't follow Edwin's initial suggestion. That was a mistake on our part. We later saw that we should have followed that advice and asked to change the finish. The only thing he and Carlos said about it was, "No problem."
We were very happy with the cost as well as the work. It was a fair price for very good work. Carlos and Edwin take personal pride in their work and producing a high quality result. Carlos and Edwin are gentlemen who stand behind their work. We look forward to having them back to do more as we continue to work on the house.
We first used Carlos to help renovate two of our bathrooms, re-tiling the floors, one shower unit and a bath/shower. After he did such good work on the bathrooms, we got him back to do our kitchen. Carlos' guys did all the tile and countertop work for the kitchen - flooring, backsplash and quartzite countertops. The finished product looks amazing.
My project was the laying of 400 square feet of tile over a quite uneven floor-- he came to my home promptly and knew exactly how to handle every tricky situation. I chose the best tile and grouting from his store and his workers completed the job promptly.
Here's where it gets interesting; when Carlos returned to check the job (it was perfect) by my good fortune, two new kitchen appliances were being delivered-- but the appliance installers didn't know how to do the job.
Without me even asking, Carlos said he would take care of it.
He left and returned promptly with plumbing, electrical, flooring and other supplies. He installed the fridge ice maker; he removed the old dishwasher which required the use of a blowtorch, the removal and replacement of counter and floor tile, installation of new electrical and plumbing interfaces, and a new underfloor for the dishwasher.
He told me to have the appliance installers call him if they were confused as to how to complete the final hookup. When the installers returned the next day, they did call him and he did explain how to complete the job.
If all this wasn't enough, I told him I would like to have the tiled area painted. He said he would do it. He chose the paint (a perfect match for the tile)-- he wasn't satisfied with a single coat and launched into a second coat.
I expected that all the extra work would cost me many thousands of dollars extra (it certainly would have been worth it). Carlos simply asked me for the price of the paint (a quite nominal amount).
I have been in my home for 37 years and have seen many contractors come and go (and some have been good) but Carlos of C-Bek is the best. He is a prince, super competent and smart, efficient and effective, and very decent.
Dear fellow Angie's List members, you may think because of this good review that Carlos and I are related. We're not! He's-just-that-good.
I employed C-Bek Tile from Angie?s List to install a new shower pan in 2013.
Installing a new shower pan is an expensive project.
The entire cost of the project was $5200
A properly installed shower pan should last 20 to 30 years.
The new shower pan started leaking in 2015.
Carlos Martinez, owner of C-Bek came to my home inspected and admitted
the shower pan is leaking and should not be leaking. We plugged the
drain and poured water from a plastic bucket on to the shower floor
to prove that drain is working properly, the shower valves are
working properly. The only problem is that the shower pan is
defective. There are no cracked tiles, no evidence of further work
done in the area. Carlos and his HOT Mop subcontractor admitted that
their work is defective.
Both my plumber and the Hot Mop professional that C-Bek subcontracted to
do the work have inspected the leak. Both have said the entire job
has to be redone. Repairs of a Hot Mop job are not guaranteed.
The entire job has to be redone.
I am seeking restitution from Carlos Martinez owner of C-Bek Tile.
After I communicated to Carlos Martinez that I was seeking restitution,
Carlos said his Hot Mop subcontractor, APA, provided him with a one
year warranty on his work. If Carlos did knowingly subcontract
with a company that only provided him a one year warranty, that is
Carlos' problem not mine. Carlos is responsible for the work of his
employees and his subcontractors, I am not.
Also, after I communicated to Carlos that I was seeking restitution, Carlos'
misrepresented the truth by saying there is evidence that a pipe was
moved after he completed his work, which is total nonsense. The only
pipe associated with the shower pan is the shower drain. To move
the drain you would have to first dig up the tile and hot mop
surrounding the drain and then cut up and reconstruct the sub floor.
Carlos' claim is ludicrous and his misrepresentation would be
apparent to any Plumber or Hot Mop Professional.
I need your help to persuade Carlos, to do the right thing, to take
responsibility for his defective workmanship, to provide me with the
funds to do the job again.
Thank You
Christine

"In July 2013, we were called to provide a service for Ms. [Member Name Removed]. We removed 10 inches around the shower wall, and the entire floor tile. We called APA Hot Mop, a licensed and certified shower pan company, whom we have been using for the last 25 years. The shower pan was installed and tested for leaks. Everything was fine once the job was completed. We recently received a call back from Ms. [Member Name Removed] regarding the shower pan. C-BEK and APA Hot Mop company stopped by to check the situation. The shower pan was in perfect condition, but it was extremely noticeable, that someone had probably hit or moved the P-trap because the seal was broken. There is only a few ways to break the seal. In this case, it appears that someone tried to clear the lines and used the shower drain as a clean up, which consequently put a lot of pressure on the P-Trap when they used the snake. We have ran through a few occasions where people have done this in the past. Our inspection indicates that this is what occurred because the straps were loose and the seal was broken. Despite the fact that the warranty had expired and that we were not at fault, we still offered to take care of this matter for her. But we never heard back from her. The cost for this repair would amount to $2,000. We feel bad that this happened to our previous client, but again C-BEK was at no fault. Here at C-BEK we always strive to provide the best costumer service to all of our clients. It is our utmost priority to provide our clients with the satisfaction they deserve."
The tile we chose was hard to hang, but the guys worked hard to make it look great.
Because of my past several years' experience with Angie's list, I decided to act as my own contractor for a galley kitchen remodel. The project involved demolishing an existing Spanish tile countertop and backsplash, installing a new countertop, sink and stovetop and tiling a new backsplash. I decided the trades we would need were plumbing, electrical, wall & plaster, countertop & tile. We could have combined countertop and tile, but ultimately split it to two vendors. I gave myself a week to turn the entire project, from unhooking the plumbing to being ready to cook in the new kitchen.
I'll start this and the other vendor reviews for this project by saying that the overall experience was great. The project delivered on time, on budget, and with the help and support of the vendors and my wife/project creative - with awesome
results.
Of course it was filled with problems, as any multi-vendor, complex, sequenced project is... but armed with the Angie's List member community's excellent guidance and shared experience, I was confident in my vendor selection and that they would perform - because the community is watching. That is SO awesome!!!
I've owned a home for 40 years and am thrilled that today - with Angie's list - it is possible to do projects like ours (mid size, medium complexity) without paying an extra 30%-50% to a middleman. A note to the contractors... you can bring a lot to the table on larger scale endeavors, but, like doing your taxes, using technology and the internet, the small to medium size project is now firmly in the hands of anyone who is willing to be smart, diligent and patient.
C-Beck - Wall prep, install new backsplash, supply tile
Carlos came for a quick estimate the day I contacted him. This was prior to the demolition and so he provided a general estimate with a contingency based on what we would find after the demo.
He could have done the countertop also, but when going through the vendors on Angie's, I decided to split this to two specialists. My wife and creative director for the project was very concerned about the tile for the backsplash and how it would work with our Caesar Stone counter top. She did a lot of shopping, but when Carlos came back for the detail estimate (with the wall now open and exposed), he let me know that he also owned a tile supply company called Silver Stone & Tile, which his wife runs. So they all met at the shop and worked through the final selection the night before the install. My wife was VERY happy with the support, direction, and suggestions she got - and is very happy with the results, which matched the advice.
Carlo's team arrived the morning of the install, put down the paper and plastic to protect the newly installed counter top, sink and our hardwood kitchen floor then went to work repairing the back wall, prepping for tile and putting in the backsplash.
Tile is part art and craft. There are dozens of detail decisions to make in terms of how rows start and end, where and how end-pieces are used, what is center etc... Carlo's team was knowledgeable and had pride in doing the job right. What more could you ask? A good cleanup. And they did.
Near the end of the day, Carlos came by to tweak things into place, make sure I was satisfied and... Pick up the check, of course.
Bottom Line
They delivered a well advised, good, clean professional job. The boss was good, They boss' wife was good. The install team was good. The job and experience were good.
The price was fair, and I had some timing requirements that related to the other trades I needed to schedule. Carlos worked hard at matching into our schedule.
It is easy for me to recommend C-Beck Tile and Stone Design, Inc.
First, I will describe the state of my bathrooms prior to the remodel. All the floor tiles had been removed from both bathrooms in order to excavate and replace cracked drainage plumbing running from the showers, bathtub, sinks, and toilets. New concrete was already poured into the excavations, but only one bathroom floor was fully prepped for relaying new tile. Both bathrooms had walls partially removed to repair damage from leaking plumbing. All the tiles had been removed from my stand up shower stall.
Here is everything C-Bek did in the process of remodeling my bathrooms. The partially prepped floors were made ready for tiling. I had a new tub installed in one bathroom. All new floor tiles installed. All walls were repaired. All new tiling was installed for the shower and bath. New toilets and vanities installed. C-Bek adjusted the piping on the shower to fix problems he identified. C-bek installed the shower door for the bathtub. The shower needed a custom door, and C-Bek referred me a company that handled this job. The bathrooms were all repainted as well.
C-Bek also, re-tiled my front porch while on this bathroom job, since the stonework on the porch was crumbling.
This was forced remodel for me in a sense because of the plumbing issues, but once completed my bathrooms are better than they ever were. I am completely happy with the work done. I plan to use C-Bek again on future tile projects and would surely recommend them to anyone needing remodel or tile work.
